Completed listing, no bids @ £49 start bid? I'd guess that the seller ended it early. Perhaps he's having some sort of battle with the Ric forum folks.
Yes, he mailed me back when I asked. "Copyright Issues with E-Bay" and he's apparently got some stock in, that he's selling off at £329. :)

  2. Some of the lads on here have started using Methylated Spirits to clean their strings. If you're one of them, immerse your fingertips in (clean) meths for 5-10 minutes every day. I just balance mine in a flattish old saucer on the chair arm while I'm watching the idiot box. I tried it after an old Double-Bass player told me about it, and it actually works.

  3.
Just noticed the "see similar" icons that have appeared on all pictures on eBay. Apart from the resulting mouseover popup, which is a pain in the a***, does it strike anyone else as very unfair to sellers. If you've paid to display a picture, why should eBay use it to send your potential customers to someone else?

When I tried to to find an email link to raise this with them (not that they take any notice) a picture of a customer services type woman showed up on the page, with a "see similar" icon on it. Of course, I tried to follow that link, but it said it couldn't find any more deals on nice young ladies for me to consider. :)
It doesn't say "see similar" for me? I just get the name of the item, and nothing more.

  4.
People have things for sale i may wanna buy, but they dont come back to the site...............how anoying! he he (my rant for today)
It must be our fault. I've P.M'd three different people as well, wanting to buy stuff from them, and they've never been seen again! :)

  5. "From little acorns grow mighty oaks" :) Keep at it in the privacy of your own home, and you should be able to sort out the 'quite flat' problem over time. I started 'singing' at a very similar rehearsal, so for most of the Bands I've been in for the past few years, I've learnt all the lyrics for the songs, and a few times we've been able to fulfil Gig commitments when the Vocalist has been unavailable/ill/indisposed. I recommend lots of reverb and delay on the desk, as it covers a multitude of sins! :)

  6.
Hi there

I'm new to this bass forum and a new recent bass learner. I used to play the cello but fancied a change however not to far a change from that so decided to pick up the bass. Had a go at guitar but my fingers are to dumpy for that. I have been up to the bass gallery a couple of times and always liked the look of the basses up there. Also started to really listen to the bass in the music i listen to.

So i bought myself a cheap bass of the internet and have been learning for about 3 or 4 months now. Am trying to teach myself but would appreciate any tips from you guys. I bought an HK from germany and went the whole hog and bought a 6 string. It sounds lovely, well to me anyway but being a novice i suppose it could sound anything but lovely to any longtime bass player. I have checked out some of your basses and there are some awesome looking ones on the forum.

Hope that this is going in the right place on the forum. Haven't used a forum before :)

    Cheers
Yep-it's the right place. Welcome on board.

  7.
I'd like to ask some questions about upgrading my bass, so I'll do that in the correct area.

    Cheers,

    Webby
Don't do it! It's a never-ending cycle once you start. Look at your Bank Account-it'll never have that much money in, ever again....... :)

Aside from that, Welcome to the Forum.

  8.
I feel I've been misled here. The thread title was so positive and then........ :)
........you were forced to listen to decent music.... :)

  9.
When i first started giging i used to [s]lend [/s] BORROW amps all the time just because i didn't have my own. but i always used to contact the bassist before hand and offer them some money for letting me use it, but they would never take it lol
:)

  10.
Anyone know where I can buy Labella 'Deep Talkin' flat wounds?
Iv had a look on-line and the only ones I can find are like £50+!
Yes. :)

  11.
This thread came up in a Google search, which I did cos I've no answers to my query in the Repairs & Tech section here.

Won an ex-Andy Scott of The Sweet Washburn electro-acoustic guitar over the w/e. He also signed a dedication to me on it, which I kinda want to keep but play it too. I was told today by a woman at Plasti-Kote that their acrylic spray isn't compatible with a Polyurethane varnish on the guitar; but from the sound of this thread it is?

Any thoughts before I possibly knacker this guitar???
Yes-I'd be wary of using Plastikote after my experience last week! I'd stripped my old Squier Jazz to the bare wood, then built up coats of Plastikote paint to make it a lovely, glossy white finish. I was so pleased with the result, that I decided to use Plastikote clear lacquer to protect and enhance it. After one light coat of the lacquer, every single square millimetre of the white paint crazed, bubbled and lifted! I spent the better part of a day stripping off the gooey, glue-like goop that was left behind, and ended up going to my local Car Discount store for some rattlecans. No more problems.

  12. (a) would definitely be my choice as well. Never EVER issue an "it's them or me" ultimatum to Musicians, because you put them under pressure, look like a pr*ck, and they always get rid of the pr*ck. As for the sneaky tactics scenario, the same rule applies. If people realise what you're doing, you'll look a pr.............etc. etc. If you bow out gracefully (citing the Singer as the reason) they will probably look harder at the singer, and may even start noticing the things that annoy you. Stay friends with the guys, they may be giving you a call sooner than you think. :)

  13. Around this area, Tribute Bands get the most work, so one of the Bands I'm in is a Tribute Band. My old Dad once told me "PLAYING is where it counts, Son. If you aren't playing, you're vegetating" so if somebody asks me to play - I'm there.

    (I don't mind selling my soul. I'm rich) :)

  14.
Hmmm. That looks like the exact model cab I used to have. Heavy as a bugger but great tone.... I got rid of it because it was too heavy, but I've not been able to get the same depth of tone out of the Ashdowns... I'm in Newcastle... £100 is a great price...

Thanks for placing this dilemma in my path. Not! :)
Buy 4 dirty great castors! I did, and my back's thanked me ever since.
