I've covered some of the techniques i use when improvising over static dominant chords, but as always there's many different options available. What you should take into consideration though is that each different harmonic technique that you can use should be practiced for at least a month or two before moving on to another one. It takes time to get these things happening in your playing naturally, so be patient. Here's the link... Now, while major sequence is II-V-I-[u]VI[/u], and we use altered VI there, what chord should I use on minor II-V-I-(?) Altered VI doesn't seem to work on minor II V I's.. Faithless... The VI of a I VI II V in a minor key could be various chords, it depends how much spice you want to add Or you could just keep minor... Minor b13 sounds quite nice. Have a mess around with it and see what you think. Also, remember... if the piano/guitar player is playing the IV chord as a minor, while your improvising you could still imply altered scales/chords etc. When it comes to V chords or implied V chords the rule book is wide open!
