1. Up for sale is my mate Jerry's rare, three colour sunburst, bass, with highly figured maple front and back, gold hardware, special edition logo on rear of headstock and a neck mounting plate confirming it is number 315 of 500 worldwide – that’s a pretty limited edition.

Asking £1250 for it – which is pretty reasonable as even an ordinary new American Standard Sunburst Precision will set you back about £1100.This is up for sale, not for part exchanges, swaps or trades.

Info on this model:-
1996 marked the 50th Anniversary of the Fender company (1946-1996), in celebration Fender produced a limited edition anniversary series of the following instruments

50th American Standard Jazz Bass (500)
50th American Standard Jazz Bass V String (500)
50th American Standard Stratocaster (2,500)
50th American Standard Stratocaster Left Handed (250)
50th American Standard Telecaster (1,250)

Text from the 1996 Fender press release:
Exclusive features on these once in a lifetime instruments include:
Gold plated American Standard hardware, Highly figured maple veneer top and back,
Antique Sunburst finish, Vintage pickups and electronics, White plastic parts,

In addition, each model is equipped with a specially engraved neck mounting plate with the Fender 50th Anniversary logo and limited edition serial numbering (i.e., 1 of 2,500).
A definite must for every collection!

The P bass has the tags, cleaning cloth, truss rod adjuster, owners manual, specifications booklet, guitar case keys, (also a pair of gold plated Schaller Strap Lock fittings, as the guitar comes with gold straplock buttons on it).
It is in the correct black tolex Fender logo'd rectangular case
It is in mint condition and, aside from its rarity, is a really excellent bass to play, with a lovely neck, through body stringing, and a great tone – it has the full, deep solid sound that I have always found with good quality Precisions.

Please Email me with any queries or ring/text 0778 070 6991 - the bass is in Farnworth Near Bolton, Lancs.

I can't get photos uploaded to the Basschat site - have tried the loader several times bt no joy, so I've put them on Photobucket - here's a link to all the pics:-

2. OK - to give more info - the PC is running XP home, 1 gig Ram, Celeron R 2.6 Ghz processor. I'd probsbly be best with loops & beats on the drums - I have no experience of VST's or any PC based recording.

Budget wise I'd like to keep it low cost to see how I go on initially.

For inputs, most I would need would be 2 simultaneously. That would be vocal & guitar at one go. Otherwise Ijust want to put one track/instrument/vocal at a time in.
I'd like to be able to put 2 x line levels in at once if need be.
Outputs - just to be able to hear stereo playback or to monitor both channels as recording them - but to be able to hear the drum track .
Would I need a "Better" sound card - or is the line out OK to hear the recordings if I run them into an external amp & decent speakers? Cheers, Geoff

3. I'm finally looking at setting up to be able to do demos of songs - - I have a pC that isn't in use at the moment so thought i could "dedicate" that one.

Now i need to sort an audio interface & to get the DAW/software - a guy i know has a Lexicon Alpha, and it comes with Cubase. I've looked at these & they are a very good (or it that "Cheap" ) price.

Well what opinions guys?

What is a decent interface - & which software (and do they have built in drums?) - is it purely personal choice, or are some of them "not good"?

Any help much appreciated ,

Cheers,

Geoff

4. SOLD ON PRELOVED [s] Here's my Bose L1 Model 1 Personal Audio System up for sale with a B1 Bass speaker Module.

The system is complete with the mains lead & the Bass B1 Bose speakon connector lead, soft Bose covers and the original packaging & boxes, plus there are the manuals and the Remote Control & its 5 metre lead. It is PAT tested until May 2013.

The equipment is all in excellent condition with just a couple of scuff marks on the B1 bass speaker and the Powerstand which you get in use. It’s just over two years old & I got it new. I was playing in clubs and pubs with the Bose system, and it is ideal for venues of up to 350 (see the Bose website below for specifications & loads of information.)

I'm now playing with a band who have their own large PA, or we are using house systems & I realised that I’ve only used it 4 times this year, so it’s got to go.

I’m sure you have seen and heard these awesome systems – they really are great pieces of kit. They have an inbuilt four channel mixer & a 2 x 250 watt amplifier.

The remote control gives you instant control over two of the channels with overall/master volume, plus two individual volume, treble, mid & bass controls which you can mount on your mic stand so you can control your sound “on the fly” as you perform. [/s]

5. Still got my HH MA100 PA head - great multi purpose 100w head - used it for guitar, PA, & of course, bass - played in a band a while back with this as the amp head & a 4 x 12" angled Marshall style cabinet - workd really well.

I love the sound of them & the "Thump & Hiss2 when they come on - and heck yeah - the green glow is both cool & practical for onstage use..

Had it since the 70's when I go it with 2 PA 2 x 12" cabinets - we had the best PA for miles around & it's done LOADS of gigs.

Ii've also got a little 1 x 12" HH cabinet as a spare/extension/monitor speaker - currently fitted with a10" 70watt speaker with a "sleeve"/wooden ring to make the 10" fit in the 12" cabinet cut out........

6. Good evening!
Well I have got the new Celestion BL10-100's and fitted them to the old front ported Ashdown 210T (slim) cabinet, and moved the Ashdown Blueline 100 watt speakers back into their Ashdown 210T (Deep) cabinet.

The result is good - the new Celestions are clear, and loud - pretty much equivalent to the Blueline 100's. They are slightly smaller, so I've used two of the four original screw holes, and drilled another two to accommodate the (maybe) 4mm smaller size. The Celestions are about 750 grammes heavier than the Bluelines, so no big change there.

Thesound is similar too - whereas the old SICA spakers now sound very dull/woolly and quite a bit quieter for the same wasttage -( the old ones were rated 81Db/Watt/Metre, the new ones 96 Db/Watt/Metre).

I know these are a cheap(er) speaker, but that is a consideration to me, as is the weight.

"When I put both cabinets on I get a great sound (to my ears, anyway), individually they are OK, with the deeper cabinet having the edge on a better" sound.

It isn't a truly deep, thunderous sound - an element of "honk" is there, but it is a big improvement.

Thanks to all who posted on this topic,

Cheers,

Stompbox

B)

7. OK - I've swapped them over - the newer "Blueline" speaker chassis are clearly louder, so they must have a greater ensitivity, and the old SICA ones do sound better now they are in the "Deep" cabinet, so I think I wll order a pair of the Celestion BL10-100's and see which cabinet I wind up using & using them in.

I guess I'll retire the old SICA drivers.

I'll post again as and when I get the new speakers & fit them.....

8. [sup]OK - well i'm going to take an "empirical" approach to this[/sup]

[sup]I'm going to swap the speakers from the newer cab to the older cab & see if the improvement transfers. [/sup]

[sup]The cabinets are not identical - the newer is the 210T deep cab with twin rear ports, the older is a slot front ported compact cabinet.[/sup]

[sup]The speakers from the newer cab are Ashdown "blue cone" speakers that weigh only a mere 2.3 kilos. Labelled "Blueline" HK02046 100 watt 16ohm driver with 1 3/4 " coils that appear to e very similar to the Celestion BL10-100 (?BL= Blueline????).[/sup]

[sup]So I'll be busy unscrewing/soldering etc.[/sup]

[sup]I'll post again when I see if the improved sound transfers or whether the deep cab makes the difference.... who knows, maybe the older tired speakers in the deep cab will get a new lease of life & the newer, perhaps more sensitive ones may balance out in the smaller cabinet....[/sup]

[sup] [/sup]

9. Hey thanks for that LawrenceH - I would be putting around 150/175 watts in - not the max total rating of 400, that's for sure.

Celestion also do a 100watt version, I've just found, so that may be better, running them at around 2/3 of their rating, rather then under driving them?

The existing 10's have had a lot of use for quite a long period of time, and may be" tired", or the new r MAG 210T cabinet may just have better spec speakers....
