Hi guys.Long time no post.Long story short,I was using my Trace Elliot 4x10 cab at the weekend and I could here a rattling, flapping sound. The drive units are Eminence ME10s 100w,which have been in situ for MANY years.Heres what I found....On the TOP 2 drivers, the cones had become separated from the surrounds as in the pics (I've shown just 1 unit, the other was exactly the same). What puzzles me is this, why should just 2 drivers give up like this? The original drivers were replaced together approx 10 years ago. There seems to be some sort of a seam right around the cone at this point, reinforced with what looks like a black shiny substance. The other 2 drivers,I should add,are perfectly OK,and dont seem to have this pronounced 'seam' :) I would welcome any comments guys.Cheers.

Just realised, this should be in Repairs. If someone could oblige.....Thank you.
I'd reckon they have been subjected to some high temperatures, in storage maybe, even in a car/van in the sun? Looks like the cone bond has failed & can only think 'that must have got hot!'

  2.
im eagerly awaiting the delivery of my lb30, and im going to need to invest in a cab to go with it as my main rig is at the practice room. anyone have a good recommendation?

of course i'v looked at the accompanying products from ashdown, but i'v heard mixed reviews about their cabs. ideally i'd like something that doesent sacrifice low end , and handles the tubey growl. so many options :)

    cheers

If you want a small light cab but with all the right sounds the LB112 is well matched with the LB & rated @ 150Watts, you really don't need anything more ~ IMHO

    Cheers,
    John

  3. Perfik :) LB 112 + ABM Mini 48 custom.

I got the 112 with the amp straight from the factory & they're great together, the 12" is well suited to the LB 'valveyness'. I tried a Ashdown 210 with, but that's not my sound.
I just wanted a bit extra  & the 4x8 is a superb little cab.

  4.
Anyone else seen the new Vodafone advert? Saw it last night on tele and had to rewind as theres a big close up of an Ashdown VU powering up... Anyone else spot it?

    11 seconds in...
Yeah saw it once - just caught the Ashdown VU & wondered if it was a Little bastard :) thanks for the link I can now see it ain't

    Cheers

  5. I would be exactly the same! In fact I have a couple of pups that I would like to raise the centre poles on, for the same reason. I think it would help if the pup is quite warm before you try moving the poles. Pushing is definitely safer than knocking, magnets loose their strength when they're banged. I've heard of warming the pole pieces with a soldering iron before pushing but I wouldn't try it on a expensive pup.

    Good luck,
    John

  6.
I like the look of that. Can you get that at B&Q?
I don't know if B&Q do it but most water garden centres have Butyl by the roll - I'm sure they give out 'samples' - that's where mine came from. I just remembered you can request samples of various materials - Google pond liners.

    Cheers,
    John

  7.
There's an Ashdown vertical 2x12 designed to go with this cab, looks pretty good. Is there anyone in the London area that has one of these LB's and wants to meet up to A/B it against my Orange Tiny Terror?
I'd like to - can't promise yet, way things are at home at the moment :) I don't have the 212 BTW but
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/G-L-Bass-guitar-L150...=item5192e8bf52
Whats the thoughts on this one? obviously being a stingray fan has attracted me to this one!
When this was first put on ebay (29/05 I think) it was £699, then suddenly went up another £100 - so I reckon there's at least a £100 discount available there.

  9. I get on best with a Precision neck - actually find the '51P to be dead right for me - so I searched for what was available with a P neck for sure & just maybe a Jazz body for a change.

I found the Fender Frank Bello signature model & even though I'd never heard of the man or his bands I rather fancied one, so when one came up at a good price I grabbed it .

I think it's a great bass & a bit different to most - especially after I've customised it further - with a SD 1/4Lb Jazz to equal the SD P already fitted, a rosewood thumrest & a Hipshot extender. Now it's my *do everything bass*.

Just straight output - no tone controls & no batteries required. High octane - great to drive!

Now I've got serious GAS for a Steve Harris signature P, - & so it goes on :)

  10. Parcel2go.com certainly gets my vote, easy to use website allows you to choose your courier/price, they collect on time & deliver when they say they will. I've used them for speaker cabs, Koi filters, Air Rifles & guitars, to France, Ireland + UK, every time I've been well pleased at the service & the price. Most packages up to 30Kg are standard rate & I usually choose the UPS Next day service - they haven't let me down yet, no damage & no delays.

    Cheers & good luck,
    John

  11.
Cheers guys, will post pics later hopefully! Had a quick blast last night and was very impressed actually louder than i was expecting and simple old school tone! Think im going to love it, my only worry is that I will end up buying the big bastard(427 smallblock) for big gigs! My wife may go slightly mental ;-)
Yep - 100% Old's Kool  I'm also gassing over the 427 - only £2K ono - no way could I justify though
MB1.
...Are these Little Bastards Giggable?.. if youve got a Little (LOUD) Bastard Drummer? :)
    ...What Price range?
...The Local Shop is still awaiting delivery!
Yep - you may need to burn the drummer though

  12.
The matching mini 48 looks great John, where did you get that done? It matches up really well. Very sweet mini rig!
Cheers mate, got the cab a week or two back from MarkyL & did a bit of DIY helped with bits from Ashdown  I'm very happy with  :)

  13.
Gave in to temptation and bought one of the UK made Little Bastards today! Im planning on making a sweet mini rig and will probably get one of the 2x12 or 1x12 cabs to go with it. Havent had chance to plug it in yet but it sure looks beautifully made and oh so sweet. Nice touch having the certificate aswell, mines No. 24. Anyone else in the Little Bastard gang yet? I will report back later when ive have chance to actually play it...
It's about time a few more Little Bastards started making an appearance :) As in my sig: LB112 now sits atop a ABM Mini 48 with custom grill to match, just waiting for the badge

You're gonna love it phatbass787, I reckon the LB112 cab is well suited, personally didn't like the 212 style. Tried a little 210 cab but the 12" has the better voice IMO, the 48s just reinforce & raise the bar, it's a great little setup.

Only others I know of is No.8 down the coast a bit with Mike_M & of course Ben's in Chicago! How's things Ben?

    Cheers,
    John

  14. I've just got a Ashdown ABM Mini 48 cab & it's superb, no lightweight, looking through the rear ports those 8" drivers have got HUGE magnets! Cheers Mark - it's a great little cab, in excellent condition, looks like new but I know they haven't made them for a while, so do 'we' know please how the serial numbers work? I tried a search but couldn't find any info.

    It's 96810303

    Thanks,
    John

  15.
I wish I could hear something - anything, really! Right now I can't hear a flaming thing. Hearing in my left hear has been poor for the last 20 years, apparently because of some intravenous antibiotics I had aged 30. Currently I have an ear infection in my right ear and can hear nothing that side. Result - serious overall deafness. Doctors say the infection is getting better and that the "gunge" (Doctor's phrase, not mine) should eventually clear in the next 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, I'm walking around in my own cotton-woolly world unable to hear normal conversation and finding it really difficult to play the bass. Seriously fed up too.

Sorry - just feeling a bit low today.

    Steve
Hey Steve,
I hope it clears soon for you, that must be a horrible feeling, can't the doctor 'help' clear the gunge?
    Best wishes,
    John
