1. i am completely in love with the ABZ5 i tried one out the other day i wanted to know what the fan frets were like. it completely blew me away an now i'm obsessed...i've even had to put a picture of it in my car until i can afford it. I'm getting alot of stick about it cause i'm getting married next year and the money needs to go towards that apparently!!!!How can i live without it?i can't so expect to see it on here in a couple of months!!! :brow: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...ABZ5whole_1.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw4uj_ZPHvY

7. hey peeps!!! In about 3 months time i should have saved about 3k its taken forever!!!! I have a habit of runnig out and buying the first thing i see an that will NOT happen this time i want something for pretty much the next 10 to 20 years!!! been looking at the db751 an a gs4x12 but would like something a bit unusual at the same time. I know some guys who use mesa m6's an m9's that sound great but i'd like to find something a bit different. suggestions?
8. its not as bad as you might think its just they have effortless power and my rig struggles from time to time so i want to strike back like the empire!!!!
9. good stuff man!!! like the bass tone and the whole feel of the song oozes brylcream!!
10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjxFEN6xnig...feature=related one of the best gigs i've evern had the atomosphere in the venue was incredible!!!
11. I'd also thought about a hartke lh1000 and either a hydrive 8x10 or 4x10 + 1x15 would this be a better way to go?
12. ok as some of you may know i've been looking for ages for new gear and as i'm sick of buying something and then finding out weeks later it can't quite manage what i want from it i wanna know 100% that what i get next is pretty much for life!! So here is what i'm thinking Mesa M2000 amp Dbx166xl compressor Laney NX810 cab I play in a female fronted metal band and the 2 guitarists both use mesa dual rectifiers and 4x12cabs We tune G# C# G# C# F# i need something that can have its own sound and is clear but sits nicely in the mix and isn't gonna struggle. will this set up will be powerful enough and can anyone recommend anything else. looking to spend aboutt £1200 to £1500 new or S/H Any help would be greatly appreciated
13.
Being a bass player in such a situation must surely be like being a bass player in a band with 3 bass players. Even if you were audible, what could you possibly contribute to the sound? Anything melodic that you do will be frequency-stomped by the guitarists. Anything rhythmic that you do will be frequency-stomped and rhythm-stomped by the guitarists. I hope that I'm mistaken. S.P.
well its not too bad because the basslines don't always follow the guitars i definately help to fill the sound out, i guess i'm after more clarity an tonal definition instead of outright power and devastation...although that would be good too!!!!
14. thanks for all the replies and advice!!! i'm starting to think it might be a case of shi**y cabs and a bad eq not bad to my ears but in a full band situation so tweaking must commence we have a very dynamic sound live and generally play in quite large venues plus with the tuning being G# C# G# C# F# 2 mesas are gonna destroy me in the low down eq with the speakers they put in the mag cabs!!! £300 bass cab against £1200 guitar cab no contest imho!!! I'm getting a Tech 21 landmark 300 in a week or so and in hopefully a month or 2 an Aguilar gs4x12 if that doesn't work i'll just disconnect a couple of their valves!!!!! just hope the tech21 sounds good thru the ashdowns till i can get the gs4x12 any opinions on the tech21?? its not costing me anything at the minute but if i like it i will buy it off the guy sound clips sound good though on the website.
15.
mike that Ibanez sr 605 ltd looks very tasty. the sr series is now on my to try list. Realistically I think that the most I'm going to be able to save up is £1500 without cancelling next christmas though if I could find something for less i'd be that much closer to funding a lighweight amp and cab (I always thought Bass stuff= Heavy stuff). So for this year at least a million pounds is definitely out of the question. As is the fodera though they are very very nice. As for the fenders I've tried a MIA jazz and P but unfortunately the pair in question where owned by a player who had set a very high action so whilst I liKed their sounds my fingers felt like they were doing a high wire act. I haven't discounted them yet though as I'm sure there's a very good reason why you see more pro's playing fenders than anything else. to me It seems to be the £400+ mark where the quality basses start unless you get a lucky like some of the ones in the bargains thread. To those that say go try out a few thats what I intend to do, unfortunately Hull is not the best city for bass shopping unless I've been missing somewhere. So where in Yorkshire is the biggest selection of basses? or the densest area of guitar shops? where I can get me mitts on some basses so i can narrow my choices down a bit. Or do I need to head south?
Ta da!!! 16.
Your drummer must be built like Arnie if he can keep up with 2 4x12 mesas. Tell your guitarists to turn down IMO. There's no need to run guitar amps at such a volume that a 600w 8x10 bass amp can't keep up. I hope you're wearing ear protection. I know from several of my bands, Mesas are seriously loud and they only used 50w 1x12 combos. Unless you're playing stadiums, half stacks are overkill by a very long way. Sounds very much like you need less noise IMO.
i've been going on at them for months to turn down and finally got somewhere last week!!! our drummer was a professional session drummer for 15years and ex powerlifter so yeah arnie!!! even at lower volume it still feels like its struggling i want something that i can set at 12o'clock an be heard clearly hoping the ABM gear will do it
17. Great thread !!! some very talented musicians on this site!!! this is one my bands not really doing much at the minute but i love it to death!!! we're called Wake of Myetsa an this is probably getting on for about a year an a half ago now hope you like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPRgOa0XT9U http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5kuYG3aK-g
18. i have to compete with a pair of mesa dual rectifiers running 4x12 cabs i'm currently running a MAG 600 ashdown through 2 4x10 MAG cabs and my amp is at full volume constantly!!! i'm thinking of changing my whole rig to an ashdown ABM 8x10 and a AMB 500 evoIII will i finally get vengance on those 6 string bandits or still struggle do you think? Need more noise!!!
19.
Good evening people! Just need to get some help before buying a little combo. I am after a 30watt (or there about), bass combo. Trouble is, I am after an amp with a wide range of sounds. Looking for an amp that will give me some old school, phat 70's bass sounds, Jazzy, blues. Right through to a more modern rock/metal sounds from bands of today. If there is anyone out there that could point me in the right direction. That wouls be great Cheers David
Give this a look!!!! 22.
If you have 4-500 then you should be able to get an ABM 8x10 easy enough. They aren't like the 4x10s though, they are sealed like the classic Ampeg. In fact, you can have mine for £400. As much as I love it, I need to lose a cab.
Well i need to sell some stuff first but if your up for it i'd be seriously interested!! would there be a big improvement in tonality/volume over the mag cabs? i'm assuming there would be as the ABM series is pro gear
