1. Bump for price drop from £1.1k to £1.0k.
2. Bump. I'll throw in some silver paint and a hammer if you want to make this look like the bass in the Warwick ad.
3. I really can't get my head around how he can play what he plays and sing at the same time.
4.
I'm interest actually, i only got this to trade. http://basschat.co.u...q-trans-orange/
Thanks - I'll pm you.
5. Pre-weekend bump. I realise this doesn't look great value compared with other Warwicks on the forum at the moment, but it is in very good condition and, more importantly, is quite green. I am open to reasonable offers/trades.
6.
Sounds like a music shop on a Saturday afternoon. You crazy.
That was great. Kind of so bad that it's good. Unfortunately, it's got really stuck in my head already. I've always admired what he does on the bass, but can't get on with the music it's set in. I don't really even feel the urge to try to learn his stuff as an exercise. I'm a bit dull and think that most of the really musically interesting stuff on electric bass was done in the 1970's. I'll get my coat.
7.
You'll find that the song "Five Currant Buns In The Baker's Shop" works quite well with the riff to the Motorhead version of "Leaving Here" ..... erm ...... erm ........... or so I'm told.
I can well imagine. Is there an unreported musical subculture here? Perhaps it is best left that way!
8. I had to give up playing in bands when my daughter (now three) arrived as I just couldn't balance it with work and home and, ultimately, it's by far the lowest of those priorities. However, I've still been able to find time to practice (you do start to get time eventually) and (I think) I've improved my technique a little as a result. The other thing I've done, which is admittedly quite sad, is to record songs with my daughter - mostly funk stuff with silly lyrics. I actually prefer this to recording 'serious' songs, because I'm less concerned about the results. It's also a nice alternative way to record them as they're growing up. Finally, I'd recommend getting your little one into Yo Gabba Gabba - their album 'Music is Awesome' is actually pretty listenable to on long journeys - it's got a brilliant song by The Roots on it. Number 2 is on its way in the next few weeks, so I'll be sharing your pain again!
9.
I wondered who bought this one. I tried it on the Promenade Music stand at the Bass Show and then went back at the end of the day to haggle with them only to discover it was already gone. I've recently bought my Thumb 5 so can only wish you good luck with the sale.
Thanks - I tried to do the same without a huge amount of success and decided to just go for it, as we needed to leave. Hope you're enjoying your Thumb bass.. Bump for updated pictures.
10. I bought this 2006 Streamer earlier this year from one of the stands at the 2012 London Bass Show. The bass has some minor display/playing wear around the higher frets. Beyond that it is in very good condition. Active electronics accessed via a push/pull volume switch, 2 band eq and a control for sweeping between the pickups. A really nice sounding bass, with a wide range of tones available. In passive mode it has a fretless/woody quality. Why sell it? Well, it's just not me really - I keep going back to a boring old four string jazz and there are other similarly boring basses that I'm more comfortable with and prefer. It feels like it's a bit of a luxury to have it lying around the house. Comes with a hard case (not Warwick), a Warwick pack and a fresh set of strings. Please PM me if you're interested for a final sale price of £900. Otherwise, likely to enter into a trade-in for a new bass shortly. Happy to post at buyer's cost or may deliver in person, depending on where you're based.
11.
PM'd
Thanks and I've replied.
12.
Interested in trade for...http://basschat.co.uk/topic/175393-ft-gibson-epiphone-thunderbird-pro-iv-betterthanawesome-lk/ ?
Thanks for this - I'm really only interested in Precisions for trades at the moment.
13. I've got one of these and paid quite a bit more for it unfortunately. Lovely bass and I expect it won't be around for very long.
14. Another bump, and will add that I'd consider trades for a Fender Precision, plus cash adjusment, as necessary.
15. I'm really surprised that he got the sounds near the end of that particular recording without using something else - to my ear, there's a part which really sounds like physical bowing. There's an interesting comment on the YouTube version saying that he 'drops out' towards the end (although I don't think he does), but that's about as much as I can find to suggest that something funny was going on in that particular recording. However, I'm certainly not a scholar of bass amps/effects, so I'll take your word for it. Many thanks for the answer, although I'm probably not going to spend $5,000 to get the rig to recreate the sound!
16. I listened to Weather Report's 8.30 for the first time in around 10 years last weekend on a long journey, and towards the end of Teen Town it sounds Jaco's using a bow - at least I've always assumed it was a bow. I've not (quickly) been able to find mention of him using a bow elsewhere. Does anyone else know if he used a bow live as a party trick or otherwise what produced the effect (it certainly sounds like a bow 'biting' against strings)?
17. I think slap/pop works particularly well with funk-based music because it was largely invented by funk players, lends itself to those rhythms and it locks in with the other sections rather than overpowering everything else. It's also difficult to play slap melodically, with a tone and volume that fits in with other types of music. Or rather, it's just simpler and more effective to use other techniques. I'm surprised double thumbing doesn't get used more widely, in technical metal for instance, as it seems a pretty versatile, fast and melodic technique to me. It is depressing how many times I've seen bassists warm up at gigs with some rapid slapping and then they can't get through a blues once the gig starts. The most impressive bass players to me are the ones who find the right techique and, more importantly, notes for the music they're playing. I realise this has been repeated ad nauseum on other threads before!
18. Bump - and won't be online for a week - so please excuse me if I don't reply to any PM's. Plus, will also throw in a set of fresh Rotosounds with this.
