  1. I have an unopened set of Dean Markley Blue Steel medium gauge strings (50-105), if anyone would like them. I go them via a subscription to Bass Guitar Magazine that was bought for me as a present and I tend to use lighter gauges.

Let me know if you'd like them and I'll put them in t'post.

  2. [s]Price now £950 (10/1/15).[/s]
    New price £850 (25/1/15).

I'm selling this bass to finance another specific one, so I'm not really interested in trades at the moment.

It's a natural 3eq Stingray, which I've owned from new for around a year and a half and is in pristine condition - home use only.

The bass comes with the original hard case and I'll throw in a new set of EB super slinky strings.

The bass is very nice to play with a matt neck. Stingray sound that you would expect

Happy to post at buyer's expense, but could deliver within a reasonable distance of Bristol

Please PM me if you have any questions.

  3. I have a 2013 '64 Jazz reissue in sunburst.

Very happy with it and this favourable view has grown over time. Good looking and versatile bass.

New prices seem to be coming down in some shops and I've seen a couple of very reasonably priced second hand versions on here of late.

I have found that it's quite easy to take chunks out of the finish easily!

  4. Having a clear out and I have two unopened sets of strings if anyone wants them. The gauges are too fat for my fingers and they won't get used.

Would prefer someone to pick them up (Bristol), if possible.

    They are:

    La Bella nickel plated roundwounds: 45, 65, 85, 105
Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Bass roundwounds: 50, 70, 85, 105

Let me know if you're interested.

    Thanks,

    Jude.

  5. Does anyone know if Fender is releasing AV 63 Precisions in new colours this year?

Thomann appear to be advertising them, e.g. in fiesta red, but I can't find any other information about new versions on the web.

Thought someone on here may be in the know or, alternatively, I could simply be being daft,

    Thanks in advance.

  6. I have a brand new Fender 3-ply tort pickguard that should fit a typical jazz if anybody wants it for free. Current retail price is around £30. I bought it a few months ago and have since got rid of the bass for which it was intended and can't see it being used for the foreseeable. Please PM me if you'd like it - would prefer not to have to post it and therefore Bristolians prepared to pick it up have first dibs.

  7. Anyone else listened to this chap? I picked up the latest album after seeing him on Jools recently and there is some lovely Jamerson influenced playing on there - but also some wonderful rhythm guitar and horn arrangements too.

I'm also a bit worried that the only recently released album that is making me shake my pants at the moment could quite happily have sat in the charts forty five years ago!

  8. Isn't there something to be said about trade show talks involving a range of bassists passing on different types of experience? I'd quite like to see Victor Wooten dissecting his technique, but there's also value in hearing the experiences of a bass player who has formed and played in a a massive band and created music that means something to a lot of people.

For what it's worth, I think Peter Hook has a more distinctive voice than many more technically proficient bassists and, in any case, what he's done over his career as part of his group is more essential than how you might evaluate him as a bassist in isolation.

If I could go back to myself as a fifteen year old and had the choice of playing in a bands as big as Joy Division/New Order or having amazing chops, in all honesty I'd always probably go for the former. Isn't that what it was all about for most of us when we started?

  9. Thanks for the replies. I don't think it was any of the suggested combinations, although Mick Karn could be a possibility.

When I searched YouTube to check, the definitive version of You've Lost That Loving Feeling by Paul Shane came up, which I'd forgotten about. So it hasn't been entirely in vain.

    Thanks again.

  10. I have a memory of seeing a female singer and a really good electric bass player, with no other musicians, on a programme like Pebble Mill when I was reasonably young - probably in the early eighties.

This resurfaced again recently and I had a thought it might be Jaco/Joni, but I can't find anything relevant listed on the appearances section of the Joni website.

I thought I'd mention on the forum because it is bugging me slightly, and if anyone else is going to remember this, it will be someone on here.

I realise this is all a bit vague, but does it ring a bell with anyone?

Can you link me up please?
Did a google and youtube search but to no avail :(

I found it via a YouTube clip on Google. Sorry I haven't uploaded it - I don't want to be held responsible for any side effects you might experience.

(I'm also a technical incompetent at adding links.)

Sounds like a music shop on a Saturday afternoon.

    You crazy.

That was great. Kind of so bad that it's good. Unfortunately, it's got really stuck in my head already.

I've always admired what he does on the bass, but can't get on with the music it's set in. I don't really even feel the urge to try to learn his stuff as an exercise. I'm a bit dull and think that most of the really musically interesting stuff on electric bass was done in the 1970's. I'll get my coat.

You'll find that the song "Five Currant Buns In The Baker's Shop" works quite well with the riff to the Motorhead version of "Leaving Here" ..... erm ...... erm ........... or so I'm told.

I can well imagine. Is there an unreported musical subculture here? Perhaps it is best left that way!
