1.
whats the amp? andy
GK 2001RB + Sansamp RBI + ridiculously oversized tuner + GKNeo 212-II cab. The cab is also for sale!
 2. Immaculate, beautiful 2009 (bought in July - only 4 months old!!) Warwick Corvette $$ Zebrano-II Special Edition for sale. Ash body, with thick Zebrano top. In comparison to the Ash model, the sound of the Zebrano has brighter highs and and a tighter bottom. Incredibly punchy and focused sound, plus a whole load of other tones from mellow and smooth up to outright aggressive can be coaxed from this bass. I'm looking for £800. May consider a trade, but I have MAJOR Clover GAS!! Dave
 3.
Hey mate Loads of people are saying the Squier Classic Vibe's are great basses, 60's style Jazzes. Also don't rule out Japanese models if you're after a reissue, I think American Standards are great, but the American RI's are a little overpriced. Si
Bloody hell that was quick. You spend far too much time on here I don't think I can justify a US model, after having bought the G&L 5er and the Corvette $$ in the last few months!
 4. Right, I've decided I'm going to stop pretending I don't like Fenders and go get a Jazz bass. I'm thinking a Mexican deluxe or preferably a 60's reissue. Who has experience with a mexican deluxe? Are the pickups/preamps decent? Does anyone have any experience of the Mexican 60's Jazz bass? The bass in this clip sounds and looks AWESOME http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMKj_4DtlQs
 5.
Bloody hell.... It sounds AWESOME. It has all the punch and growl of a GK, but with a richer more upmarket overall quality to the tone and MUCH warmer fatter low end. The EQ is much more potent and flexible than the GK too. Both the FET and valve channels sound fantastic. It's pretty much exactly what I was hoping it was going to sound like, infact. It's also built like a Challenger tank. Weight is pretty similar too. I think Im gonna keep the GK neo cab after all. 400 watts will do me fine! I just need to get me a gig now and turn it up properly..
Oh, and no sign of any buzzing whatsoever, even at high volume sitting right infront of it. I've only tried a Warwick Corvette $$ through it, so I'm not sure if other basses might be different...
 6.
I've just received the amp at work. I'm already impressed by the build quality and general chunkiness of it. Man is this thing heavy though. I have to carry it home tonight too (about a 10 minute walk)... I'll let you know how I get on when I give it a try tonight. Dave
Bloody hell.... 8.
That's my rig at the moment.. i have experienced what wateroftyne has said, however i wouldn't say within five feet... maybe more like one foot. And if i'm going to stand that close to my amp i'm not happy anyway. Its an amazing rig, the two channels allow me have two completely different setups for any combination of basses. I've often run my double bass into the Fet channel and electric into the tube and it sounds good... not ideal for double bass obviously.... watch the weight on the head though if that's a concern?? it ways a tonne.... but the cab is light and really portable with the wheels. so it a real thumbs up for me... any specifics just mail me.
I've just received the amp at work. 9.
HI Dave. Have you sold the 2001RB?
Well if it was mine, I would! It's actually my friends head unfortunately. I was just borrowing it at the time the pic was taken. Dave
 10.
I've been gigging this cab for nearly two years and it's never given me any problems of any kind and I often get complimented on my sound. Nice and portable too without sacrificing any low end etc by being TOO small. I'd snatch it off you if i wasn't skint. BUMP for a great, affordable cab.
I'm almost tempted to keep it actually. Out of interest what head are you running through it? Dave
 11.
this is a Fender Jazz 24 fret in cherry burst, bassline pickups, ash body, rosewood board...a wonderful bass...i got the tobacco version and it is seriously good.. amazing growl..ive got some good basses and this £600 bass is up there with them.. why Fender stopped these is beyond me??...inconsistent quality is its only downfall..but when you get a good one, it seriously rocks..
Cool. So is 499+ a good price for one of these? Dave
 12.
i would say a fender fmt, i thought they had block-inlays.
Nice! I'm lusting after it. I love Jazz basses, but I don't really like retro looking basses, so this is perfect.

 14. Looks quite interesting with the 24 frets and the active circuitry...
 15. 27 year old bass player with plenty of gigging experience available for creative or function bands. I have played in radio-friendly rock covers bands (I'm in a fairly casual one of those at the moment) two hardcore metal bands, one which played plenty of shows including an extensive tour of Europe (not as glamourous as it sounds, though, trust me!) and a funk/soul/disco band, which I really enjoyed. I've been playing since I was 15. Musically, I'm influenced by funk and acid jazz/jazz players, such as Stuart Zender from Jamiroquai. If I was to single out a bass player as being the biggest influence on my sound, it would have to be Flea from the RHCP (which was kind of a natural result of the mix of funk and metal/hardrock/punk influence anyway). SO I can do full on energetic well but I can also do soft and mellow pretty well too I think. Having played in a couple of rock covers bands I'm also not adverse to doing straight rock bass as well. Ideally I'd like to do something in the vein of the Chilis or Rage against the machine. I definitely like any combination of rock/funk/hip hop crossover. I'm also up for doing prog-rock or melodic rock with a bit of an edge along the lines of Muse. Ultimately though I'm just up for a bit of a challenge and some more experience playing with new musicians. I've got my own pro equipment, including Gallien Krueger amplification and a top end Warwick Bass, so I'll be getting some great sounds live. I currently reside in Enfield, North London, but can travel. Cheers, Dave
 16.
I do.. I had a GBE750. (apologies to all who've heard this before) It was a great-sounding head but it buzzed like an angry swarm of bees if I went within 5 feet of the amp. Genz and the UK distributor bent over backwards to try and sort it, but they couldn't. They tried to tell me it was because my basses weren't shielded.. I've never had a similar problem before or since. Shame. It could have been fab. Mind you, no-one else has reported any similar problems. I think I'm just cursed...
Well, I've taken the plunge and bought the GBE750. It should arrive end of this week. I'm buying blind so fingers crossed it works out for me! I'll let you know how I get on.
 17.
Looks like a nice piece of gear! I have a 2006 Warwick Corvette $$ 4 string in Nirvana Black. Would you be interested in a swap / trade? Email me: [email protected] If interested I'll take some pics of it.
Hi Larry. Thanks for your offer, but my other bass is a 2009 Corvette $$ Zebrano special edition. As much as I love these basses, I don't think I could really justify 2!
 18. This seems like a pretty friendly helpful forum, so I thought I'd introduce myself properly. I'm Dave. I've been playing (on and off) for 12 years or so. I've just got all excited about playing bass again after about 2 years of all but giving up (not enough time due to of all things, bodybuilding!) Now I've scaled it back and bought myself a brand new Warwick corvette $$ Zebrano special edition. A fantastic bass. I'm more enthusiastic about the bass than I remember being for years. It's amazingly easy to get stuck in a rut technically and stylistically, but it seems like I've managed to break that over the course of just the last few months. I've actually started challenging myself technically (learning some Jaco and Victor etc, which I was too lazy/busy to learn before) and I'm feeling pretty stoked about the whole thing. Music wise, I listen to a wide range of music from Jeff Buckley to Hardcore metal ( I was in hardcore metal band for 8 years). Marcus Miller is probably my favourite bass player at the moment. Perhaps not the most technically impressive, but man can he write a groove. My only project at the moment is a yet to gig covers band playing the usual mix of radio friendly (and not so radio frindly) rock. Fun, but I'm also looking for something a bit more technical and creative to keep me challenged. Gear: 2009 Warwick Corvette $$ Zebrano Special edition 2000(ish) G&L ASAT in gold flake (FOR SALE) Gallien Krueger 212 neo cab As yet undecided head... Zoom multi effects pedal (fun, but hardly any of the effects are actually useable!) Sansamp RBI
 19. Does anyone have any experience of the Genz Benz GBE series heads? I'm considering getting a GBE750 for my GK212 Neo cab.
 20. For sale is my 2000 (ish) original USA made G&L ASAT in gold flake. I'm selling because I need a change and have been bitten by the Warwick bug. I may however be open to swapping for something else, 4 or preferably 5 string. She's in great nick with just a few marks to the body and headstock/neck. None of which can be seen unless inspected closely. I'm looking for £550 for it. It's a beautiful bass with an amzing variety of tones. The overiding sound on this bass I would describe as "meaty." It's a very full aggressive sounding bass. The colour is ideal if you're in a 70's disco band! (maybe not if you're in a metal band though...) You're more than welcome to arrange a try. I'm located in Enfield, North London. Dave
 21.
I've had a couple of GK heads - 700RB II & 800RB. Last Christmas I decided to selll the 700RB & buy a Shuttle 6.0 as it was light, small & had a tube in the pre-amp. It took a long time to get a good sound out of it and I did give it 8 months but in the end I missed the growly GK sound so I sold it - an bought a Trace Elliot V-type combo. My reasoning being that I liked having a valve pre-amp, the Trace Elliot sound & I feel that I belong to the bigger is better era where guys would have big stacks of 2 4x10"s or any combination that involves having to stand up on your toes to reach the controls. Not saying that its right but its right for me. Back to the question - it sounds like you like the GK2001 but it could be the cabs you were using that lacked the warmth & low end. They are capable of producing bowel stirring low end. You are highly unlikely to get a sound anywhere near the GK sound with the Shuttle cos I tried for 8 months and it wasn't there. The Shuttle will produce an overdriven tone if you fire the gain up far enough but it totally lked any grunt for me. also - the shuttle weighs about the same as a packet of cigarettes, the GK weighs the same as a small house. Unless you really need the power, the ability to drive 4 cabs or the built in distortion you'd be better off getting either a 700 or 1001 as they are a lot lighter in comparison.
What cab(s) were you running the shuttle through?
 22. Thanks guys. There's still something about the GK head I'm not quite happy with. It sounds very clear and aggressive, but sounds slightly compressed in the lower registers. I dont think it's the cab as the Markbass heads sounded very fat and warm through it. As for the biamping facility, I tried the GK head in non-biamp mode and while I didnt have as much control, I was basically able to get the same sound. I think I might go for a Genz Benz GB750 through the cab (which will be putting out 400watts at 8 ohms - plenty for the kind of gigs we do) I thought I'd attach a pic of the GK rig. Looks pretty impressive. I'm sure that the head unit is actualy heavier than the cab!
 23. Hello! I thought I'd make my first post on the forum an amp related dilemma plus a bit of amp comparison: I've just tried a GK2001RB/Markbass LM3/Markbass SD800/Markbass LM800 through a GK Neo 212 cab using my Warwick Corvette $$ Zebrano Here are my thoughts: The LM3 sounded extremely rich and detailed, with a very strong mid presence. The warwicks punchy mid heavy tone really stood out in this. Very musical sounding, but wasn't really the sound I was looking for. I think I'm after a more hi-fi tone. The SD800 sounded similar to the LM3, but had a more "clinical" sound to it. Perhaps slightly more hi-fi than the LM3. Not what I'm after either. A very powerful, fat sound, but perhaps a little too clinical. The LM800 sounded pretty much the same as the SD800, only with less mid control. The GK2001RB was more the sound I'm after. Combined with the extremely bright, aggressive sound of the Corvette it sounded great. I managed to get a very very Flea-esque tone from it (not surprisingly with the Corvettes MM humbuckers) but it perhaps lacked a little warmth and low end. So...I was wondering if anyone would recommend I go up a slight price notch and get a Genz Benz? I've read alot of great things about them and it seems that they might have the GK punch with a little more low end warmth(not to mention some great features, tube pre-amp etc etc). I was thinking either a GBE750 or Shuttle 600 (though I'm not too fussed about portability) with the Genz Neo 212. Anyone got any opinions on them? I havent managed to try them. One slight issue...I've already bought the GK speaker! I can return it within 7 days though.
