Yeah I've enquired about the Tony Franklin because it's beautiful. Keeping my eyes on the marketplace in general while I look, you never know when something cool will show up.

I saw one of those ibanez basses in a shop and it does have dark lines. I quite liked the look of the fingerboard though, less a fan of the rest of the bass lol

Cheers for the suggestions everyone! I've definitely thought of putting one together before but to be honest I can't be bothered and I'd rather buy something nice straight off. The eastwood design kind of appeals to me but it doesn't look as if they're easy to find. Is the revelation stuff really decent? Might be an option if it's good for the money. I've seen some of their guitars before and always been a bit suspicious because of the very low prices. That Tony Franklin though...

Hey, I've been thinking about getting a new fretless for a while because while I love how my vigier plays I don't totally love how it looks and active electronics aren't really my thing. Problem is it doesn't seem like there's a lot out there in terms of passive unlined fretless basses. I would just get a fender but they're all lined and I hate the look of lined fretless fingerboards. So anyone got any good tips other than endlessly watching the classifieds for something to come up? Passive, simple and classic looks, unlined fingerboard. Budget is around £1000 probably, I'd rather go lower but could do more for the right instrument potentially. Thanks!

Hi, I've got this amazing vigier excess fretless, with metal fingerboard. It plays beautifully but unfortunately I just can't quite get myself to like active pickups enough. The bass: 2 pickups controls: volume, pan between pickups, 2 band active EQ. The knobs have little clicky indents at the middle positions which is really great to know where they're set and find a neutral tone setting without looking. The neck is medium thickness, great fast finish. The metal fingerboard is phenomenal, beautiful to play on and sounds lovely. There are a few little dents and scratches etc on the body as you'd expect with a used bass but they are very hard to see due to the black paint. I tried to take photos where they'd show up but struggled. Great condition overall. Only thing noticeable without looking very closely indeed is a bit of a bubbling effect in the bridge finish, which was like this when I got it and hasn't changed since. I'm not actually sure how old this is but it's clearly been treated well, I think from what I remember I was told when I bought it that I'm just the second owner. It's been gigged a fair few times but I'm very very gentle with it. I'm based in Manchester, but I have a car and I'm willing to travel a reasonable distance to deliver. Would prefer to meet in the middle if possible in that situation. Looking for £900 but willing to negotiate a little bit on price. Like probably many others, I prefer playing pizzicato standing up but for arco I prefer to sit on a stool. I can play arco standing and I can play pizzicato seated, but it's not quite as comfortable, particularly arco standing up I find keeping the bow level quite a challenge.

Interesting video, thanks for posting. I really like Rush and I'm a huge fan of Geddy's tone and playing. I think the higher counter-melodic lines give the band a unique sound, I think a lot of bass players can get too focussed on being as low as possible! (which also sounds good in the right place of course)

Yeah! It's beautiful, normally black basses don't do it for me but with the gold hardware and fingerboard...
