  1. My Duke came with gut a likes from new.
They aren't bad but the E was totally useless, floppy with very little tone.
    I sold them pretty quickly.
I've tried loads of strings but always came back to golden slaps.
If you want some synthetic guts the Superior Bassworks deluxe wackers are a much better bet.

  2. The actual bass can make a major difference too.
My old Strunal was a total nightmare for feeding back,a total nightmare,I had everything damped & an extra sound post but still had problems.
My Duke however is nothing like as prone to feedback,I do still cover the f-holes on a loud stage though as it is a major help when cranking the volume.
BTW if you tape the f-holes you need at least 5 layers of gaffa tape for it to work.
As for magnetic pickups - for me yuck,I hated both the sound & feel of the steel strings.
I run through a GK MB800 Fusion, everything set flat apart from the bass control which is set around the 9 o'clock position (bass cut) & can play stood in front of the amp at pretty high volume with no feedback.

  3. just a little bump for this superb quality bass.
i think you'd struggle to find a bass that plays or sounds anywhere near as good as this one for the price.
so if you are thinking of upgrading or indeed just buying a quality double bass look no further
in a very recent test it absolutely blew away a very nicely set up strunal bass on both tone & volume
it really is a powerful sounding bass

  4. I have just joined a Black Sabbath tribute band so find myself needing an overdrive or distortion pedal for the first time ever.
I'm looking for Geezer's distorted tone on songs like NIB & children of the grave.
    So nothing too dirty.
I'll be playing a P bass through my GK MB800 Fusion.
    Cheers.
    P.s. I don't want to spend a fortune

Looks like they're available from Thomann...

Are these the ones you have?

    Yes that's them.
Duke basses have large f holes so these should cover any others I would think.
    They work beautifully well.

    Sorry - thread hijack....
Where did you get you f-hole covers from?

Just had the feedback gig from hell....

    No worries Rev.
I got Thomas at Duke Bass to make them for me,they are a massive help.
    Cheers

  7. I've used my BB2 playing upright bass in a Rockabilly band for a couple of years & couldn't be happier with it.
My new band is a Black Sabbath tribute & the BB2 still sounds awesome with either a passive 4 string or an active 5 string bass.
I have never ever lacked for volume & never had trouble cutting through the mix either, the BB2 is just awesome.
    Good choice sir 😀
