Some GPs will offer you an injection that cures it, but I bottled out as I'd heard its painful.

I absolutely HATE INJECTIONS with a passion, but the pain I was getting was making it difficult to play as often as I was being asked, so when my GP offered, I accepted. I have to say that I looked away when he administered it, and all I felt was a pretty bad "Chinese Burn" type of pain spreading through the joint. After resting it for three days (as ordered) I've never looked back. 11 years later, and it still doesn't bother me. :)

  2. I've bought loads of gear (large and small, and not just Bass-orientated) from Thomann over the past six years or so, and have never had the slightest problem with them. In fact, at times, I wonder how the hell they get the stuff to me so quickly! I would use them with confidence. :)

I've been gigging with just one bass for a while now although I do now own two basses. I've never broken a string in all the years I've been playing. I wonder how many take a spare amp for back up? I remember my old Ampeg going bang at the start of a gig, luckily I had an ABM500 with me.

Two Basses, Two Amps, Two Cabs to every gig. :) Only ever needed to grab the back-up Bass when a new battery decided to instantly die in the Active Bass I was using at the time, but it meant a seven-second break rather than around a minute to change batteries. :) Spare amp stashed on the floor behind my stack (had to use it three times in nine years) and the two cabs because I like the sound I get from two cabs stacked. :)

The fingers are holding up really well so far, I worry more for my hearing than anything else.

Buy earplugs, NOW! and stop worrying. :)

  5. Found out (too late :) ) that the new tablets I had been given for my Arthritis were Ototoxic, and the accumulated effect has made me virtually deaf. :) Had to pack in playing, not because of any on-stage problems, but the fact that I got angry at not being able to hold a conversation with anyone whilst at a Gig. The 'social' aspect of it all went out of the window, which was one of the main reasons I liked playing in a Band.
On the bright side, my Daughter and Son-in-Law presented us with a brand-new Grandson, and asked us if we would look after him while they were both at Work. Talk about a new lease of life! :)

i had no idea there were so many rockers on basschat!

im not going to say who A is, i cant believe no-one's got it! I tried to choose 3 very contrasting images and i think i was almost there. Letter C is indeed Guy Pratt

I don't even know who Guy Pratt is, (and I can't be bothered to Google it :) ) so I've got NO chance of knowing who the first picture is either. :)

By the way, did you make a full recovery after the op?
    [/quote]
The second time I had it done. :) They hadn't realised just how rubbish my bones were, and hadn't allowed for a bit of extra wear after the Op. I was getting stabbing pains along the length of my wrist and first finger, and when the went back in, they had to use a bigger implant. :) Before anybody shouts about my stupidity causing the pain, I did the gig soon after the second implant. :o :o Seriously though, it was nearly five years ago, and I've been fine since. No pain, slight lack of strength problems when trying to open a jar with my left hand, but apart from that, pretty normal. :)

  8. Speaking as the one voice of stupidity in the thread, I had my thumb joint replaced on the wednesday, then did a gig on the saturday. The plaster kept it braced rather effectively all night, and I felt no pain, simply because I couldn't move it. To embrace the stupidity even more, the plaster was slightly larger than I had expected and prevented finger movement, so a couple of (VERY careful) minutes with a Dremel cleared the offending obstruction away from my palm.
(The face I'm pulling on the picture is for comic effect.) :)
Yes, the lads in the Band thought I was an idiot as well, but at least I proved it can be done. :)

  9. Our lead Guitarist came bouncing into the Gig, bubbling with enthusiasm because his wife had just told him she was pregnant. (They'd been trying for three years). :) Set all the gear up, plugged in for the sound check and the drummer said " Hurry up and grab your Guitar, Col. I want a Pint!" Cue blank look on said guitarists face, which slowly morphed into a look of sheer terror. "I've left them both in the house" :) He'd even left his spare beside the main one, both standing behind the front door. Luckily, the gig was only four miles away from his house, and he didn't get a speeding ticket either on the way there or on the return journey. :)

  10. Not eBay, but might be of interest to some. :)
