  1. Ordered a copy of the p-pick up ring from a metalworker. It is on it's way. To keep it low cost it was made from aluminum. Not sure if that will work for me. But if it does, there will more be following and even some in brass for gold hardware. It is so much fun playing around with that stuff. And for my new old 300 I took the ring from one of my 1000MA's. But that bass wants it back ! 😄

  2. I once had a 1024x. It surely felt somehow more high end than the 400 series, yes. Everything feels a bit like an upgrade. But although it has the "better" pu's and everything, I liked the 400 series better. The 1024x was heavier and somehow sounded not as "fresh" as my 1000's or the 400 series. So it had to go I think 3 weeks after I bought it. Maybe it is a psychological thing... If a "cheap" bass sounds very good I love that bass, while when an expensive bass sounds good, it is what is expected of it to do. I owned (in my younger years) anything from Wals (3) to Modulus, several Status, Warwicks etc etc... and to be honest, I miss some of them now because I know their today's market price ( oh man..) but not because I miss their sound!

Edit: But I love my 1000MA's because every time I enter a studio it is this bass that get's the job! No matter what other bass was arround. So I am happy.

To be honest I have 4  bb Yamaha’s and I haven’t played the 414 or my 1024 x for ages. I’m actually thinking of moving them on I’m only really playing the bb3000A and my BBPH.

That's exactly my situation with my 1000MA's. I owned about 15 (?)  BB's in total but I only play my 1000MA's. I sold even the 3000 and the 3000MA (besides two 1600, 1024, several 414.424,614)  but every time I am in love with anything else and then play the 1000MA again... it's clear that this is my bass. Sometimes I just don't realize that I found my bass and tone and feel many years ago. Well, it is so much fun buying another bass, but in the end it always comes down to my two- for me - very special basses.
I do need a different tone from time to time for more hifi sounds on recordings. But my fingers fuse with the fretboard on this bass like with no other.

If I would realize this there would be no reason for any new bass and this for about 20 years backwards now. Thank god I'm not that smart ! 😛

And sorry for my bad English- I'm trying 🤪 I can oder a beer but telling a story forwards / backwards ... I am still struggling ! 😉

  4. I bought two cheap Telecaster basses as a diy project in spring and I do now have two absolute genius rockets. New tuners here, a new pick up there, even a new finish.. they look great but the best about these basses are the thick chunky necks! Not for Dream Theatre stuff...but they do Rock n Roll very (!!!) good !

  5. Well, at least there is still a BB range. But I will never understand why no company does REAL reissues of their cult models. Even the BP34 comes in boring blues band colours....

The Hook bass is a first and only try and without Peter Hook even this would not have been realized.

  6. Actually, - having owned quiet a few BB's (and even the 300 models) I am surprised about the sound and the building quality of that cheap BB version and wonder why I don't own more 300's.

It is heavier than the 414/424 models and feels very different. Saying this, I want to state that I love the 400series too. Maybe it's the wood that they used back then, I don' know.

Talking about the Brexit consequences... well that is a shame like the whole thing. I don't mean it political but I just love anything about England, have a lot of friends there and I don't like the fact that we as normal people "have to pay the price" . In this case in a very obvious way.  But back to BBs...  Can we convince Yamaha to bring back some old finishes or maybe cool new ones? And the pickup rings... I want them back, at least as a spare part... never understood why they stopped! 🙂
An official BB signature bass would be the shape of the 1000MA/3000MA in a red like the 300 or even metallic... wow... 🙂

  7. Well, the new member of my BB family has arrived today. It's red is even more beautiful than from the pics. I thing gold hardware will fit very well.... Super low action ! NICE!

Edit: Even the pickup rings of the 1000MA should fit... Put a ring on a 300 before, looks killer!

  8. Beeing away a bit from the BB front I just could not resist buying a very cool dark red BB300 with reversed pickups (as my beloves 1000MA's) The bass will arrive next week. I have plans to upgrade it to look even better... 🙂
