  1. Only two BB1000MA left. Everything else lost in direct comparison . Finally the BB3000MA lost a second time against it's cheaper brother.

All other BB's with "normal" pu configuration sound strange to me after all this years with them... sold all other BB's to collegues .. they are happy.

    Ah there still is a BB450 (?) body... 😛

  2. I love both but like bolt on better soundwise. Somehow it fits my way of a hard fingerstyle playing better.  With Mr. Hook...well I think on one side a signature should be like the bass the the artist ist playing. On the other hand, if he now is playing this kind of Yamaha and is happy with it... fair enough.

What I find really important is the price. I don't see the point in a 3000+ Euro / Pounds instrument that you can't afford buying. Times changed and we all (!) know, that a bass does not have to cost a fortune to be an excellent instrument. Even less, when we are talking about a bolt on 4 string bass that is nearly a thing of the current production? Or am I wrong that it will be the shape of the today's BB series ?

Besides that...I am very exited and hope to get one in my hands 🙂 I do have very good experience with Yamaha signature basses ! 🙂 (NOT talking about the BS basses)

  3. In the meantime I got the toggle switch repaired and now the BB1000MA is ready. It is a fascinating thing to compare the basses optical conditions ..my old one has many litte ditches and looks like a working horse while the second one looks like if the seller was telling the truth when stating that it always was a spare bass in the case. It is like brand new the surface is flawless. When I look at it I notice to be surprised when I expect to see a ding or a ditch that I know and it is not there 😛
I think I need to buy a Zoom recording device to get a better result than just my mobile phone recordings..

If you spot another one going locally, which you are not going to buy for yourself, then please do post a link on this thread. As Andy said they're pretty rare over here in the UK and it's likely to be of interest to a number of BB lovers.

The reverse P on the ma is a desirable alternative set up, for sure! Interestingly the Peter Hook model about to be released is also a reverse P.

What I love about the 1000MA is its kind of "dry" and direct sound. I think its very unique. Sometimes, depending on strings, I even think to hear some kind of Jaydee-esque sound. I know this is only in my head and it is just a nuance of it but the "normal" pu BBs don't do that because they do more boomy bass. The 1000MA ist very dry and (translated maybe wrong from German into Englisch) "bony" . You can dial in bass but it will and does always cut through.
As I wrote many sides before I do own other more expensive basses but in the studio the sound guy always chooses the BB.  This bass -for me- is a one of a kind BB. Maybe like an old 60s something Fender for millions of bass players.  While I am definitely not a Fender guy.

  5. Due to the reverese PU they sound different than any 424/414/1024/2024 .. every time I play one of these basses I do notice that they do more deep bass but I am that used to the sound of the 1000MA that it is to much for me and I go back to the reverse bass.

    Spoiler

  6. Mh... I don't care if it is looking like a Yamaha classic or not 🙂 I always loved the matt green of the BB3000MA..... and a really yellow taxi / vintage white and gold hardware does look good too.
Did a sound check, the toggle is set to both pus. And without knowing what bass I play I would not be able to tell which one is playing.  No difference at all....

  7. Just home from picking up my second BB1000ma. Toggle switch non functional. Therefore reasonable in price.  Lucky day!
Bought it to refinish it completely. Just can't decide the colour...

  8. Sick at home...  used the time to compare my BBs . All basses played over the 25watts Hartke combo and with the same preamp sound.
A little unfair...only the 414 and 614 have fresh strings..the difference is obvious.. 1000MA and 3000MA have old(!) strings.
Both pickups, eq 100% . BB614 no boost, everything below zero-position. Fingerstyle.  Mobile in front of combo on the floor. Sick virus timing 😛

    Headphones recommended !!
