1. I'm not sure what the fuss is about. Eden Nemesis stuff is built in China and no-one even mentions it when discussing China manufacture. Clearly their QC is top notch, so it's obvious that as long as the QC is kept up-to-scratch, the components are sourced wisely (i.e. don't go cost-cutting like Gibson did with Trace) and the contract manufacturer is kept on a tight leash everything will be OK. My experience in my day job sees contact with Chinese CEMs all day long, apart from a few stupid things here and there (which everyone else is also capable of) they are no different from UK, continental European or American manufacturers. Some of our bigger Chinese customers have stricter QA and QC than their UK parent companies.

  2.
Been rehearsing with a covers band for a few weeks now and whilst I'm getting by OK with my Line 6 Lowdown Studio 110 in rehearsals, it looks like I'm going to have to get something with a bit more grunt for gigs.

I tried out an Ashdown EB180-15, liked the sound and considered going for the MAG 300watt version until I clocked the new Trace Elliot 715 combo. I've always thought about treating myself to some TE gear, but never too seriously until now.

I like the features in the new 715 - particularly the 7-band graphic, tweeter, built-in compression and the relatively portable cabinet size. However, as the only reviews I've been able to track down seem to be for the older 715 which has a larger cabinet and probably pre-dates Peavey's current ownership of TE, I'd be Interested to hear any views on the current 715 or any suggestions for alternatives within the same budget (up to £550).
Not had a chance to play any of the new stuff myself yet, but by all accounts the 715 is the little brother and has had mixed reviews. However, if you like it and get the tone you want, buy it! I'm quite tempted to try it out with the idea for it to become my rig for my function band.

  3.
Ok.. so here's the thing...

I've played bass for quite some time... a purist at heart... 4 strings, 1 lead and an amp... no fuss... setup in seconds...

I am now of the opinion that I would like to have a go with a 5 string bass... Just to see what I think of it.

What I'm after is a little advice from you guys... A cheap(ish) yet relatively good quality bass...

What should I look at and how much should I budget? I appreciate there will be plenty of views and I'm open to all of them..

    Cheers in advance....
Have a look HERE coz these are great!

  4.
Just received a hard case from Merton - thought that it would be a simple matter but no, granted it was excellent value for money (was a freebie), excellent communication, delivered on time (and tracking number provided) on a date to suit - it's certainly more than fair to say that Merton's conduct was nothing short of excellent

The problem is the item itself, I had assumed from the description that the case that I was getting an old beat up article that would do as step up from a softbag for my backup bass to live in on the rare occasions that I take it out - but what I got was something rather different, it's an old case but a true beauty that suits my peaveys perfectly, of the fine line that attempts to seperate mojo from damage this if pure 100% uncut mojo (in flashing neon with musical notes dancing around it and a 1920's New Orleans jazz band playing beneath it) - yeah, I know I might be getting a bit OTT about a case but never seen anything that I've connected with before and then one for free knocks on my door!

So needless to say, my simple plans are in a mess - I was quite happy with my Hiscox case but now I have no choice but to let it gather dust and only get let out for the odd backup duty

Merton - I hope that you're happy with the chaos you've caused!

    P.S. Thanks a plenty!
Haha, nice! Glad you like it, may it serve you proud in the years to come :)

  5.
PU's arrived promptly this morning in good condition. I am busy for next week or two so will not be fitting them for a while. I will report back the results later in case anyone is interested.

Is there any official "feedback" rating system on basschat?

    Mike
Hi Mike - head to the "feedback" section, a couple below of forums (forii??) this forum :)

And when you've fitted them bring yer bass over so I can have a butchers!

  6.
im a student in guildford, any chance you can deliver for petrol? none of my housemates drive
Would love to say yes but they wouldn't fit in my car even one at a time
Also, slightly more confusing is the lack of replacements, which were due this weekend but have been delayed til January. So it's all a bit of a pisser at the mo hence why I haven't bumped for ages :)
Sorry dude, will keep you posted tho!

  7.
It was really good to meet up with you Merton; thanks for sorting it out so quickly! Look forward to seeing you again at some point soon, hopefully with that Status Groove 5 tucked under your arm :)

    Cheers

    Nik
Indeedy - next time it shall not be the car park of Tesco's followed by the car park of a pub! (Hope the lunch was OK btw!)

  8. Nice baffle decor!

Trace speakers normally have a sticky sealing stuff, kinda foamy. It'll just be that the speaker has been held so tightly against that for almost 20 years now (probably) that it's well and truly stuck. I had similar fun with a Trace combo with a 15" speaker. Perseverance I'm afraid, and a sharp knife or screwdriver plus careful wedging :)

  9.
Kingston! I'm not bloody surprised. If my parents had called me Kingston I wouldn't have replied either!
Sounds like you need to get the Book of Common Rabbit Names (Penguin) and read them out one by one until he responds :)
Or perhaps we should have a Basschat poll?
    Chris
Good idea. Just don't let the BBC decide

  10.
Big Guns!!!

Don't mind a bit of skid row every now and again when I need my hard rock fix. But I way prefer def leppard!
Hooray! Big cheer for 80s mullet rock and Def Leppard!

Might have to go dig out some Skid Row now though, haven't listened to them for donkeys years

  11. 2x 10" 100W 16 ohm speakers from my Trace 2103H cabinet. Replaced last month becasue I thought one was blown, but:

    1) I can't remember which one
    2) I'm not convinced it ever was the problem as the rattle is still there after all and is a loose handle (search Amps and Cabs for the thread history, yes I'm a tit but I thought I'd checked them)

Anythoo, I prefer the Eminence speakers that are in the cab now and these are getting in the way in my new pad.

Since one is still definitely OK and I think the other one is too I figured I'd flog 2 for the price of one cheap one, then you may be lucky or you may be REALLY lucky!

    £17.50 for the pair

They're heavy so will cost about a tenner to ship I think.

  12.
Hi, I've just bough an Eden Time Traveller (it's lurvly) and I want to get a case for it (gig bag style rather than a rack)

Any suggestions where I can get one? I'm not bothered if it's eden or not as long as it fits - i don't really know where to start looking.

    it's dimensions are 13"W x 3.5"H x 12"D

Eden make them - but US only and they have none in stock Eden Accesories

    Thanks
What about those Maplin case things everyone was one about a month or so back? I think they'd fit.

Here: Maplin Aluminium Case with shoulder strap!

  13. Well I've sold a couple of bits now, selling or giving away a couple more, time to tell me how much of an ass I am!
