  1. My Grandson is mad on the Disney "Cars" characters, so we've been collecting them for him, and presenting them on Birthdays and so on. Recently, the Wife did her sums, and found it was cheaper in some cases to order them NEW from America (including postage) than it was to buy them second-hand on evilbay! The Postage costs on some of the stuff in the UK has gone ballistic, and I can imagine it jumping even more when the Post Office is 'fully' Privatised.

  2. A friend of mine installs these (and other Musical stuff) for a living, and he constantly rails about them, but not in the way you'd expect. They come from the factory with a 'default' setting, and are SUPPOSED to be calibrated for each individual venue. This is where it all falls apart, because the owner of said establishments have to pay extra for the calibration service, and it's a case of "It's working-I'm not paying extra" in most cases.
All this probably means the meter's you are coming across have been set to "Folk Duo" settings, so naturally are going to be no use to a 'real Music' venue. :(

I've toyed with getting the Vox one and may well get one if they're pretty good, do they have an aux in like the flanger one in the OP?

Yes, I use it for playing along to stuff on my laptop when everyone's gone to bed. I've heard some negative comments like Bluejays, but I can only say I wasn't expecting massively hi-fi quality sound, so I wasn't disappointed. I mean - it's a battery-powered 'doofer' that allows you to practise at zero volume, it's cheap, takes up no room on my coffee table, and is there for whenever I get the urge to play my Bass, so it does it's job perfectly for me. I might have been one of the lucky ones, but it sounds like "my Bass" if you know what I mean? B)

Stick it on here, WITHOUT any photo's, referring to it as a copy of a "certain Bass" and send photo's by e-mail to any interested parties. Don't use the 'R' word. EVER. Failing that, stick it in your local Music Shop on a sale or return basis.

  5. A Loooong Time ago.....I gave my eldest lad a little clapped-out Grundig record player when he was 4, along with some 'bargain bin' LP's I had picked up. The idea was, if he learned to treat stuff carefully at an early age, it might continue as he got older. It seemed to work, as he spent most nights sitting in his bedroom, playing the LP's over and over again, carefully removing the needle from the record, putting the next one on, ad infinitum. One night, while I was sitting with a room full of friends and family, it all went quiet, and after about ten minutes, he shouted "Daaaaaaaddyyyyyyyyy! Can I borrow one of your Status Quo records?" Proud of my son getting a taste for decent music, and smiling at the assembled throng, I shouted back "Why, son?"
His reply "Cos I'm f*cking pissed off with Wally Whyton!" :o
