  1. Theres a cheap(ish) second hand one on Coda Music for about £800. Alas ive solved the issue, the epiphone bass has departed and been replaced with an Ashdown MAG 4x10 (straight swap) and they have offered to try n sell the BFC for me which will fund a 1x15 for the bottom. Funnily enough i had this exact setup years ago but sold it all as i wasnt playing n moving into an apartment with me mrs...we split years ago n so it goes ive now come fukll circle! If anyone knows anywhere thats still stocking the MAG gear with the OLD grill styles let me know, im after a 1x15 but HATE the new ashdown grills (i know its petty but its the way i am haha)

  2. Money is REALLY tight at the mo, thats why i bought this cab initially, it was cheaper than the Ashdown 4X10 i was looking at, theres a Marshall dynamic bass system 7152 400W cab on ebay thats quite cheap n they wil courier it for £40. Thing is i do have the BFC and also an Epiphone LP Std Bass that i want rid off so i might just go to the local music shop n see what they'll give me for them and use that against a new cab. Not havin much gear luck at the mo!

  3. Ive just looked at the SPEAKON efforts on ebay. That is what im using at the moment. Its a Speakon connector that goes into the cab (turns and locks) then a single Jack that goes into the amp. So you think the cab may need rewiring to work with a 'normal' bass head?

  4. cheers for the reply peeps. Seems my problem maybe more serious. I use a TE BFC cab (1x15 bottom n 4x10 top all in one cab). Anyways, without previously noticing (only used it twice) it seems only the 15'' is working. Ive started a thread in the Amps section for recommendations. Ta

  5. Hi, they were intended for Bi amping but there is definately only one input socket on the cab, its like a big chunky locking pin, possibly the 4 pole you mentioned. Ill have a sneaky peak behind the input panel to see if theres anything obvious and if not ill have to lug all 87kg of it to an amp tech

  6. Cheers for the reply. Im actually in Bolton. There is just one lead that comes from the cab, a kind of ''turn n lock'' pin with one jack to the amp. I assumed it was just a loose connection because there isnt even a hiss or anything from the 4X10's. My main concern was that my head just couldnt power the cab (the cab is 1000w) but i thought they would at LEAST make some sort of noise. Ill have a drive up to the studio where i keep it later armed with a screwdriver n solder iron see if i can see any loose wires. Cheers

  7. First off im totally useless when it comes to amps n cabs. Anyway i got what i thought was a bargain TE BFC cab off ebay. However, i noticed now that only the 1x15 is working and there is absolutely no noise form the 4x10's. I know im using a very underpowered head (Ashdown MAG 300) so i know im not doing the cab justice but it was very cheap. Would the head im using be the cause of this or does (like i assume) it sound like there maybe a loose connection to the 4x10 part of the cab. As i say im fairly amatuer on back line stuff so plain english answers would be very much appreciated.

  8. Also while im on the topic, has anyone ever played flatwounds with a pick? I play 90% of my stuff with a pick and was wondering if flats would help me get that even bassier tone without cutting out the sustain too much

  9. Ive always used Rotosound Rounds (45-105) but recently had a bit of a prob in the rehearsal room. I like to play my bass VERY bassy, i even want the G & D string to sound deep. Anyway, after much messing around i seem to have nailed the sound..BUT...everything sounds sweet on the A & E strings but when i go up top for some fills or mini riffs the sound kinda gets lost. I dont think its the height of the pups or anything because they seem fine. I think its just i have my sound SO bassy that the upper notes get lost. I was wondering what changing to a heavy gauage (50 - 110) would do to the sound, anyone done this switch before have any opinions?

  10. Hi,

Newbiw here. Just purchased a 2nd hand Burns Bison reissue Bass. It clearly needs a good set up (intonation, string height etc) and there is a slight buzz so maybe a truss rod tweak. Anyone recommend any good luthiers in the Manchester/north west area? Ive been quoted £35 at a luthiers based in PMT Music Shop in Mancheser and theirs a guy called Phil Hartley who has a website based in Bolton. Anyone any experiences of these or know any others they could recommend?

    Thanks,

  11. Hello, long time reader first time poster. I have an issue in that i cant decide what to do. I currently play an Epiphone LP Standard bass in my indie/rock band. I love the sound but sometimes it can be a bit too ''boomy''. I run it through an Ashdown MAG 600 head and a Trace Elliot BFC cab (it was dirt cheap so i bought it haha). The local guitar shop has a used Burns Bison in so i had a go and was quite impressed, not as ''deep'' as the Epi but it was through a small amp. Its on sale at £300 and they have offered me £200 for my Epi and Epi hardcase. For the sound im after (i play with a pick) is kinda deep, smooth and warm (we play Stone Roses etc). I hate ANY punch sound to my bass playin, i even like the high notes to sound ''bassy''. So really my question is what are peoples opinions of this bass and would you swap given the info i have told you. Many thanks in advance
