Well, that was my first Bass Bash but it won't be the last! Thanks to everyone for making me feel so welcome - you couldn't wish to meet a friendlier bunch of people, and I got to see and play some fantastic basses too. Many thanks to @scrumpymike, Mrs Scrumpy, and everyone else involved in organizing/ catering. The crumble alone was worth a trip down the M5!

Sorry to hear that @Andyjr1515 - was looking forward to meeting you. Hope you don't succumb and that MrsAndy is feeling better soon.

Not sure whether I'm in the 14 or not - I'm happy to pay upfront.

Squier Paranormal Rascal bass, bought in July from PMT in Bristol, and in 'as new' condition. It was a bit of an impulse buy because I thought I wanted a cheaper bass for gigs where it might get damaged. But although it's a great bass (see LowEnd Lobster's review on YouTube) I just find myself reaching for my existing basses. Strap not included, no case. I'm in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, and prefer collection, but am happy to travel a reasonable distance to deliver/ meet up. Will be heading to the SW Bass Bash in October so that might be an opportunity to meet. Sorry but I won't post/ courier. I'm having a bit of a 'thinning the herd' exercise, so feel free to come and try more than one if you fancy! Not really looking for trades, but no harm asking! Short or medium scale only though. [Edited to remove reference to La Bella strings, as I now want to put these on another bass, so it will come with the original roundwounds, and to lower price accordingly.]

Nordstrand Acinonyx v.1 in Surf Green. In generally very good condition: there are some faint scratches on the pickguard, and two thin cracks in the lacquer around the neck pocket - I've tried to photograph them all. The cracks around the neck pocket were there when I bought it (I'm the 2nd owner) over 2 years ago, and they haven't changed since then. I love this bass - it's super light with a slim, fast neck, and an amazing vintage sound (currently strung with La Bella DTFs). I never thought I'd want to sell it but the band I played it in has split up, and it's not getting used, sadly. Strap not included (and I have now replaced the straplocks with the original buttons); no case. Comes with Nordy mute. I'm in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, and prefer collection, but am happy to travel a reasonable distance to deliver/ meet up. Sorry but I won't post/ courier. Not really looking for trades, but no harm asking! Short or medium scale only though.

Bass Lesson To Help With Finger Speed
Kateplaysbass replied to greghagger's topic in Theory and Technique
Only just come across this and wanted to say thanks - this is definitely something I need to look at because although I use alternate fingers for medium fast tempos, when things get really fast I tend to use a single finger and a more percussive stroke, which I know isn't right! The (slightly obscure) track that I'm currently struggling with because it has a couple of fast sixteenth note passages is East Side Story by Bob Seger. Learning it more for fun than anything else since I'm not sure I'll ever persuade a band to add it to the setlist, but it's a great bass line!- 2 replies

Bought in January 2022 from PMT. Very light and easy to move around. Has been taken care of, and apart from a few small scuffs shown on the photos, is basically in 'as new' condition. Great little cab, only selling because I've upgraded to a pair of ABMs. I'm in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, and prefer collection, but am happy to travel a reasonable distance to deliver/ meet up. Will be heading to the SW Bass Bash in October so that might be an opportunity to meet. Sorry but I won't post/ courier.

Eastwood Airline Map bass, 18 months old. Bought from Eastwood as B stock; there is an imperfection to the finish on the neck, plus a ding to the neck, as seen in the photos. Because of where they are, they're hardly noticeable, and don't affect the playability. Otherwise, it's as new - it's had only light playing and has never been gigged. Comes with custom Airline strap and padded Eastwood gig bag. Strung with rounds. This is definitely the coolest looking bass I own, and it sounds great too, but it doesn't really fit with either of my bands so hard to justify keeping it. I'm in! Looking forward to it!

That was a great read @Andyjr1515! As someone who barely has the patience to assemble a Billy bookcase, I'm in awe at the skill and attention to detail.

It is indeed. Gorgeous bass - feel very lucky to own it.

Good morning fellow BC-ers! Slightly nervous about this as I've not shared anything before, but here's a few photos from my band Mills of Sion's gig at the Sociable Beer Company in Worcester last night. I'm playing my @Andyjr1515custom short scale that I bought from @scrumpymike earlier this year. It's such a gorgeous bass (one guy came to talk to me at the end to say exactly that!) and it's all I use for this band now. We had a fantastic night - great venue with friendly helpful staff, and a really good crowd. Would definitely recommend to anyone else gigging in this area.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Kateplaysbass replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm potentially interested as well, though the nut width is a bit of a concern. Does anyone know how much it weighs? I'm slightly regretting my Rascal purchase mostly because of the weight, plus I think it's a bit ugly, whereas these Saffires are quite attractive. -
Brilliant, thanks. Knew he'd promised to do one, but didn't realize it had landed already. Will go and have a watch!
-
How do they sound? Assuming you've put them on yet! And what length did you go for? I was wondering if the Mustang ones would work, but not got as far as actually measuring the string length yet!
-
I just bought one yesterday - slight impulse purchase whilst I was killing time in Bristol before seeing The Who! First impressions are good - though it is heavy. Had to go for the black, as apparently the Sherwood green is pretty much unobtainable. I'll probably swap the strings out for flats - anyone tried anything apart from Fenders? I normally go for La Bellas, but I wonder if they might be a little too vintage-sounding on this? I think this is going to be my go-to bass for gigs with the covers band where you're a bit worried about drunk people tripping over your gear, so it needs to have a fairly versatile sound.
-
Really interested in this idea, thanks. Have you got/ heard these pickups? I'd like to know a bit more about how they sound.
-
So as well as the gorgeous custom short scale, I have a few other shorties and would be happy to bring any that people want to try (subject to still having them - a couple of these are up for sale!): Maruszczyk Jake 4P Spector Bantam Atelier Baby Z PJ Eastwood Airline Map Nordstrand Acinonyx Amp-wise, it's Ashdown all the way - CTM 30 and ABM300, with 1x15 and 2x10 cabs. I'd be interested in seeing the Lakland Duck Dunn 😀

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Kateplaysbass replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
I have one, though it's been defretted. I play it very rarely - picked it up on a whim because I thought I ought to have a short scale fretless and I've always liked BC instruments, but in practice I don't play fretless very often. The body is tiny - feels a bit like a toy - but the sound is huge by comparison. Strung with flats, it is great for a vintage sound. The placing of the strap button is bizarre and would probably annoy me more if I was playing it for more than a song or two at a time, but as I'm not, I haven't bothered thinking about workarounds. -
Better late than never.....I bought a custom short scale from Mike a few weeks ago. Picked it up in person and got a very warm welcome from him and Mrs Scrumpy. Great communication prior to that, and a fantastic bass as well. Highly recommended.
-
Thanks Mike - I've only just discovered this part of the forum. The bass is fantastic - it gets a big thumbs up from the rest of the band, and they've heard me play, ahem, quite a few basses! See you in October!
-
Put my name down! I might bring along a certain custom build short scale 😉 Love it, by the way!

I've got a Spector Bantam 4 (short scale) which in many ways is a great bass, but somehow I've never fallen in love with the sound. Pretty sure this is because the stock pickups (EMG DCs) are just not right for the sound I like and the kind of music I play. Having done a bit of research, I think I'd be better off with EMG CS / CSX, because I like a warm, bassy sound. Does that sound right? And if so, I have a few questions. What's the difference between CS and CSX? Should I replace both, or keep one of the DCs for more tonal variation? If the latter, which position should I put the CS in? (I say I, but it is not going to be me actually doing it 😉). How big a job is it? They are the same size, so I'm hoping fairly straightforward? Do I need to worry about whether it is compatible with the preamp (EMG BTC)? Anything else I should know/ have thought of? Apologies for the very basic questions - I'm fairly new to all of this!
