1. I love this guy's playing, his whole approach to the instrument. 'The Enormous Room' is my favourite solo bass piece, quite beautiful and mesmerising.
Still, i'm sure somebody will be along in a minute to tell us it's w***ery, grooveless, not 'real' bass, etc etc.

A true mod would get more upset with that comment than all the extremely rude comments that came before it. A good mod, well I haven't seen one yet :)

Jolly good. Can I get you a saucer of milk?

Been thinking about it and I probably won't email the person in charge... even though they are a friend too it wouldn't be helpful for anyone, and would be perceived as more childish than trying to fix things. I'll ask my wife to pass on what's happened as the person currently in charge is more liable to tear him a new one than pander to his mood swings

On the contrary, I think it would be very helpful. As has been said, there's a choir that wants to sing and musicians that want to play and the only thing buggering it up is this monumental knob. You know, the guy with no face and a cock shaped dent in his head. The fact that he gets his hair off when those above him make decisions goes to show that his ego is totally out of control. It really starts to sound like he has serious anger-management issues, for one thing. Getting shot of him would be the best thing they could do.
If he (and presumably his bint) were out of the picture, would you play with them again?

McGraham the answer is simple and staring you in the face.

Contact said tool.
Say you want to come back, you were wrong and so on and so forth.
Also say you have found an incredible Keyboard player, guitarist, percussionist and 3 piece brass section who would fit in and are ready to go.
Invite members of BC to fulfil those roles
Invite said tool to an audition for this band that you have arranged... in a deserted warehouse...

Fixed

4. I have a mate who is a guitar tutor but also offers basic bass tuition. However, he is one of the few gtrists i've met who *really* understands bass and how it is such a different animal to gtr. He's a v.good bassist and could easily get a bass gig.

5. The good. My Shuker 5, of course. :D it just keeps getting more and more lovely.

The bad. I expect this will get me shouted at, but... I have never played a single Stingray that has felt even remotely worth either the money or the hype.
This goes doubly so for the 5. Just... not nice at all.

The ugly. Still far and away the most horrible bass I have ever laid hands on. Terrible ergonomics too. And the sound... ye gods, I had a Columbus Jazz copy that sounded better.

I have a Thumb NT 5 that is an amazing bass- dont gig with it though as I think it`ll get dinked.

Nah, they're made to be played. There's not much point in having a nice bass otherwise. If i was worried about dings, i'd never take my Shuker out of its case.

7. I had a Roadie 1 fretless for years, bought it new in 87 and sold it on about 5ish years ago for a hell of a lot less than £900. During that time I fitted an EMG pickup (because the original died), an EMG 2 band eq and a Hollis preamp. I believe Nick the good Doctor has it now. It was a lovely instrument, the fingerboard was the hardest piece of ebony you've ever seen in your life. 20 years of roundwound steels and there was barely a mark on it.

8. I remember a few years back I went to a ceilidh where our beloved mate OldGit's band were playing. He asked me up to play his bass on a couple of tunes so he could have a blow on his sax... he took a solo himself, then turned round with a huge grin on his face and pointed at me and yelled "BASS SOLO!". And the rest of the band stopped, leaving me no alternative than to fumble around aimlessly while the rest of them giggled like schoolkids. I could have killed him. God bless 'im.

nothing embarrasing as such, but once at a gig I held aloft my bass in mighty rock pose, and was then covered in polysterene from the roof tiles in the low ceiling I had just put the bass through.

I know of a bloke who, whilst adopting a similar pose, put the headstock of his Les Paul into a ceiling fan... :)

If you still want to play if you can change things you could try talking with mr. negative alone. If you do it in front of the band the competitive side will make things escalate. Start by telling him what you enjoy about playing with him and then go into the one thing that bothers you and then ask if he could change it for you. If you make it easy for him to change he may.

It seems like a real shame that you're effectively being forced to walk away from music you like and guys you've known for 20 years in some cases purely because of one bloke's idiot mouth. The rest of them sound like nice guys. Try to sort things out with Captain Attitude first, I reckon. If he gets in an arse or refuses to see reason or whatever, then take your graceful bow.
