1. cheers Marco! it is indeed a wonderful instrument, just can't justify such a valuable backup at the moment!
 2. interesting thread, been doing a lot of the same thinking myself, my 2 cents: - ultimately it depends what you're needs are. if you're a session player who needs to nail specific tones then you're requirements are very different to someone who plays in an original material band and needs to have a more 'signature' tone. my thoughts are that if you have a instrument that does 'old school', one that does 'modern', and a fretless then you'll be able to cover most tones fairly well. - some people just like having more basses, and thats totally cool and also a very personal thing. marcus miller says that back in the day he didn't want to carry 3 basses around, just concentrate on 1 instrument because most of the players he admired just played 1 instrument. some of the session guys have a warehouse somewhere full of basses. ultimately whatever makes you happy, and being happy to be in a permanent state limbo is cool too. for me, it's what i do for a living, i love playing my main bass (which has 6 year old flats on it), it feels like me and i'm happy. there's a lot to be said for knowing one instrument warts an all. check out the 'rig rundown' things on youtube, particularly the will lee, jimmy earl and other american tv guys - their takes on it are all varied and very interesting. all the best! 3. bit of a bump, if anyone has a semi hollow guitar of similar value they'd like to trade?
 4. Hi everyone, Up for sale is my Dingwall Super J 4 string in natural finish for what I believe to be a reasonable FINAL DROP TO £1500. I'm sure you all know what these basses do, sound wise it's very versatile - the pickup selector between series/parallel is particularly useful. The overall quality of the instrument is second to none. The condition is excellent. Specs:

swamp ash body with tone chambers
natural finish
Maple neck - satin finish
maple fretboard - 34.25" - 32" scale
Pearl Blocks
Novax® Fanned -Fret System™
FD4 pickups (but also chambered to accommodate a P style pickup if desired)
passive Preamp - Volume, Pickup selector (bridge/both series/both parallel/neck), tone
Chrome Custom Bridge
Chrome Hipshot ultralight tuners
weight 7lbs 7oz/3.4kg
Original gig bag, spec card and tools
I'm selling because I'm moving more and more onto upright, and need a travel bass for touring. Also I just think I'm a flat wounds guy - this currently has Elixirs on it but I'll include the stock rounds that came with it. Also comes in the Dingwall branded Levi's gig bag, spare screws for bridge (2 types) and the original Dunlop strap pins. *edit from previous post: after consulting the tech guys at Dingwall (who are suspiciously good at replying by the way!) I've had the neck pickup rewired in series to match the bridge pickup. This has changed the sound to a more 'thunderous' Precision-ish tone, rather than a very mid scooped sound when it was in parallel. This is a very simple job with a soldering iron to redo if you like, but in my opinion has made the (solo'd) neck pickup usable, whereas before I didn't really like it. I can forward on the wiring diagram and correspondence to the buyer for future reference. Any questions please fire 'em at me. Happy to ship at buyers expense. Cheers! Cameron ps. bit nervous about not having a backup, so could be open to a partial trade, something Precisiony with around a grand my way would be ideal - feel free to pm

 6. Hi everyone, the great 'raise funds for a new bow' quest continues! Here we have a studio Projects valve preamp unit, official blurb here: http://www.studiopro...a.com/vtb1.html Very flexible preamp, can be used to provide phantom power/give valve warmth to live or recorded instruments, simple to use and solid. I used it for warming up and slightly overdriving a flat wound strung P bass, and also for powering a double bass mic while using the high pass filter + polarity reverse to help control feedback when necessary. It has lived in its box or on a pedal board all its life so in very good condition. Has velcro on the bottom but this can be soaked off properly and original rubber feet reattached if you'd prefer. Comes in box with booklets and original PSU. All questions welcome! Cheers, Cameron
