1.
Hi, doing a cheap(ish) p-bass rebuild myself and was interested to know weather the wiring was re-soldered as you found it, or did you reposition any of the wires/capacitor, as the wiring on my p-bass seems to be totally different. Thanks, Rob.
Hi Rob,
Re-soldered as was, nothing changed but the brown wire soldered to the copper foil is my addition. I haven't got a neck yet, so not able to try it with strings but seems to work OK.
How different can your's be? If mine doesn't sound right I'll probably try this: Fender '57 P bass which I think the only difference is the way the cap is wired in.

Good luck,
John

2. One of the many great guys here, I put a wanted ad for some P bass knobs & Rich came to the rescue, posted them straight away & was happy for me to send a donation to the forum funds, no payment required.

I'd be very happy to return the favour if the occasion arises, it's the little things that make this such a fantastic place.

Cheers Rich = great guy, nice knobs :) !

3.
Ok, I think now we can put the matter to rest as Mr. Anonimous has read this message and made the correct amends, as per the message below:

Thank You, Anonimous

That means a whole lot to me. Enjoy the rest of the week.

Cheers

Fran

Matter is now put right, let's close the book on this one. Cheers
Everybody loves a happy ending - nice one Mr Anonymous - 3 cheers - - -

4. It may not suit everyone but I reckon the Ashdown Little Bastard is superb. Exactly that old school valve sound I was looking for that you just can't get out of solid state IMO. It's so straightforward, no need messing with tones, effects, emulators, pods, pedals or whatever, set the controls to 12 o'clock - plug in & play. The 'Bass Shift' switch is all you need to go from old school to modern.

Cheers,
John

5.
Personally I think it is all the more important to show gratitude if it is a gift. 'Do as you would be done by' and all that.

I believe the feedback thing is great - one of the many HUGE plus points of Basschat is that it really is a community and I feel I can deal with pretty well anyone without feeling anxious about the outcome.
As above ^^

I'm still a newcomer here & agree with just about all the comments on this so far, it's just bad manners - I was dragged up proper like - politeness & manners cost nothing but speak a fortune about an individual's character IMHO.

I know I'm one of the *old's kool* (best pun on words I've seen for ages) but it's not an age thing although I have to admit the general lack of manners & common decency is perhaps a sign of the times.

The forum community spirit is great here, I've already benefited from the generosity of a few members & in return have happily sent small donations to help keep this place running - for every sale I've made + for every 'gift' received.

Feedback matters too, especially to encourage new members + just about everybody uses ebay these days & it has sort of become a way of at least making a superficial judgment on a complete stranger!

Cheers all,
John (Grumpy old gits rule OK)

6.
Apparently they've just changed, and some of the lines are now rebranded D'Addario Chromes.
I have a set of the 'New' Flats (in the Black/Green pack) 9050ML Stainless I bought because they were cheap + on next day delivery when I was in a hurry :)
Most often I get GHS strings from the USA, 1/2 the price they are here, but that takes a week or so without Iceland's fallout!

Anyway the Fenders felt a little 'edgy' at first but soon settled in & now I'm very pleased with them on my Frank Bello, it's got great P bass sounds on the neck pup & a real J growl on the bridge, (high output passive SD 1/4lbs). They feel mid-range tension wise, not floppy or stiff, (Goldilocks moment), just right

There's no markings on the pack/inner bag other than Fender & Made in USA.

Cheers,
John

7.
I bought a fernandes P/J copy from a Japanese shop online and since it's come in I can't put it down. Its knobs are set up vol/tone/tone. The issue I have is that if I roll the P pickup's tone knob above, say, 3/4, there is a steep drop in volume. Before that it's fine and actually puts out a fair amount. I know the dealer had replaced the pots with MIJ ones and the J pickup with a Lindy, and yet the J knob works fine. Any ideas?
I'd have a word with the dealer who replaced the pots, seems like a wiring problem to me. I had a quick look through the Fender wiring diagrams but couldn't see any with the vol/tone/tone config you describe. Have a search through above link if you're competent in wiring yourself, or else - back to the dealer :)

Good luck,
John

8. I'm told it's 40mm at nut, 35.5" scale & between 7-8 lbs not a lot of info about on these:

Cheers

Edit; I have more pictures from the seller if you're interested.

Ashdown Little Bastard 30w valve amp...
Anybody Got One?
Have seen the Brochure ...What They like?... Are They LOUD?...are they on General Sale or just Limited Edition?
Cheers!
As it happens  I have number one of the handmade 'Limited Edition' Little Bastards  & a handmade singe 12" cab to go with.

It's bloody marvellous!

11. I reckon at best you could get a Squier Frank Bello for that money, no way a pukka Fender & anything involving Western Union or any other method which involves giving a complete stranger my bank details would put me off 100%.

Best of luck, 'cos the Frank Bello is a tremendous bass :)
Cheers,

12.
Hey John!

Fantastic, looking forward to seeing ths one take shape. If you had the choice, would you go for a Maple fretboard or Rosewood? - I've always liked that 'Hank Marvin' look. Candy Apple + Maple!
Sorry to disappoint mate - but I'm never going to be a skinny dark haired glasses wearing whammy w*nking lookalikey - -

Oh! I see what you mean  :)

TBH I'm not fussy, I have a neck on it's way from another BC'r, which is fretted & rosewood but most important = it's cheap!

I love the one piece maple of my '51P, I love the Bocote on my Skjold, Rosewood varies so much but the chances are on a cheap neck it ain't gonna be great. I shall do my usual toothbrush with Lemon oil & see how it comes up.

Now where's that postman? More bits required!

Cheers Dood,
John

13. My original idea was to put together a cheap fretless, just for fun, I started in about 1965 with a home made bass which at that time I couldn’t afford or get the fretwire for, so just played it without!

1 & 2, The body P style make unknown but seems a decent bit of wood. Stripped & cleaned, polished with Carnauba & copper screening added
3 & 4, Slightly unusual 6 bolt neck plate & screws came with. The hardware, all good enough, especially the bridge, cheap pups & electricals, pots cleaned with servisol + all wiring/soldering tidied up.
5, Earth wire under bridge.
6, Screening under pups + earth wire soldered to copper.
7, Copper under the pots & jack socket all linked with the brown wire.
8, All back together & electrics tested, waiting for a neck.

Edit: Pictures 2,3&5 removed to make space for finished job.

14.
Few new bits to sell!

Having gotten a lovely new Gold neck plate for my bass, I have the Chrome one available. £2 inc shipping

I also have a brand new gold string tree and 18 nice new gold shiny screws left as well. So lets say £2 inc shipping for the new tree and the price of a stamp for the screws?

I have gotten all the new gold parts bar the tuners now, so those with dibs on will be getting their chrome parts soon!

Thank you so much for your patience guys, I'd expected this whole 'upgrade' malarky to go much smoother and quicker - but the results already have been worth waiting for. Look out for bass porn pics soon!
Yes please to the gold screws - PM coming.
Cheers,
John

15.
Hi,

I'm looking for a Fender with this spec:

4 string
Passive
Wide P-neck
P and J pups

Does such a thing exist, please?

Steve

Okay - looks like I'll struggle to find such a thing. How about:

4string
Passive
Wide P-neck
J pups

Basically, a Fender J-bass with a P-neck?

Steve
To answer your original question: Yes such a thing does exist, exactly - Frank Bello Signature bass!
Simples - ticks all your boxes without compromise - unless you don't like black?

16. Frank Bello Bass - if you can find one - suit you sir - Ooh! Frank Bello Signature

17.
OK, I've got a brand new, boxed and unused Bass Pod XT, which I'd like to trade for a Valve Tone box like a Sansamp or similar - I've got the Behringer BDI21, and it's the only sound I need, I just want something a little more upmarket build-wise.

Does this butter anyone's parsnips?

M
Floor or rack?
Edit: To clarify - is the Bass Pod XT a floor pedal box or a rack mounting unit?
Cheers,
John

18. Great guy to deal with  I agreed to buy a case from jay & he held onto it for me until my o/h could meet up & do the deal.
Thanks for all that jay, meeting Kaz as arranged & on time, I haven't got my hands on the case yet but I'm told it's just like new exactly as described.

It was a pleasure to do business with - sorry I couldn't meet you in person - maybe next time :)

Cheers,
John
