1. I'm in the process of pimping my Affinity Precision and fancy giving it a sparkly black metallic pickguard. Trouble is i can't find anything that i'm after in the way of blank material, so i was wondering if painting the old pickguard was an option. Just thought i'd ask here first to see if anyone has already done this successfully, and if so, is there a certain procedure i need to follow, or certain products i need to use, to stop the paint flaking off.
    Cheers
    Rob

  2. Picked up one of these bad boys today in my local crack converters. They were asking £80 but i got them down to £60, with the unexpected bonus of a Ritter hardcase. Seems to be in good nick and plays really well, but i'm still going to mod the hell out of it. As it's already got the black on black colour scheme, i'm going to carry the stealth theme on a bit further with all black Gotoh hardware, a Wizard Stealth pick-up, and the usual CTS/Sprague/Switchcraft electrical upgrades.
Theplumber, how are you getting on with your project?

  3.
isn't WD40 mostly fish oil?
Apparently so, i've even heard of Barbel anglers giving their hookbaits a quick squirt of it before casting out as the fish oil attracts the Barbel.

    Serves me right I suppose.
I had received the pm before i had finished typing a response to your post. If it doesn't pan out i'll give you next shout.

  5. This is one of those kiddie sized Encores, well used and a bit battered and scratched, but seems to play ok. Will ideally need new strings and maybe a lowering of the action (i don't like messing about with that stuff), but that's why it's cheap. Any questions, just ask.

  6.
I'm planning on changing the bridge on my Fender P. I looked at the Badass, but frankly they are too expensive and quite difficult to source at the moment, so I have decided on a Gotoh bridge. I'm a little confused however! What is the difference, if any, between the 201 and the 203?
From what i can tell when i was researching the same thing, the 201 is an exact copy of the original Fender bridge, whereas the 203 is a high mass version. I went for the 203 on mine and i love it, a very high quality bridge IMHO, but i have heard some people say that the high mass version does change the tone and make it sound less like a "P". Personally, i'm not really sure what a "P" sound is, i just know i like the sound of mine.

  7. Just spotted this on the bay, looks like a Ryder body. Wonder how much it'll go for?

I was supposed to be going to the Bristol gig, but the mrs has kicked that into touch :[
Do you know if Devlin Love is back from her maternity leave, that Auroa woman's voice just doesn't do it for me.

  10.
There is no best make of strings, just the ones you're happiest with.
I'd echo this. I personally love Fender flatwounds, though i've read that of people wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, so horses for courses i guess.

  11. Finally picked up my replacement bass yesterday and............it's a belter. The string problem is non-existant on this one, they run down the fretboard equally and sit across the pick up poles perfectly. The strings themselves seem to be different to the last set, not silked, and don't feel as rough to the touch. Both the control knobs work fine, with no accidental movement of the volume when the tone is moved, and to boot it was beautifully set up straight out of the box, with perfect string height and intonation.
I guess the lesson here is, no matter how good a reputaion some products have, the odd one is always going to slip through QC. Anyhow, i'm just glad it's all sorted now.
