Nope. If I had the readies, it would be in my house NOW! :) Having done the sound for his Band on a few occasions, I can testify to the condition and quality of this rig. (Half the time, I didn't even have to put him in the mix-the standalone volume fills most places by itself)

  2.
Im pretty sure my SMX400 had lots of steam left after 3-4 on the output volume control.
I depped with a Rock Band a couple of weeks ago, and after setting my old Trace (AH350X) to it's normal "4" was asked to turn it up during the soundcheck, because it wan't quite cutting through. (No P.A. support) I flipped it up to "7" and the Vocalist bent double, clapped his hands to his ears, and said (quote) "Jesus F*ckin'Christ, I nearly sh*t myself, Turn it back down, man!" For the rest of the Gig, I settled on "5" and everyone was happy, so on personal experience, it doesn't run out of steam after "4". :)

(Edit to say that I'm using a 1x15" cab and a 2x12" cab with it.)

  3. Classically-Trained Pianist, with a full Career mapped out for me, then I overheard a conversation between my Dad and a couple of his Bandmates. Bassists were rarer than rocking-horse poo in our area, and they needed one for a load of Old-Time Dances that were coming up. My Dad was a Drummer, and at that time had three spare kits, (accumulated over many years) and I knew of a lad at School who had a Bass and Amp, who wanted to become a Drummer, but had no finances to further his ambitions. Quick negotiations followed, and I was soon the owner of a Hofner Professional Bass, Fenton-Weill Combo and small vocal P.A., whilst lad at school got himself a fairly battered Carlton Drumkit. I was shown the notes on the neck by an old, retired Double Bass player my Dad knew, and a fortnight later I was on stage. By the time I left School, I had discovered 'The Devil's Music', bought a Fender Precision and a Marshall Stack, and never went back to the Piano. :)

This is one reason for viewing the item late at night, while bored sh*tless. To pass the time, you read the explanatory text, instead of just looking at the pretty pictures. :)

  5.
I have noticed a disturbing tendoncy ( gettit?) for some basses to have a bit of wood taped in betwen the pickups effectively filling the gap completely - it has a name but it completely escapes me at the moment (too much hash when i was younger :) but lets not go there again!)

    Is it called a ramp?

what's the deal with that. then?

    BB
Apparently, it's a bit like playing on the neck with your fingers. They bounce off the wood, which stops you "digging in" too hard, and allows you to play faster/without "clacky" noises from stretching your strings too far/and so on...........

  6. This is a fairly regular occurence since the Disability Discrimination Act came in. Any unwarranted feedback problems, go STRAIGHT to the Manager of the Venue, and ask if they have the loop system fitted. The Law says it MUST be turned off whenever Live Music is being played, as amplified, it can do damage to even Deaf peoples ears. My Son is Deaf, and as my Chief Roadie  attends every Gig I play, and even he says "With most Live Music being at a volume where I can actually feel/hear/sense it, what the f*ck do I need hearing aids for?" :)

  7. If at first you don't succeed - give up. Seriously though, some people never get the 'feel' for it, myself included. I think the whole problem, in my case, was the fact that I never liked the sound it made anyway, so I didn't persevere with it. Whenever I see someone in a local Pub Band make the 'hitch-hiker fist' I gravitate straight to the bar.
Are there no Basschatters in your immediate area that you can P.M. for a few pointers? (with the offer of free coffee and chocolate biscuits) :D
Good luck in your quest. :)

  8.
I have a CMI Rickenfaker and was wondring if anyone know what it might be worth ?

Also im thinking of putting some new pups in it but am not really to sure whats best
They're terrible copies, so I wouldn't bother thinking about pick ups. Just send it to me, and I'll give you £50 for your trouble. :)

  9.
Got a couple of questions. Firstly, I have read good things about Vester quitars, has anyone played one of these? Second, is paint removal from a Bubinga body really a sensible option?
I've had mine (Thumb Copy) for the last 9 years as a stand-by Bass at every Gig, and I practise on it regularly at home. The Bass itself is well made, brass nut, bubinga body. gives good sustain, nice profile on the neck, nice fingerboard, pretty light to sling round your neck. The only thing that lets it down (IMO) is the active pick-ups, which are VERY active, and pick up all the clicks, thumps and everything else that happen in their vicinity. I once had a Sound Engineer (good friend of mine) running ragged, trying to find out what the constant clicking noise was, coming out of his P.A. speakers. I was holding my watch near the pick-ups, and it was transmitting through everything. With him being a good friend, he didn't pummel me senseless when I told him. :)
If I was using it as my main Bass, I'd change the pick-ups, but the rest is fine.

  10.
This be that single ply no?
Took one off mine too!
It certainly was. :) I had enough bits lying around to build him his first Bass, but the scratchplate was just the finishing touch it needed. I had an old practise amp doing nothing as well, so he's got the full set-up. Anybody who WANTS to be a Bassist, I'm there! :D He's already had his first "rehearsal" with his School mates, who've gotten together and formed their first Band.

  11. I was removing a broken toilet whilst renovating the Bathroom, so ever mindful, I wore the biggest, thickest safety gloves I could find in the shops. I was being dreadfully careful, but it still took only one slip......................

Six weeks after the Tendon and Nerve repair Op. :)

  12.
AAAAAAHHHHHHH! :)

    Ta. I'm such a dips**t.
No you're not. You just happened to be the first to "stick you head above the parapet." I didn't have a flipping clue what it meant either.
