I'm gonna try again this month. I have a bit of time. Gonna go with an idea of twisting something as it goes along and have some mystical elements.

When I first started playing bass in a covers band I had to learn about 40 songs quickly. It's only recently that ive had to play them again and cant believe how far off the mark some of my bass lines were in places (on the whole ok though). And I played with that band for 15 years. No one ever said anything.
It's cos no one listens to the bass player!
Even bass players by the looks of things on this thread!😅

So the consensus of the thread is all bass players are angels and the rest of em are bastards! 😅

One thing I love about Holdsworth is how fellow genius players like Vai or Van Halen say they don't understand it. It is totally unique.

He'll have it low to shred more easily

I think he does play the bass on many of his records...
Here's UK's 'In the Dead of Night' where he nails the line.I used to play this in a band at college. Great Fun.
Yngwie's solo in this shows just hiw unworldly Alan Holdsworth was!

He plays fretless on a lot of his stuff. There is some shredding on this I think.
-
I think the mistake i've made is there is just too much going on and too much of it.
What I'll do is take some inspiration from the next picture and put it into this and enter it next month.😆

While the deadline is midnight tomorrow , I won’t get to setting the vote thread till tea time when I get home from work , as long as it’s here by then all is cool , and if they’re anything like mine , they are never finished , they are set out into the world on a hope and a prayer to find their way in this cruel, cruel world.
😁
Thanks but mine is literally not finished. I need to write parts for 3 sections. Edit and mix. I just don't have the time. I've enjoyed trying tho. It will be good when finished.

My won't be finished by the end of tomorrow. I'm out

But which Prince is the best for metal?

Mines getting there. Got the track laid out. I'm probably half way there.

In that case you're done!
You never need more than a riff, unless it's 2 riffs and a widdley bit.
You've just analysed all my composition work!

Copycat!
I've got a gap!
And two superimposed time signatures!
I didn't, however, go so far as to change key. I'm a gentleman after all!
Currently rolling it in glitter and adding far too many effects.
Don't know what I'm changing yet. I just have the form.......and a riff now. It will probably take me all month if I finish at all!
-
Literally just after typing that last post and thinking about why I couldn't get anything from it and how I compose. It came to me!
So there are some blue and green bits, then a big splooge of yellow, then blue- green.
So the form will be 2 sections or types of sections. Then a big completely different bit. Then back to the 2 types of sections.
The time changing up the side of the graph means I'll change some things as it goes along within the sections. Don't know what. Harmony, chords not sure.
I'll try and have a go.

I was considering doing one last month and this but I just can't do anything with them pics. It probably says more about me than it does the choices!

I like it, and I really like her signature model Fender.
It actually makes such an old thing look fresh.
I prefer horribly obnoxious, aggressive tones! Or jaco tone or duffs tone or john paul Jones tone or stu hamm's tone, or Neil Murrays tone.....

Can't believe their career pinnacle hasn't been mentioned.

I had a few lessons with a guy that did that. A session guitarist called Peter Maxim, an incredibly softly spoken man who taught me things I'd not normally play like the bass parts to Bill Withers and Ian Dury songs.
Looking back he was brilliant for me. I'd ask to learn a song and he say no. He'd have me clapping to metronome, playing octaves against bass and snares in odd times. Spelling out extended chords. Non of the stuff I wanted to, but stuff I was really grateful for years later.
-
It was 'Another Brick in the Wall'
Not by choice. I had bass lessons for a year. The teacher was a jazz fusion guitarist but could play bass. He taught it me, then basically solo'd over it whilst I kept playing it.
So used me as a backing track essentially.

I might join in the next one if I can get any inspiration from the picture. Couldn't this month.
