Oh God, yes. From about three months to about three years is about the orgasmic time on my P. Having said that, I compared a recording done four years ago with a recording done last week, and they still sound the same. Thats just over four years for this set of strings. I haven't been gigging every weekend, but still...........

I just wish my kids were younger, or my Grandkids were older, then I'd have a valid excuse for playing with these.

I tried one at a gig a year or so ago. The Bass Player in the other Band on the bill was using one. Not a bad neck, (bit too chunky for my taste) decent action, but he said the electronics had no 'meat' to them when he bought it, so he'd upgraded the pickups. (Sounded nice on-stage) He was happy though , because he'd bought his cheaply as well.

Nope, not an Urban Myth. Quoting Official N.H.S. statistics - An average of Nine people die every year in the U.K. from testing a PP3 with their tongue. Apparently, it's a fool-proof way of finding out if you were born with a weak heart. Thank goodness I wasn't. I'd been doing this for years before I read the article.

Join Band. Make money and get good. Study later when Band splits up, (They nearly all do, eventually) and get good in other directions.

I'm actually the best Bass Player on here. My technique is absolutely wonderful, people come from miles around to watch me play, whatever Band I'm in, and I have Bass Players lined up at my front door asking for lessons. I've been on the road with some real "Name" Bands in the past, replacing Household Names as their Bassist, and I've blown most Bass Players off the stage. I am in constant demand for Session Work, and can demand any payment I like, because there is no-one better around.





































At least, that's what I'd like to be able to write. Just happy to be in a Band and enjoying myself.

They fed-back constantly, the tone was rather wooly, the electrics (at the time) were complete pants, and nobody seemed to like the "look" of them. They weren't very highly regarded at all as a "respectable" Bass to be seen using. Apart from that, they were great.

I got a little bored with "So I'm playing with my Church Band" or "Playing with my Worship Group last Sunday"every second or third post. It seems as though there are only a minority who post on there actually play in the Real World. I too am amazed at the amount of power you "must have" to play in a bedroom or a Rehearsal Room/Garage. I'll keep my battered old Trace rig, and easily fill most Venues I play with its measly 350 watts, without P.A. support, thanks very much. I'll also stay here, where there is a certain amount of sanity about how much you need to spend to sound good. It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to post there.

£10 for a new extension-Staying alive and keeping on playing Bass-priceless!

You won't 'get' this either, then. I made this monstrosity because I could, because I can't afford a Double Bass, and to make the punters talk about my Band. It worked. I'd rather throw this in the back of the Van than some of the expensive so-called 'respected' Double-Basses and 'Name' EUB's currently in vogue. At least mine isn't labouring under delusions of grandeur like the original subject of this thread.

I think any paper that the Set Lists were written on would have crumbled to dust by now. The way it worked was:- Each Band Member was given a folder with his particular sheet music in it, in the correct order, and that's what you played that night. The next night, different folder, different dots, ad infinitum. Half the time, I was that busy reading the music, I didn't even know what song it was, unless it was announced. Things that spring to mind are "The Darktown Strutters Ball", "Woodman Spare That Tree" and even "Cocktails For Two" (the Spike Jones version, that's being used on the Schweppes advert at the moment.) One of the Club Committee used to get up an do the announcements and the odd Vocal track when required. The rest of the evenings were generic Waltzes, Foxtrots, and the like. Boring, huh?

£2 a night. To put it in perspective, I had just started my Apprenticeship, and my weekly wages were £5.8s. (£5.40 to all the youngsters reading this.) Gawd, I was rich!

You'll have to check the manufacturers specs. My Passive P.A. goes to the Tops first, because that's where the crossover sends it. My Active P.A. goes to the Bins first, because that's where the crossover is on that system. On some others, it actually doesn't seem to matter.
