Ive always been a big Hip Hop fan..maybe not in the later days..but im keepin up.... ive got to be honest i dont like alot of sh*t thats played in the mainstream.. some, is great though.. i have always thought that there is alot of actual music, lacking in Hip Hop, but i guess thats the nature of the genre..

But through this, the Guru has been a bit of a pioneer in the world of HH.. i guess this is a thread to a loss of a legend.. he to me has injected so much funk, jazz, and general danceable goodness to this great genre..

i know its not for everyone and doeasnt really have a huge amount of bass guitar in it.. ok some of this has some great bass lines in it...

they do hard rap to wonderful funky hip hop..for those who dont know these are some great samples

From a Hip Hop point of view, this is a really innovative track...

i think alot of respect is due to a guy who has worked with everyone from Courtney Pine, Meshel Ndegeocello, to Ronny Jordan, Branford Marsalis, Lonnie LS, Roy Ayers.. and many more......

and now for something different.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHsBh-X1JM8...feature=related

Well I'm pretty sure he passed away a while ago so this is a bit late. And if I remember right Guru is the rapper the persn responsible for the innovative beats was DJ Premier. But yeah Gang Starr were a lot better than alot of the crap that passes for hip-hop.

And Eminem didn't used to be to bad, some very clever word play sometimes but his last 2/3 albums where utter tosh and obviously aimed at topping the charts.
