Ampeg PF350 vs GK MB200

Hi everyone!. So, im trying to choose between these 2:

Ampeg PF350 (350 Watts) $299
Buy Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head | Solid State Amp Heads | Musician's Friend

or.. GK MB200 $250
Buy Gallien-Krueger MB200 200W Ultra Light Bass Amp Head | Solid State Amp Heads | Musician's Friend

I would be using one of those with an Ampeg BSE410H cab (4x10, obviously) rated at 8 ohms and 200W.

Im asking this, because i've seen on many threads, saying that the MB200 is in fact more powerful than the PF350 (despite the PF350 has 150 more watts. Even some guys who owned both (they proved with pictures), said the MB200 was very comparable to the PF500 in volume and that the tone is clearer on low notes on the MB200). I've also read that many people had problems with the PF350.

Since im in Mexico, there's no way i can try any of these myself (but i'm sure it's much better than what we have over here), so all i have are youtube videos and your opinions. Since an uncle is going to bring me the amp with him on the plane from the USA, it needs to be REALLY small, like these 2, also my max budget is $300.

So... what do you guys recommend?
PF350 or GK MB200

I would be using the amp with a Tech21 Bass driver. I'm looking for this differente kind of sounds (Links below). I dont know which amp would suit better with my Tech 21 Bass driver, to at least sound a little like these guys, that sounds just beautiful and is what i'm looking for.

Thanks in advance. Saludos

P.S: I play on a covers band, so, sometimes i need a very clean sound for some songs.

Man I've always LOVED that bass tone on Bogeyman! I've gotten close to it using a sansamp when really attacking the strings hard. Personal opinion here, but I'd go for the Ampeg head, they sound really nice! And with the pedal you'd get plenty of delicious Drive too

I`ve no knowledge of the GK amp, but with the PF-350, using an 8 ohm cab you`ll get 250 watts.

I`ve got the PF-500, and use it with an 8 ohm cab, and get 300 watts.

I currently play in a rock band, with 2 gtrs using half-stacks, and a punk band, with 3 gtrs.

My amp never needs to go on more than 3 on the volume, at rehearsals (not gigged it yet).

It does of course also depend on the efficiency rating of the cab, but my 300 watts of Ampeg power are more than enough for my needs.

I was stunned by the MB200 at the LBGS. I spent a couple of days on the GK stand and couldn't stop switching between that and the MB Fusion.

Considering there were probably 20 bassists playing at any one time and I was only using one 8 Ohm cab, it held up incredibly well. I couldn't say it'd definitely manage in a loud band with only one 8 Ohm cab though though with a 4x10 it should be alright depending on the cab.

Don't know about the Ampeg head, I've never used them.
Lozz, would you say your Nemesis cab is more efficient than an Ampeg 4x10?
Yes definately, having used it on its own, with my old TC Classic 450, I used exactly the same settings, inc volume & gain, as when I connceted up my Ampeg SVT 410 & 210 cabs together. Soundwise, it`s not too far away from the Ampeg sound either.

And it`s a lot lighter too :)

Hi, thanks everyone for your replies. I think im going for the MB200, as i've seen that most people say it is much more powerful, and has a more modern sound, and that's what im looking for. I would be using it with a Traben Chaos Attack 4-string bass (18V system), i think they'll get along pretty well.
I would love to see more opinions.

This is the bass i'm going to use it with.

Probably a bit pointless saying this now that "lemming" is going for the MB200, but by dint of being an owner of the PF-350, I have to stick up for it. Love the tone on it & it's certainly loud enough when put though a 4 x 10". If you were referring to the -15db Pad button as a "problem", I'd say it might just be a problem with the active EQ in my Yamaha bass as opposed to the Ampeg's EQ.

I can't really compare it with the MB200 though, as I don't know if any of the music shops 'round Greater Manchester stock them.

Not complaining either way. The Ampeg's is the back up head to my Hartke-which I've not had ANY problems with thus far.

Hope you enjoy your purchase anyway Lemming!
