Don't forget there's a quick preamp mod you can do to engage "+6dB Mode", if you feel you need more oomph from the preamp. Low End Lobster shows it around the 5 min mark in this video.

Does it do anything else apart from increase the input gain?

I've got that one too. Mine came with a gig bag. I see you've put markers on the neck. Good addition. I still get lost down low or high...

Yes mine came with the standard gig bag too.  Decent enough but a tight fit at the headstock with minimal padding there.

The dots are just transfers from Amazon.  Do the job for now but might get them drilled out in due course.

  3. I went ahead and bought an EHB1006.  It is, without doubt, the easiest playing six I have owned.

    What I like:

    • It weighs just 7 lbs!
    • It looks fab: the roasted maple against the grey is uber sexy IMO
    • It sounds fab: the T1 pickups are great and the EQ is very versatile
    • Setup out of the box was perfect
    • The ramp is a nice addition

    What I don't like:

    • QC issues: grey finish missed in a couple of less obvious spots (neck bolt recess, tint patch under the bridge)
    • As many people have said, the rear strap position combined with the wedge shape angles the neck away from the hand, forcing you to twist your wrist.  I have added a second button below the bridge (near the jack) and it has completely transformed how the bass plays.
    • The luminlay dots are rubbish: even if you charge them with a torch you're lucky if they last twenty minutes, and when they fade you can't see anything on a darkened stage
    • The plastic knobs are tacky: decent metal ones on order.

I've just taken a risk and ordered a Mono Vertigo guitar bag as it should fit my Leduc Headless, which is around 105cm long.  Ill let you know if it fits, but I imagine your ibby will be a similar length?

Thanks @Kev.  Yes, the EHB is about the same.

I don't know why Ibanez persist with the chinese licensed Barts, they're terrible things IMO.  So dark and lacking any real excitement in the mid or highs, it's no wonder Bartolini gets a bad name when these licensed jobbies are in so many budget instruments (US Barts are a completely different kettle of fish).  I'd much rather they put Nordies or any other decent pickup in and dropped the preamp to save costs etc.

Frustratingly, I love the roasted maple neck on some of these, but every one with a neck like that on is equipped with those Barts.  And they're an awkward size to replace too (6 string bass pickup shape, so only bar magnet 6 models will fit).

I had a  Cort SCMS which I dropped US-made Bart pickups and preamp into: the improvement was like night and day, so I agree 100% with this.

  6. This thread depresses the hell out of me.  I'm glad we have it, but I hate to see people who I consider to be friends (even though I have never met a lot of them) pass away :(

Thanks franzbassist. I may drop him another email. It's been nearly 3 weeks. it may have slipped through the cracks on a busy day.

Hopefully you are right, Hans was always very prompt in replying when I was buying my cabs.

I'd been looking at the FMC 2x8 https://fmc-audio.jimdo.com/produkte/8-boxen/2-x-8-boxen/

    and the RevSound RS28V   https://www.revsound.net/collections/bass-cabinets/products/rs28v

I'm drawn to the RevSound but the FMC looks interesting. It would be mainly for double bass, though not exclusively. has anyone had any experience of either or both?

I've been in touch with both of them but still haven't heard back from FMC about delivery, VAT and that that shall be unnamed (that makes the last question necessary).

I bought mine after we left the EU.  I don't recall shipping being extortionate (the cabs are crazy light), and I assume normal import costs apply.

I use Ernie Ball Slinkys, Gareth. I find them really quiet, especially after a couple of hours of play.

Thanks Nick.  Hope you are keeping well.

DR Pure Blues are very consistent in quality, tone and feel. I use them on a couple basses and they are strung through the body. No issues there. They last quite a long time.

    Thanks MP.

I would say the Thomastik Jazz rounds are the perfect roundwound strings for fretless- very supple and smooth, but plenty of growl and bite. However, just checked, and they're 36" total length ( and £94 for a 5 string set!!!).

So reading the above is a complete waste of your time...

    ... sorry about that.

No worries, I appreciate the input :)

  11. Thanks, all, for the replies.  BC is such a fab font of knowledge.

I think my challenge will be finding strings that are consistently the right length.  I love LaBellas and have used white nylon flats on this bass for years, but their QC is awful as I've had lots of strings shorter than the 38" they specify as extra long.  Fender don't appear to do extra long 7150s, but if DR's QC is reliable then their standard long scale could work at 38", same for Elixir's extra long scale (also 38").

  12. After many years of using flats I'm thinking of going back to rounds on my fretless, but I don't want to lose that wonderful glide you get with flats so I am wondering what is out there that has a) minimal finger squeak b) a smooth, slinky feel.  Oh I've tried groundwounds and don't like them - too grippy.

As my bass is strung through body they will need to be at least 38" from ball end to taper, oh and I need a 5 string set.

My first thought is Ernie Ball Slinky?  I fancied DR Sunbeams and GHS Pressurewounds too, but they aren't long enough.

    Suggestions most welcome!

  13. Boss MS3 here.  I love it.  Once you get your head around the interface it's easy to use.  I have a bank of song-specific settings (e.g. "hooky", "bohemian", "boulevard") and then a couple of banks of single effect settings (i.e. chorus, overdrive, octaver etc.).
