btw.. the o.s should be the perfect solution to your issues. you can pre-programme up to 50 combinations of its internal fx, and 'bank' them for specific songs, or a whole set if required. the pedal isn't the problem, for me, it's my tiny brain. seriously, it's worth every penny.
I've been putting music to this for ages but it all ends up sounding like creepy Kate Bush, or The Revolting Cocks.
That is what is appealing about the BEF is that from the demo's on the web it seems to do everything from MuTron to Synth with everything in between which is really good but without user presets I think there could be a great deal of time spent knob fiddling! I think that is how I ended up with so many filters I just like to have a sound set up and then click it on when needed. Not sure that I could cope with the O.S. and all those settings!! Beginning to think that I might just have to buy a Pedaltrain Mini to go alongside the PT-2 or just live with exchanging pedals off the board for different gigs.
yeh, i know where you're coming from, which is why i suggested the two small boards option near the start of this thread. i play in a punk/hardcore band, and jam with a couple of mates doing dub/dubstep/noise/d'n'b aswell. it pees me off detatching pedals from boards, changing signal paths etc..so i'm still trying to get the right set-up. the b.e.f. is exactly as you describe, and i can't wait for the 'pro' version ! i spend far too much time twiddling with my knob already.
Is the Bass Envelope Filter from Source Audio really that good?
i really like it for the sheer number of different sounds you can get from one pedal. granted, it is digital, and doesn't have the fx loop of the gr., but for versatility it is fantastic, and can do a bigger range of sounds than the g.r. it seems to go much more squelchy/wet. i do hope they end up doing a 'pro' version, like the mwbs, with presets and a blend. the phaser setting is a major bonus too. try it, i doubt you'd be disappointed. edit : the O.S. is the best synth pedal i've tried (out of syb-5, akai sb-1,and korg g-5), but demands a great deal of patience !!!! you will not find it as easy to use as the 00 and bd. the manual is extensive and at first a total headf***. perseverence does pay off though.

ha ! don't you just hate it when your intention gets confused by writing stuff down on a forum ? excellent post, excellent topic.

Loud Bangs and Rumbles on a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0
phil.i.stein replied to thebrig's topic in Amps and Cabs
Not really. The only thing that might have had a bearing, is that I swapped out the original valve for a new one on Saturday, but still the problem existed. So I put back the original before taking the amp back to the shop, and it worked fine in the shop, and is still fine now. Maybe there was a tiny speck of dirt in the valve sockets, and it's now been dislodged. Just an uneducated guess though!
that's interesting... my 12.0 has two channels. the tube channel seems way louder than the f.e.t. channel. i will contact GB before i attempt anything to resolve this. so thanks ! -
wow. freaking awesome. not usually my cup of tea, but you'd have to be brain-dead not to appreciate that level of skill.
If you are reading this guys, the amp is still behaving itself! I've had my regular bass plugged in for around three hours, with no problems so far.
glad to hear it. result ! like w.o.t. asked, any idea what the problem was, out of interest ? -
My first thought was ergonomics. The lead comes out the right hand side of your guitar, so it can go to the right hand end of your pedalboard without crossing in front of your feet. But that doesn't stack up, as the output then has to cross your feet to get to the input on your amp behind you. Any ideas?
that would be my guess. the output lead can then trail around the back of your amp, and maybe secured to help it avoid being pulled out unintentionally. although maybe there's a more sophisticated explanation.. probably sucks if you're a lefty.
No, the 6.0 has not got this switch. Oh well, back to the shop, it's only a two hour round trip (M25 then A12), two of my favourite roads! Then I will probably have to do the same in a week or two's time to pick it up. The £50 I saved by buying it from this dealer, will all be lost in fuel costs. Maybe in hindsight, it's probably better to buy locally, where you can just pop in and out regularly. Maybe another good topic in the making!
i hope you don't lose faith in the brand. i'm sure that if GB heard of your problem, they would be happy to compensate you for the problem in whatever way they could. it sounds like you have been very unlucky. -
I've tried every lead and cable I have, and they are all good quality. How do I set the switch to -12db on the preamp? And where is the switch? I apologise in advance if I am confirming what my avatar pic suggests! But I've just had a good look at the amp, and can't see a switch anywhere, and there is no mention of it in the manual. Cheers
my 12.0 has an active/passive switch in front of the preamp, marked as low/high gain, (mine is set to low for active basses) is that not the case for the 6.0 ?, my mm sterling piezo puts out a big signal, so i always keep it on low. it is an extremely well-behaved amp, so i'm not sure about your specific problem. probably best to take it back to the dealer ? -

phil.i.stein replied to thebrig's topic in Amps and Cabs
i use a genz-benz shuttle 12.0 with my mm sterling piezo (extremely active). no problem except a crackly volume pot. check your leads/connections first, then take it to the shop. edit: i presume you have the switch set to -12db on the preamp? -

oooh that's quite good. reminiscent of Dillinger Escape Plan. pity about the 'cock-rock' stance of the guitarist .. -
as above. i'm still experimenting, but basically, octaver first>hartke vxl. this signal goes into the LS-2. the LS-2 splits the signal, one side to the fuzz and envelope filter, the other side to the octavius squeezer (which i'm using as a synth most of the time) the two channels can then be mixed at whatever volume is required. p.s. although he was viewed as a contentious character, i wish Kev (TNIT) would still post in this forum, his advice has been invaluable. edit : the source audio was from thomann.de my groove regulator is up for sale because of this beast.
You do have a lot of filters, would look at ditching a few and just having 2 and something like an LS-2 to run them in parallel to get those really wet sounds that no single filter can do on it's own.
that's where i am at the moment (cheers for the ls-2 tayste). squelch city. the vxl could be replaced, as it takes up a lot of space, but i haven't yet found anything that sounds as good for its pre-shape.
Try to sing an idea for a bassline, before you pick up the bass.
that would be my advice. i have the opposite problem to you. i have a dictaphone full of basslines, as i can't (yet) read or write music. i 'sing' it in my head, and then find it, play it and record it in order to 'memorise' it i'm kind of glad that it's that way round though. i know many excellent musos who learned the 'proper' way of music theory etc., but they look at me blankly if i ask them if they write any of their own stuff. i know this is a contentious issue, and i'm fully aware of my own lack of skills in matters of theory, but i get the feeling that if i had learned the theory first, the same would happen to me, i would be devoid of inspiration and i'd only end up playing covers (not saying there's anything wrong with that). try forgetting your standard approach. close your eyes and sing it, whistle it, whatever.
