1. Hi, here I link a new video for the song "Everyday", originally composed for piano, that I played on 9 viola da gamba http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1-TUaqG7V8 Feedbacks are welcome
2. Thank you very much!!!
That's really beautiful. Good job. How did you get into playing the viola da gamba? Do you use it a lot for modern music like this, or mainly for baroque and earlier?
I'm finishing the degree in viola da gamba at conservatory, where you just play only renaissance and baroque music. I try to' play also contemporary music. I play music from modern and contemporary composer. In my latest album, "Plugin contemporary music and ponzini plays uematsu" I played with viola 6 pieces fron Final Fantasy soundtracks, and till this recording I started to use mostly viola da gamba in my music. I have two different violas, one baroque (Colichon 7 stringa bass viol) and a modern one (M2 6 strings conceived for me, with a different shape, a little bit smaller on the sides, and tuned 440, instead the baroque one tuned 415). If you check out my website www.guidoponzini.eu and the other YouTube videos you can see other videos with viola
3. Hi, I link here a piece from the soundtrack of Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, played by me on viola da gamba http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jehPFguq_4 Suggestions and comments are welcome!
4. The Jazz Bass cow with pink is truly AMAZING!!!!
5. Hi, I have a problem. Just bought a brand new EHX Micro Synth bass... Everything works, but when I use the Attack Delay pot the volume gets lower and already till the 2nd line (10 is maximum) I can't hear anything. It seems to work more as aggressive volume control more than Attack Delay. When I tried the pedal at the shops never had these problems (the test pedal, because they gave me this one new), with the same bass. I'm doing something wrong or the pedal is broken?
6. Thank you very much! I'm so happy of your feedbacks
7. Golchen , thank you very much! This Stick is a 10 string stick with PASV4 made with Bamboo (Dark).
8. nig, thank you! About hands: no,actually I'm not left handed... Here I liked to put the first melody on the bass side... Keeping the ostinato with the thirds and the melody cross the bass and high parts of the Stick I wanted to give this character to this piece, usually I play with standard technique In the entire album I tried to experiment with some compositions technique (I have few counterpoint pieces in which the Stick plays two completely different melody on the two hands and is joined by doublebasses and violins), and with the ensemble (I used two violins and two doublebasses, three doublebasses and one violin, three violin and stick, the entire ensemble, and so on)... I tried to give particular flavours of classical contemporary music in a concerto with Stick, that is something completely new
9. Thank you so much!!! Stingray5, thank you very much. Unfortunately I don't have footages from recording sessions RhysP, thank you! The tuning is standard for Stick, with medium gauge strings (Bass: C G D A E - High: F# B E A D). I don't use effects on Stick, just clean sound
10. A little video with one piece of my latest work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbM2XSTX9KQ The video are some reharsal footages, the audio is from my new cd, I recorded with musicians from Ennio Morricone orchestra (Roma Sinfonietta). I composed and arranged all the pieces. Feedbacks are welcome!!!
11. Jam, thank you very much. I'm so happy that you liked this version. All Ponzini plays Uematsu features also: 1) Promised Land (Final Fantasy VII Advent Children) 2) Those who fight (Final Fantasy VII) 3) Music Box (Final Fantasy V) 4) Ronfaure (Final Fantasy XI) 5) Those who fight further (Final Fantasy VII) 6) Rose of May (Final Fantasy IX) In the center I use a plastic pen on the strings to obtain a dulcimer effect and a more percussive sound. On the right I play a six strings Viola da Gamba Thank you so much!
12. Here a video of Final Fantasy VII piece "Those who fight further", played on viola da gamba, 8 strings and fretless basses. feedbacks and suggestions are welcome Just one little thing: if you already heard the original version and the Black Mages one, you will find that this version is quiter and not so "strong" as the others... For two reason I choose a less strong playing: a) This is one of six pieces that I played from Nobuo Uematsu in my new album, in "Ponzini plays Uematsu" section, and this one is the only with electric bass. The other ones are played in chamber music style. So, I didn't want too much difference, even if here you have electric sounds. As I love the original and Black Mages versions, I wanted a totally different "reading" of the piece, just to point out a different mood.
13. I think it's a very good suggestion. the most important lessons of my life came from a 70% from people who were not bassplayers. An incredible experience was playing with musician from other countries with a strong rhythmical aspects, and I can hear now their influence on my playing, on each instrument (bass, stick, viola da gamba). From teachers, I learned so much from an amazing teacher of partiture reading at conservatory, a man with an incredible culture, and each lesson was like a long journey in several aspects of music, about compositions style and techniques, about life of composers and the use of each instrument (for example, when explained me the use of the resonance of acoustic piano structures in Debussy compositions it was amazing), and so on... hours spent listening to him that now I miss so much! I believe that playing with good musicians and listening to lessons that come from other players are an incredible tool for becoming a better musician. For technique, of course, you need a bass teacher, but then you can find new and personal solutions maybe trying to copy some elements that you like in the style of other players.
14.
Is that your Chapman Stick in the background?
Yep... And the bass it's not a Jerzy Drozd, it's a custom made M2 (as it was written Jerzy Drozd in a previous post).
15. Here a little impro with AmpliTube 3 software
16. Hi, here a little impro that I did using AmpliTube 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2P0dDx8laW0 I think it's an amazing amp simulation software, and with Ampeg SVX and AmpliTube Fender it's a wonderfull tool for bassplayers.
17. A new video... This time it's my brand new composition, written for a multimedia event in Venice... 8 viola da gambas overdubbed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjTz5frz560 Feedbacks and suggestions are welcome! thank you
18. Hi, here a little impro with acoustic bass... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoPQ1NR4Nqk Please, if you want I would like to have feedbacks from you... Another important question: do you think that listening my pieces the differences are clear or they sound too similar each other? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9TyM-TYfJg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEClHl_yGmo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgRB_DOGqhg Thank you very much
19. Hi, here a new video, but not fretless, just a little solo impro on Acoustic Bass... Please, comments, feedbacks and suggestions are welcome! Thank you!
20. Just work on your tuning with your ears. Use the open strings for helping your ear and study slowly the positions. Keep the left hand in position, avoid useless movements of your fingers. If you want I put some fretless lesson on Playbassnow.com ... http://playbassnow.com/author/guidoponzini/
21. Thank you very much to all... I'm really happy and honored of your feedbacks I'm so glad and happy that you like my works. If you want I will keep you updated on my next videos If you want I am also guest teacher in Marlowe Dk website, Playbassnow.com Go in Guest Teachers and click on Guido Ponzini for my lessons. Thank you very much.

23. Thank you very much! Wateroftyne, I use Galli Black Nylon strings
24. On Internet you can find several tutorial, as Plumbob already suggested you. And the program are pretty much similar to "old-style" workflow... You can just record and stop... Then if you want you can go deeply in editing process. Of course for the best results you have to be a sound-engineer, but to obtain good quality works (also professional quality) you just need to practice and it's not so difficult with modern technique... To start Logic Express is amazing. For sound-designer work (theater, soundtracks, video, etc...) I use Logic Studio and Final Cut Studio. The Express versions works however pretty well and for standard editing they do almost the same job of the pro versions (of course you will have less formats, less options, etc... but for a standard editing they are nearly the same). Logic Studio suites features very good programs for creating even your own cd. Sometimes you need to work with several programs... I give you an example: in one of your tracks you have a noise. If you use the Logic Studio denoiser you will be quite disappointed (or better to say, I am). So, a good way is to export your track and open it with Soundtrack Pro... Then select a small part of the track where there is the noise (for example before starting playing in the silence, where the noise is alone) and then select "Select Print noise" and then "Denoise"... In this way you will have a quite good denoise option... Logic Studio is a wonderfull suite for its price (here in Italy 500 euros, I think in USA 500$), and you will have inside quite good plugin (IR reverbs, good mastering suite, etc...). Just start doing your recording and you will learn, just read articles and tutorials... The best way to learn is to do...
