  1. It's about being a fan of the style of an object that got iconic characteristics in a way. Not about partners.. To keep it realistic .. 😉
  2. For me it's like.... changing the org. wheel rim of the most beautiful car in the world... an e type Jaguar against a modern one, like for a Porsche one. It might go faster in the bend but will never look as cool!!!! 🙂 It will never be the same. But I know, that's only my view, there will be always guys who only go for speed and that's ok. 🙂
  3. It's a bit like a Fender P without pickguard. Still a Fender but no "real" P.
  4. Well only with surrounds it's a real BB (in my world) 🙂
  5. Well we all have good and bad ideas sometimes 😛
  6. If I could be a consultant at Yamaha...I would try to convince them to built pu frames where any other brand could fit in and still keep the surround design. Best of both worlds. Still I don't like the design without it.
  7. In my opinion, the strings are an often underrated factor. THE most underrated factor! When over here the "Musicstore" in Cologne got in the 734a, I tested it and was very pleased with its sound. After some time, I went there to test it again, even brought my old Yami to compare but by that time the strings of the 734 were so done that to this day I could not manage to get the same impression out it. It sounds very bad and I am happy that I played it when strings were new. Writing this- I was in the store yesterday- the 734 could not convince me to buy it because it sounds so "bad" with old strings (for my ears) like any bass does. I like them fresh with as much highs as possible... Out of experience (for my sound) I always tend to say: The best bass effect (pedal) is: putting on new strings!
  8. Please excuse my question ...I am not from England... there is a Yamaha store in London???
  9. Did you record anything in the studio? The sound difference will not get the producers like !
  10. Well, I did some changes to that bass...one of my personel fav. is not liked by many.....! 😛
  11. My BB1000MA back then in it's gold periode 🙂
  12. I think that was the reason Yamaha puts in the normal sized pus in the new models. If you want you can replace them with whatever pu you want, switch to the P-only and play a Precision...
  13. I'm surrounded by Fender guys and it is like an illness 😛 They don't realise a better tone ... had severall Precisions... not one lastet long. On the other hand...maybe I am the sick person 😛
  14. I saw one in a cool dark pink (lila) !
  15. I think I did not complete the bass with a neck because of my experience with that orange 414 and te (expensive) Warmouth neck. The beautiful neck just did not fit sound wise with the body,- the org. neck sounded a lot better.
  16. What could the reason for an extra hole be? An active circuit with different potentiometers?
  17. Can this be a 450s body?
  18. This is the body that ist waiting for "more" for many years now..
  19. Always liked this finish !
  20. And the 1000ma had to go through many optical changes over the years.. 🙂
  21. I was using Trace Elliot before. But the 410 cabs are so heavy 🙂 Last year Mark Gooday was so kind to offer me a good deal 🙂
  22. Yes it's like your pic. It was black with a lot of scratches, I took of the paint and staint it in a dark brown see through colour. I have it in an corner for many years now. And this is my main bass. Not very eye-catchy, but on any recording I do. I always bring several basses but the cheapo gets the job!
  23. Yes, this one is a later model! Good eyes ! Yours looks totally great ! I still have a BB body that I can't tell what it is. Old BB shape but P/J configuration. No surround drill holes. Maybe a 350 or 450... Always wanted to buy a neck for it.
  24. Tell me about ! 🙂
  25. There are certainly some very good Sandbergs out there. But they got more and more expensive over the years and in my world you can't get more value for the money than with a BB. Just buy a 300 and maybe change the pu if you want and you get a very cool bass!
