£70 including shipping and paypal anywhere in Europe.
This is a brilliant tremolo. My favourite!!!!

Someone is going to get a bargain at this price!

  2.
Please, as much as love Black Ricks that would be a crime to cover up that wood.

    Beautiful mate.
Cheers - but it's supposed to look more like this:-
Shouldn't we be putting this as a sticky or something in salute to Al's incredible work?
I agree!

  3. I have only just seen this thread. Fantastic work.

I had a rick-inspired home build, made by a friend:-

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/81724272@N00/234239140/

I have some similar build diary pics (somewhere).

I also wanted it black - but he was very reluctant to have paint over the wood!!!

I may yet do it one day - I wouldn't tell him I'd done it though.

If I were capable of doing this, I'd build one with chequered binding, horseshoe and toaster pickups, full width inlays an, yes, probably in black!

  4. If I were going to build "replica" Ricky's I certainly use checkered binding and I'd also feature horseshoe and toaster pickups, vintage tone selector and stereo outputs.

    That'd be one helluva bass.

The deal on this beauty fell through unfortunately, so up for sale again just in time for Xmas :)

    Cheers, Si
Don't tempt me Satan!

(I am saving up for Taurus 3 pedals, and haven't got very far!)

  6.
I always heard a lot of Hatfield and the North as a large influence for the likes of Gong/Steve Hillage, more with the guitar though.
Well, they were all part of the same family tree! No? So that is a family resemblance!

Hillage had been in Uriel with Hatfield's keyboard player Dave Stewart (who subsequently played on Hillage's Fish Rising), and Pip Pyle was Gong's drummer on Camembert Electrique.

  7.
Also along similar lines to early Soft Machine
Definitely! You can be sure, in his use of fuzz, Sinclair was heavily influenced by the late fuzz-bass hero Hugh Hopper.

Have you heard Hughscore? Their "Delta Flora" is a classic.

  8.
There's a definite Frank Zappa's influence in this music, I dig it, wonder why I had never heard of them, being a very avid Zappa fan.

Thanks for the link, I shall now investigate their music to find out more.
As a Zappa fan, you should be aware of The Wizards of Twiddly. Are you?

  9.
How does that bit of lore go?

I thought the Q-Tron was the updated Mu-Tron, given that it was designed by Mike Beigel?
I don't remember where I read it. Perhaps from before the Q-Tron - although I doubt that as (according to Wikipedia Biegel) was commisssioned in 1995.

I know that, after having enjoyed playing with the Mutron III, unable to find one in the UK at a reasonable price, what I read prompted me to search for an affordable AF-9 for many months - eventually picking one up in 2003. Maybe the article was hokey. I dunno.

  10.
So I finally took the plunge and bought a vintage Musitronics Mu-Tron III as I wanted to find out if they really are the holy grail when it comes to envelope filters. I had a rehearsal last night and used the pedal for the first time and wow what a sound! It is the wettest, dirtiest and funkiest filter that I have ever used. I had the pedal modded by L-Sound so that it is now true bypass and they also re-calibrated it which I understand make it sound better.

I have tried a lot of other filters and the 'tron certainly gets me the sound that I have always been after from a filter. If anyone is going through the dilemma that I was over these legendary pedals then take the plunge and buy one - you wont be disappointed.
I guess you are referring to the modern "replica" of the Mutron? If so, there are snobs who thumb their noses at them (and the Maxon AF-9 is allegedly the true descendent), but I have played with one and thought it amazing!

I also have an AF-9 - it's pretty cool, but I actually prefer my Boss AW-2.

    Trust only your own ears!

The session starts at around 24 mins.

Fast forward to 38mins for the fuzz shredding!!!!

And if you've not yet discovered Hatfield and the North - now you have! Circa 18974, they're a peculiar blend of pop, jazz, prog and general English quirkiness.

  12.
Tell me about it!
I had to remove a listing on ebay for a 330 copy three times, even after just showing a close-up photo of it's toaster pickup! The third time had no photos at all, but JH also strongly objected to the use of 'copy of... Weller, Townsend, McGuinn & Lennon' in the title description! :)
He even sent me a cease & desist message, calling me a counterfeiter & describing my actions as 'sneaky' & 'cynical'. :)
If he only put all that energy into building guitars - there'd be a lot more Ricks about and the prices of the genuine articles would be much more reasonable (and then there'd be less incentive for the copyists to try to push their "replicas"...)

  13.
It all seemed a little odd, given that JH has been harassing Hipshot for using the same footprint for their replacement bridge. :)
He's certainly a little odd in this respect. And in terms of running a company capable of churning out instruments in decent quantities these days.

That said, he is still the same lovely guy who spent a couple of hours of his own time giving me a guided tour of the Snata Ana plant and regaling me with stories of Lemmy and the like.
