Interesting bass! Never seen a Grant-branded one before but identical ones appear with the Columbus & Maya brands. Maya was a Japanese export brand (Columbus & Grant were UK importer names) used by Rokkomann, who allegedly had their own factory in Kobe.

Do you know if the pups are proper 'buckers or single-coils in big cases? You can test this by seeing if a bit of metal will stick to the side without pole pieces.

Trying hard not to be tempted by this. :)

Jon.

These Grant instruments were imported and sold by James Grant Music, a guitar store at the end of Byres Road in Glasgow (just across from the Botanic Gardens) who went out of business sometime in the mid to late eighties and as you suggest they were just custom branded low end Japanese copies ala Columbus, CSL, Satellite etc.

From memory the vast majority were Strat and P-bass knock offs with the odd few Les Paul or 335 copies appearing now and again. I doubt there's many of these Grant LP basses around now.
