Nice work. I'm sure I read somewhere that that particular bass line was created using two linked together Roland SH101 synthesisers?
I also remember Jools Holland, following a performance by Paul Young live on The Tube, announcing that 'Pino's new band Go West will appear on next weeks show' no doubt much to the amusement of Messrs Cox and Drummie....😖

This allows us to achieve a clean, solid and authoritative low end without potential flubbyness.
One of the best adjectives I've seen on BC 🤣

Always admired AC's work, superb.
For me, I think what sets him apart is the speed at which he shifts progress along, it's amazing how he cracks on with several projects on the go.
One day I'd love to have him build a bass for me, it must be a great feeling anticipating the new arrival after choosing materials and spec etc.
Good on the OP for treating himself

Nice work!

Sorry to add this after your hard work, but for info, 36 years ago I defretted a neck and used a darkish woodfiller rather than wooden inserts.
Finished the rosewood board with a darker stain and waxed after fine sanding. I was never bothered about changing neck profile etc as the neck was perfectly playable whilst fretted.
It's never let me down since. Audiences may disagree mind, as my band mates always referred to it as my Tuneless bass.... 😖

I had one of those chemistry sets. It had scalpels in it. I wanted to dissect a frog. It seemed a cool thing to do at the time. I was about 11 or so. I caught and smothered an unfortunate
volunteervictim with a rag soaked in methylated spirit. I held it across the poor bugger's muzzle until it stopped squirming, seemingly dead. I had all of its intestines laid out when I got called in from the shed for my tea.I didn't go out to the shed until the next morning and the frog was gone! there was a faint trail as if a slug had been across the table and on the floor leading to the unfortunate creature, now dead and with its guts trailing behind. I felt awful about it even now.
Let's not forget how Bostik was a household name too.
I spent many happy hours playing with it. I LOVED the smell of it. It's possible I have brain damage just from playing with it, Blue Peter fashion.
Pardon me for rambling.
Great frog story! 😂🤣
Bostick was a pain, all that string coming off the tube, kids these days are missing out sitting in front of screens instead of blowing up kitchens and chopping up frogs IMO
Anyhow, back to the Camphor Burl, did it get filled? 🤭

I used a resin kit in my youth. It was sold by hobby shops as a means of making decorative objects such as those paperweights that have the components of a watch embedded or an interesting insect. The hardener is nasty stuff. I only played with that for a while as the fumes and the loss of chemically hardened skin from my unprotected fingers put me off. I was only twelve and H&S was not really a thing those days.
Ahhhh, the good old days pre H&S
For those not of a certain age ( I'm guessing you and I are similar SpondonBassed ) I think he may be referring to this 70's toy...

Hey guys/gals,
I've just bought this camphor burl top for my new build and was just wondering if anyone here has used similar and how you went about void filling? I tried clear epoxy on a poplar burl top once and ended up with a milky looking finish to the voids. I was wondering if black epoxy or sawdust and epoxy would do a better job.
Anyone else see the angry ape in this? It stares at me every time, legs apart and arms by sides.....
Or should I see my optician? 😂

Great, just need to rob a smaller bank !, as a matter of eInthusiastic interest, how do folk pay for things through this site ?
If I can meet up it's pound notes (remember them?) if not I do a bank transfer from my account to the recipient, straightforward and quick, works for me

Bought a bass from Graham, great comms, quick transaction, speedy delivery and well wrapped guitar.
Buy/sell with confidence 😎

Just come across this and can't believe such an amazing bit of kit has not been snapped up for basically the price of it's own flight case!!!!
Amazing mixer for so little money, our band used one for two years and it was faultless during that time (thanks Cliff )
Have a bump on me for such a bargain

I was at my daughters house the other day and asked her for a newspaper. ' Blimey get with the times Dad' she said as she passed me her iPad thing.....

WTF?! I never thought I'd see the day these two influences of mine would collide/collude....
Got to say, its not pretty...

Nice job that!
Not really any drawbacks I can think of, I'm sure more knowledgeable folks will chip in, but I'd say go for it

Got a bit done, I tried a red dye on a sample piece of ash and it didn't work for me, so I've sanded and flatted (and sanded and sanded..) sanding sealer, then sanded, then four coats of clear laquer, then sanded then four coats of laquer and at the moment I'm cutting back with 4o steel wool.
To be honest, I'm feeling the satin/matt finish more than gloss finish. Going to oil the neck and fingerboard and put it together to see the overall effect. The grain is looking good I think. Shaped the headstock and added a waterslide decal for a bit of fun.
I've also picked up some generic ashtrays from ebay (china) will post some pics when its together (with and without them) and maybe get some views from you guys (er and gals)
Andy
That looks great!
We Close Our Eyes - Go West
in Theory and Technique
Posted · Edited by BassTool
''Gary asked me to pass him the album sleeve so he could use the sleeve notes to prod his memory. "OK, we've got 'We Close Our Eyes' and that's sequenced bass. Funnily enough, I met Paul King out in LA and he said to me: 'I really love 'We Close Our Eyes'. We put that track up on the monitors as a guide to listen for bass sounds when we do our tracks because we really love the bass on it.' I didn't have the heart to tell him it was two Roland SH101s - which are about £150 each - linked up together.''
