  1. Probably lots has been said but my 2 pence worth.

Turn the low/bass down on the guitar amps and the PA. Absolutely no need for them to be boosting it especially if the cabs are large 4x12 things.

still with my setup I have a lot of high mids and I boost the bass a tad to help the small can fill the room a little.
The PA I'll usually cut to 0 anything lower than 100hz, no neEd to push it to its limits by having loads of bass and wondering why you can't hear any definition.

Also I reangle the cabs so the bloody guitar is facing at the player so they can hear how loud and cutting it is. Usually the highs disperse well enough for you to hear it mixed with your bass cabs sound to still hear it.

If they say they can't hear it then they aren't listening properly.

  2. Hard to say exactly but surely when the similarity becomes so glaringly obvious it's hard to suggest it's a coincidence.

By definition it is not hard to write 'new' music. Vsauce on YouTube has an interesting video on the finite-Ness of music. there is a finite number of possible melodies but we have only used a very small percentage as we like what we like and we want to hear the same thing over and over again.

I think xotic may have done themselves out of a few sales by calling the BB a preamp - I use mine as an o/d, as do most from what I read on forums... agree though, amazing pedal :)

    I don't know, I've brought 3 and have a clone.
    very useable as a preamp.

I use mine going into a suncoast 'cascaded' to push into gnarly snarl.

Looking for a BB MB preamp to go before it though to get another push during big sections of songs.

Get our Ts here too. Once you paybthr screen price though you dont have to pay that again.
Our CDs are from some place in Ken. Amazing quality and price.

  5. Make sure it is setup well.
All this talk of P basses sounded poop solo I don't believe should be taken as fact. I've played plenty of very good P basses at home or in stores, but fund them abhorrent in a band.

Your headphone amp however will not being the bass any favOurs. I figure it's giving out an extremely flat and clean sound and with more treble extension you are used to. This can amplify mistakes, or how much buzz there is. Coupled with the pickup and electronics in the Mark Hoppus it doesn't sound pleasant IMO.

This is what I'm talking about. Retro Two10 on top of Generation 2 Compact - driven by RH750. Props.

I like the 2x10 and 1x15 thing. Although, the rig would look prettier if both the cabs looked like the top one.

Maybe I should get a Gen 2 Compact with a silver grill from somewhere? Or I could get another Retro Two10 and see how they go? Might miss the 1x15 though.

You want to get another 2x10 and stack them vertically. Sound revelation. It's like having an 8x10 behind you only with the clarity of a smaller can. And obviously less than half the weight.

  7. You want one that doesn't colour the sound then. Some outboard pres are pretty much a colour box with an eq control, similar to the front end of an amp.

John East makes a pedal version of the J retro IIRC which should complement the bass very nicely.

The tone cap will be sucking some high end even with it wide open as far as I know though.

I cannot guarantee Sharman attendance at this one but we would like to be there if we can. However, if we can be there I can assure you of confectionery goodness courtesy of the wonderful Mrs S.

I will update you when we know more, and thank you all for the kind words regarding Jo's baking skills. It is very much appreciated.

Sooner you confirm the attendance will sky rocket. Haha.

  9. Don't buy any more stuff until you can figure out what is causing the issue.

How are you stacking them? Where do you tend to stand in relation to them? What kind of sound do you usually go for?

Also it depends on your definition on Boomy. Have you played with the EQ on the markbass? Does the low mids or bass reduce the boom.
For me boom is around 150hz, however the low mid on the markbass head is set kind of high (IMO)

I'm surprised that you finding them boomy at all. The cabs I would think would be more defined in the mids to counter any extreme lows compared to a 4x10 which by design doesn't have great dispersion.

  10. Bass video.
Starts by slapping. I've turned it off at this point,
    Turns some knobs arbitrarily.
    Slaps some more.
    Zero info presented.
Ends by playing some more slap bass.

It's very hard to find a decent quality video where the demoee is explaining and showing different sounds with different techniques.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. Apparently the passive Eq is too limiting and is putting customers off.
    [/quote]

Too right. The same preamp in the AD at least adjust the sound. The OTB is a fantastic power amp though. All its other features let it down though.

  12. Well after the Unlaunched OB1-K it looks like they've listened to some criticism that some had about it when it was first announced.
Things like price, size and weight.

Ive not read too much on it but By the model names there is a 300 watt and a 500 watt.
Both look like that they have the OB1 preamp with that blendable drive.

Depending on price and the power amps they look a lot more promising than the OB1-k.

  13. Since everyone else has chimed in I will as well.

Just done a run of shows and rehearsals with my pedal, I never really use my Pearce as it was too much of a ball ache for me to shift about. After Ant telling me it's sounds stupidly similar I brought one.

Not much for me to add that Ant hasn't already covered. I do miss the sweep able mids as the 1.2khz setting is a little too high for me, and again it lacks a lot of real bottom, but for the tones that you can get out of it for people who use precisions or like the both pups on full whack sound it really sounds amazing.
    But too thin for me.
To push it into super gnarly I still use my favoured BB preamp, which for me is a lot better than using the boost.

Again, the main channel sound is brilliant even on its own, clean tones are sweet and drives can be harsh or big and dark. The limiter also IMO works better this way round as you can see when it's turning off your big notes so to speak. And an easier thing to see on a stage of lights etc.

My board has gone from two drives and blender and an EQ to just my BB preamp and the Suncoast.

I'll have to check nearer the date but it's possible. Despite me trying to diet, if 'The Lady Of The Cake' (aka Mrs Sharman) comes up with the goods like last year it may be difficult to stay away.

    Hahahaha hahahaha!!!
