Lots of controllers use USB these days, which bypasses the need to have midi in built into your interface... IIRC your 2i2 has no midi in - so a Nanokey/pad is very likely the easiest and hassle free way in.

If you do want to use you existing keyboard using it's midi out, I would consider an interface upgrade ( or a separate midi interface) rather than trying to use a generic midi/usb workaround device....

For quick and easy midi work, I use the Korg Nanokey , Nanopad and NanoKontrol - around £30 each... The Kontrol is worth having just for writing automation alone...

According to the manual (see above link), you get 4 mic ins,4 line ins and a stereo mix if you want it...

You need to plug the holes (drill out and glue in a dowel with wood glue/PVA) then pilot and screw in the correct position.

I prefer to multitrack live, too... at least you can balance levels and ride (fine tune with envelopes) volumes with each track - while still capturing the live vibe.

Cheapest.... an Alesis multimix 8 will get you 8 seperate ins to your lappy via USB - around £110 new.

Thats OK, but don't use mp3's unless you really have to - WAV will give a much better result... As will Reaper over Audacity.

As for your laptop, it should be fine for tracking (just recording) unless it is [i]really[/i] aged.

try setting to 48 and then adjust the sample rate buffer - after updating the driver,of course...

I have to echo the comments that are posted through this thread.... Jon was good enough to answer my questions promptly,and then hold the item for me to suit my cashflow. Communication was great and the [b][i]extemely[/i][/b] thorough packaging saved the day (UPS delivered a torn/dented box).

I was perhaps a little unclear in my earlier post...If a nut is cut too low - I prefer to remove the nut and use a shim between nut and neck.

Almost invisible and gives you the chance to get it right...

No problems with running both on the same computer,

Yes you can, its not the best use of your time/workflow - but your call... probably quicker to consolidate/export the whole project onto a flash drive and transfer that across.

No hassles here.. I have 2 desktop icons that labelled themselves, to start whichever I choose (or both if needed). They are both set to use the same vst folder and both will happily work with any .RPP file.

Nowt to fear, seriously...

Easy, quick way to check the slot height ( saves finding the feeler gauges).

Fret the string at the 3rd fret and tap the string with your fingertip onto the top of the first fretwire.

The ideal height yields a click as the string contacts the fret - if there is any discernible movement before the click then you'll need to lower the slot. No click means you have gone too far and you'll need to pack the nut slot and try again.


If you take it very carefully and check progress frequently, it should be difficult to overdo it.

Ok, I was looking for something that made an MIA strat and a MIJ tele sound fantastic - and give that 'joy to play' feel back from the amp...

The X2 absolutely blew me away with it's beautiful 6v6 fender sound - it has a12ax7 valve in the pre to warm up the amp modelling and 2x 6v6's giving 15w AB valve power....

If I googled correctly, the Vox is SS with a only 12ax7 in the preamp and 40w SS power - I didn't try one,tbh - the SS poweramp crossed it off my list

I'd take the CV anytime... I played one at PMT whilst amp shopping, It sounded stunning through a super champ x2 and felt great to play.

We had a Vintage LP goldtop in the house a while back - good guitar and P90 sound but not in the same league as the CV.

I'd go with that... my lefty Tele has just 'Fender' on the headstock.

Just to clarify:

It is fine to use Reaper x32 on a x64 computer. I do it myself as a lot of plugs I use are 32 bit only... I do this to lower the CPU hit that comes with bridging plugs.

If Drumcore plays nice with Reaper x32 - simply install a copy of 32bit Reaper to use for drums, do what you need and import into your x64 project. Or do it all in '32' if you're not intending to use lots o' RAM.

Reaper bridges very well for itself these days... as for the drumcore problem - you could try Addictive drums demo (one kit only but sound great) or EZDrummer is my choice but will cost ya. (lite version available on CM disc and some hardware)
