warwick thumb(ish) project

right, bought this off the 'bay couple of weeks ago with the intention of getting it and seeing if i could turn it into a thumb! plus was interested in it!

was sold to me as a genuine warwick neck with a 'luthier made' reproduction thumb body! well the neck is indeed genuine warick, ovangkol black tuners, however its had either a rod replaced or new fretboard at some point which was obviously done 'at home'! the joining is poor!! it would need the fretboard taking off aand either a new one glueing or this one glueing back on better/properly! the frets look in good shape so i gues they'd be reuseable. the neck has had original mounting holes filled and new ones re-drilled - and they dont line up with the body!!! so ive never actualoly fitted the neck! the truss rod is working, and the neck appears to be straight but obviously its only under tension that u'd find out for sure, and theres no nut!

the body... well its a nice lump of what apears to be ovangkol!? the routing isnt the greatest/tidiest although comparing it with my other 'wicks looks to be about right position wise etc. no major issues other than untidy routing, it'd p[olish up really nice i reckon! and it is arched in the same way a proper thumb body would be!

the hardware is all black, the bridge is there but minus a couple of mounting screws and one bridge height adjuster, the two pups are MEC active ones but thats all there is/was, theres no other electronics. the cavity cover is there as are the neck screws and ferrels.

with a bit of love and effort i reckon this would make a nice bass - obvioulsy never going to be as good/nice as a proper thumb but nice nevertheless!!

so it needs: fretboard sorting, new nut, electrics, couple of minor hardware bits!

looking to get back some of what i paid, so how about £150 posted

Won't lie, I'm tempted but I really think this is a bit beyond me! Good luck mate, an interesting build thread awaits I hope.

Also, here's a really good guide to fretboard removal:

hello, where in the world are you, i'm kind of interested but would like to have a look in person before parting with money, i'd also like to pay cash (in person)

i've aquired projects before and never managed to find one i could sort, they all had major defects and had to be passed on.

i'm hoping you're in the newcastle/northeast area

Matt
