I bought two cheap Telecaster basses as a diy project in spring and I do now have two absolute genius rockets. New tuners here, a new pick up there, even a new finish.. they look great but the best about these basses are the thick chunky necks! Not for Dream Theatre stuff...but they do Rock n Roll very (!!!) good !

Well, at least there is still a BB range. But I will never understand why no company does REAL reissues of their cult models. Even the BP34 comes in boring blues band colours....
The Hook bass is a first and only try and without Peter Hook even this would not have been realized.

Can't find anything about new models or colours..?

Actually, - having owned quiet a few BB's (and even the 300 models) I am surprised about the sound and the building quality of that cheap BB version and wonder why I don't own more 300's.
It is heavier than the 414/424 models and feels very different. Saying this, I want to state that I love the 400series too. Maybe it's the wood that they used back then, I don' know.
Talking about the Brexit consequences... well that is a shame like the whole thing. I don't mean it political but I just love anything about England, have a lot of friends there and I don't like the fact that we as normal people "have to pay the price" . In this case in a very obvious way. But back to BBs... Can we convince Yamaha to bring back some old finishes or maybe cool new ones? And the pickup rings... I want them back, at least as a spare part... never understood why they stopped! 🙂
An official BB signature bass would be the shape of the 1000MA/3000MA in a red like the 300 or even metallic... wow... 🙂-

Well I put the 300 into my small rehersal combo and recorded via smatohone. It has very nice, very dry tone. Ideal to work with effects later on.
Good decision. I wanted to change the bridge, but the bidge is not a std one...https://soundcloud.com/user987060971/bb300_012021/s-7IPIRKL2p8u

The bass was not expensive and the seller was quiet irritated that I did not aks for a better price. Just bought it for his price on ebay. 😛

For the red 300 I am thinking of gold hardware. Bridge and tuners and a set of hot pick ups. Maybe even some pick up rings in gold.
-
But I also have to say that the concept of a 5 string (for me) is so much different that I would not care for reversed or not on a 5 string !
-
Because I was never interested in passive 5 stringers I have to admit I don't know if there have been such basses from the BB series. Never saw a 5000 reversed?
-
Beeing away a bit from the BB front I just could not resist buying a very cool dark red BB300 with reversed pickups (as my beloves 1000MA's) The bass will arrive next week. I have plans to upgrade it to look even better... 🙂

So I got a first price for a metalic red finish on one of my BB1000MA's. Will try to get some "cheaper" ones but I think the plan is up... 🙂
I will change the hardware to gold to make it perfectOK, Corona will dealy the plan...but after the lockdown I'm ready to go!
-
Well...the situation does just not make sense right now... bands fall appart, no gigs...
-
Actually, I am more into the "new finish" option... I do have two superb 1000MA's and they do exactly what I want. Of course the BBPH would be wonderfull to have! 🙂
But 1000 bucks for another BB... man, I work hard for my basses...

Just was thinking about what I could do next .... 👩⚖️
Option 1 : buying the new BBPH 999,-Option 2: a new finish for one of my BB1000MA'S 600;- ??? (metallic cherry red)
Option 3: buying a 434m and upgrading it 500,- plus ...300,- ?
-
Well I think it is not really difficult to recreate the sound without a BBPH bass. But the 1000MA has the same revearsed p-pickup ..which I like better than the normal way. A key reason for me to love the MA-BBs for so many years. I had several BB's but after Ii got used to the tone of the MA pickups the normal position is too boomy, to bassy for me.

If the 734A would come in a cool finish....
-
Yes that's what I meant .. 😉

How do I embed a youtube video so that you can see it as above? I only can do links 😜
-
And I was wandering if the PH BB was only a BB734 without the bridge pick up...but I heard PH saying that the neck was exactly the measures of his 1200s... Can anybody tell if the necks are different?

It's just that I seem to like metal stuff in the area of pick ups 😛
