I have just been skimming through Ebay and noticed one or two like this eg "mighty mite". While some appear to have the snug, "close" fitting pick up cut out? ikay Posted June 15, 2011 Share Posted June 15, 2011 Pure laziness on the part of the body builder IMHO! These days lot of jazz bodies seem to have the larger rout as it's easier to machine and hidden under the pickguard. Even the new US Standard Jazz has this. One benefit of an extra large rout is that it gives you the option to install a P pickup for a P/J configuration. Shame, that would have explained why they routed such a large opening, so why bother to accurately route the bridge pickup and not the neck. Weird? If it costs an extra $1 to rout to the shape of the PUP (i.e., extra cost in tools or time), and you make 10000 bodies, that's $10,000 extra profit.
