Both on eBay for similar amounts. Not tried either so was wondering which has the better, usable sounds and gives the best value for money. Which is the better unit in your opinion and why? Thanks Mark
If you are interested I am selling a new one which I have hardly used because of lack of time. here is the link: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=89501

Well I must admit the Polytune is the dog's bits. Never mind the ability to show u all the strings at once it does a lot more in the way if tuning and here is someone's testing them both
He he I still remember the excitement of when mine arrived. I love my Lollar.
On what bass have you got yours, I had a standard Lollar on my Precision but I didn't find it particularly better than the original one it came with. I am talking about this Crafted in Japan 51 Reissue. But at the same time I have a SD Q/Pound fitted to my Squier 51 P which sounds amazing but, there is a definite string pull which is why after 3 phonecalls to the man and the fact that he couldn't be bother initially to make a custom order one I nagged him and even offered to send him back the other one for him to keep/resell whatever and work on my new one, eventually he agreed to make one special in his spare time but he said it was going to be a one off and might take longer. The man gave me a hundred excuses why his "handmade" pickups are all made individually by hand and each one is already a one off and blah blah, all with a twangy north american accent boring me silly... until I said well ok look make one hotter! Give yourself a challenge, how's that? Finally he said: Dooode I'll do it, mkay? Pukka I said! Result!

It bloody took for ever to get here.... 2 months! But this is a special pickup made to order with 30% more winding for more output and hotter than their regular one. I've asked those hippy guys at Lollar pickups to match the output of a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound, but without the larger magnets that cause the extra magnetic pull on the strings i.e. sort of deadening the strings vibration. This is going to be fitted to my CIJ Fender 51 Reissue Precision and it's going to be quite interesting to hear what it'll sound like. I'll keep you posted. pics? oh yes... here u go.

good bass playing. I never comment negatively over a style of music which I am not into, I just accept it as someone else's joy even though it might not be necessarily mine. Each to his own, horses for courses and all that kinda thing. But hey nice to tap on a stingray, very percussive and middley, that bit I "dug" -

I played a gig tonight at a private party for a friend's 18 year old daughter's birthday, in a big mansion house in London's West Kensington. Plenty of Henry's and Henrietta's and old women full of botox. I took with me my trusty amps but I have been using the Mark Bass CMD102P with a 15in G&K extention cab while the Trace was left in the backroom as a plan b in case the MB went pop. There was a hiired PA console, drums, 2 guitarist, myself on bass, one of the guitarist is the main singer, and our drummer also sings half the songs. Basswise I was torn between taking my Ernie Ball 25th or the Bongo, but in the end I decided to take my Classic Vibe Fiesta Red Squier Precision bass with the moo Jazz as a backup. This precision bass is one of my latest purchase and it had never been out on a gig yet so I thought what the heck! As soon as I've bought the Squier I've fitted a Seymour Duncan pickup, what they call the the vintage-correct model SPB-1 http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/bass...pb1_vintage_fo/ and my God that bass was on fire tonight! The sweetest tone and a superb definition, at no point I felt like I was playing a rather inexpensive bass and all my mates thought it really sounded ace. I am very pleased with my choice and I am now more and more convinced that the CV Precision is a very respectable instrument, not to be underestimated, truly a new classic. We played the 2nd part of the gig after the birthday cake was cut and the candles were blown, when the lights went out I quickly replaced the Precision in the case and took out the cow spotted Squier Jazz that none of the guest had yet seen as it was in the case as a spare, tuned it in the dark and when the lights came back on we played Californication, and I was centre stage with the guitarist and everyone's jaw was dropped when they saw it, so much that they all started to applaude and cheer, I was chuuffed! Hehe that Jazz bass is a real shocker to the unsuspcting! What can I say these basses rock!!

INCREDIBLE.... I was able to buy this last night for £69.00 (see purchases and you'll see user captnmoto which is me £69) but now they've put the price back up to £75!! sorry peeps, I should have kept that quiet. I reckon Sounds Great got a bollocking from the distributors or something but even the piece of text that said low price one week only is gone. Oh well... least I got a bargain ---- p.s.: I've phoned them up and argue that what was said in his original advert was low price for one week only and that they only put the advert up 2 days ago and complained that they didn't honour their promise to keep it low for one week (IN STOCK NOW Brand New -Low price one week only) but this bloke called Neil told me in full honesty that they've got their ass chewed from the TC disrtibutors and were ordered to put the prices back up said I was a lucky so and so.

Here is a post copied from the Ernie Ball forum in which Sterling Ball himself describes how the Stingray 5 came about:
This was the first bass Dudley (Gimpel) and I did. We were sort of taking over where Leo left off....but not really. We intentionally modelled it after the Silo (guitar) because that was our work. We wanted to sort of make a statement and not just slap an extra string on the stingray and move on. This was a ground up instrument and we have taken heat from people all the time over our choice. It has not stopped it from being the number one selling USA 5 string......We gave the people what they wanted in the sub 5 and the new classic series but actually the SR5 continues to sell very well and is an established classic of its own... It worked out
It really depends on a numer of factors, first of all what are buying online, brand new or second hand? With brand new from a reputable dealer, you should have the certainty of after sale support in case of a dodgy bass out of the box, with second hand the risk is higher as most of these are on sale or return and don't belong to the store, they wouldn't know the history of it. The other thing is, even if you buy brand new and the bass comes out of the box set up by a Maplin sales assistant with a degree in acne, spots and porn magazines, you can always have them set up to your requirements. If you are not confident on setting up your own basses it might be an issue to you. But the reason why you decided to buy online it's obviosuly because of the more competitive price and the fact that you get it delivered to your door. That savings should compensate any set up fee. If you buy in UK you can at least be sure that you are entitled to your money back if you are not satisified. Of course this is true only if you buy from a reputable store with secure online merchant protection and for god sake always buy with your credit card because you must remember these 2 legal loop holes: 1) a debit card does not cover you for dodgy sales only a credit card do and remember a credit card will not cover you for amounts below £100 so if you spend £99 on a dog, that'll stay your dog. Good luck

We currently believe the basses should be available to order from the end June with them arriving instores towards the end of July/Early August. Full details will be issued on the Squire website as well as details sent to you local Squire dealer. Kind Regards Bruce Coyle Fender GBI

Yep, done it too, also sent them the Harmony Central link and the pic, I've asked them to kindly confirm if this is a spoof or real. let's see if they will answer at least one of us. Keep emailing them peeps!! We'll get to the bottom of this.
-
Guys... these rumours could all be put to rest if one or ALL of us was to email Fender and ask them about, in fact... here is the email address shall we all mass email them and see who will get an answer? Come on let's do it!!!

Strangely, I've got the very same bass and I didn't find anything wrong with the tuners on it, yes they are cheapo but they do work as expected. I have only tighten the big screw on them and now they hold in tune perfectly, try to do the same see how you get on before you buy a new set.
