I think Peter Hook could certainly give Adam Clayton a "masterclass". Or vice versa for that matter. The bass player is only part of the band guys. I think we forget that sometimes.

What's the problem with the Acoustic? Behringer studio gear and stompboxes are actually very good for the (very low) price, but the amps do not get such a good write-up. Not sure why, but maybe there is a lot more inherent snobbery when it comes to amps? I would have though that the Acoustic was a much higher quality amp then anything made by Behringer, but that's not to say that it will sound better to your ears! And wattage by itself is no guide to how an amp will sound...
Jeez, it's just a band audition. What next? Wash behind your ears, put on a fresh bra etc...
It's the guy's first audition. He's 19 years old FFS! He asked for advice and tips. What's so bad about people helping him out?
Heard a good one this morning as well, nerves are really creative apprehension (thank you Barry Cryer!)
Absolutely. Nerves are a sign that you give a damn. I'd be more worried if you weren't nervous! The problem, of course, is channelling that adrenaline in a positive way. That's where experience comes in.

Personally I don't find him any more "limited" than, say, John Entwistle. They are very different players of course, and I like both of them. I can't believe this has run to five pages! There really only seem to be three view points here: 1. Hooky is a crap bass player and should never be allowed to talk to others about his so-called "style" 2. Hooky is a crap bass player but has an interesting and iconic style that has a place in the pantheon of music. Listen to him! 3. Technique is a means to an end/an end in itself* *Delete as appropriate.

As already stated - be yourself and relax. Try to listen to them too, because although they might want you, you might not want to join them! Get there in plenty of time and set your gear up without any fuss. Make sure everything is working properly (obviously) beforehand... tune up properly... fit new strings (if you like that sort of thing!). Do anything you need to do to boost your own confidence basically. Good luck!
Being honest i need to hear what Aguilar cabs sound like, i have only heard the GB on youtube which i liked.
That's not a very meaningful way to audition equipment. You need to hear it in the flesh. If it was recorded badly and then you play it back through poor quality PC speakers, you will have a very skewed idea of how it sounds.
Stop thinking...... drive to Bassdirect and try the cabs out. Mark is very helpful.
True - but he doesn't stock Barefaced if that is one of the options the OP would like to try.

What does a Hartke LH500 go for these days? Even brand new they can't be much more than £300. Get a used one for maybe £200. Great value and great amps. OK, I was a bit hopeful on the new price - but there are usually a few kicking around used. Like this one for instance...
Owain mentioned he might pop along, Fatherhood permitting - I'm sure he'll bring one (or two) along if he is. Fingers crossed.
I wondered what he was up to! Haven't heard from him in ages...
For me [apart from a great tune and hook] it was the superb arrangement and great playing all round. Top song.
Fair call. But the bass is definitely the icing on the cake!
I have just bought yet another Fender bass this week and am well impressed with the sound, finish and playability. It's a Geddy Lee signature; and the neck is incredible. Probably going to be a better player than my custom shop bass I had once I get to grips with it.
You rarely hear of a bad Geddy. Even the shift from Japan to Mexico seems to have made no difference. But then again, why would it?

About "naming and shaming" - my thread as well as in general
Conan replied to BassTractor's topic in General Discussion
One thing to remember about name and shame threads is that if Basschat have any reason to believe that the facts are NOT correct and therefore the site is at risk, the threads will be removed.
Hmmmm. Interesting. -
I would look in the for sale sections here, if you see something interesting, buy it. If it isn't for you, you can put it back up on here and pass it on This is what many people on here do to try out gear.
Great advice! Its a buyer's market at the moment so there are serious bargains to be had. If they don't light your fire, sell them on again and in most cases you should get nigh enough what you paid for them!
Because we're still discussing a subject that has been decided to be locked, still discussing a shop that is aware of the original thread and is dealing with a members purchase and also because we're still going around in the exact same circles as the original thread.
OK.
