I'm of the opinion that the bass is a part of the music, and can't be separated from it. Geddy Lee is a fine example - while I can logically and dispassionately acknowledge that what he's doing is technically very good, there's no way I would ever describe myself as "enjoying" it. I am not ashamed of this.

    S.P.

    Exactly.

I like songs and music. I don't think I'd like Rush just because they had Paul Simonon on bass for instance. Although that would be funny.

  2. Lockdown has put this back in use. I'm keeping it :)

I bought this new in 2003 when I was helping out a band on 6 string duties. Interesting LP Junior/Telecaster hybrid. All mahogany.

I upgraded a few bits. A Seymour Duncan JB at the bridge. An uncovered tele pickup I bought in Seattle and can't for the life of me remember what brand it is but it's a good 'un. Coil tap for the JB. It's a great rock guitar with a slim, fast neck.

    Comes with the hard case.

  3. The usual Tech 21 excellence. This is a great Swiss army knife of a thing. Comes with a fancy uprated PSU that will defeat a ceiling full of fluorescent lighting.

I'm back and forth between Brentford, West London and Holbeach, South Lincs every week. Will post too.

  4. You don't see many of these. Pics can't pick up how nice the metallic turquoise finish is. Has the odd bit of gig wear but no issues. Sound great. Comes with the Eastwood hard case.

I'm back and forth between Brentford, West London and Holbeach, Lincs every week.

Not looking for trades. Too much gear.

I used it to record this.

Let's go £250. I feel the need to go as minimalist as my basslines.

Great bass but I'm cutting back to 1 Precision and a back up so it has to go.

The medium scale is fun to play coming from 34" and Just feels a bit quicker without much brain adjustment required. Nice full sound with a slight 'woody' overtone. Sits well in a band mix. The neck is great. Strung with medium scale D'Addario Pro Steels.

Good played in nick. Usual headstock chip and a single scratch on the back. Apart from that very nice.

    Comes with:

A neoprene padded strap with schaller locks. Can go from Hooky to Mark King length.

A beaten up Rockbass gig bag that fits it well.

Skull sticker courtesy of 13 yr old.

I'm back and forth between Brentford, West London and Holbeach, South Lincs every weekend. Would prefer not to post.

Not looking for trades. Too much gear already.

    1. 70'S HARD ROCK/EARLY METAL COVER BAND SEEKS BASS

First few bars of Freebird or Alright Now I'm putting the bass back in the case.

    2. BAND SEEKING BASS PLAYER

Waukesha is a dump. Off to no. 3 to find solace in what made Milwaukee famous.

    3. BASSIS NEEDED FOR ORIGINAL BAND

I'd probably give it a go but I'm sure they don't want their dad in the band. If they were 'mature' like myself I might even try playing melodically.

    4. SINGING BASSIST FOR POWER TRIO

    Singing....Doesn't really appeal either.

  7. Some tips that have helped me become the Tim Rice of Middlesex on Thames.

Find something that piques your interest. Wikipedia random/on this day. Stuff in the news. Nutters on a bus. Whatever.

Find a song you know well and like. Write new lyrics that fit that tune on the subject. Fit the syllable count so it doesn't sound forced. Leave it in a drawer/folder for ages so you forget what you originally wrote it too.

Don't be precious and edit ruthlessly. Sometimes a verse from one song will fit the chorus from another.

They don't have to be epics. My favourite of the lyrics I've written has 57 words in total.

Oohs, Aahs and repeats can be your friend and even make a song. Masterpieces like Wimoweh and Tiger Feet prove this.

They don't always have to make it. I have written 5 sets of unused lyrics to each song that has got to a structured state. Some of them are being used in my new project. Keep everything.

I had to learn on the job when a singer/lyricist left the band I was in about 10 years ago. I volunteered to have ago and now I love the words nearly as much as the music. If I can do it with very little formal education anyone can.

  8. I use TC cabs. The RS210 & RS112. They do indeed colour the sound but I really like how they do it.

They are quite old school warm and middy to my ears and handle drive really well.. Then again I never have the horns on. Probably not the best if you want clean, flat response from your cabs.

  9. I've made a conscious decision to listen to albums recently rather than the greatest hits and compilations playlists I've drifted into.

    This weeks LP's

    Ian Hunter - Ian Hunter

    Radio Birdman - Radios Appear

    Mighty Diamonds - Right Time

    Edwyn Collins - Gorgeous George

    New Order - Low Life

The Soundtrack Of Our Lives - Origin

    Paquet Courts - Wide Awake!

  10. 3 stick out. Who on earth thought it was a good idea to match a high speed noisy new wave punky stuff &...

A Crosby, Stills & Nash tribute - Disaster. Felt like uniformed cops at Woodstock.

Gloomy 80s goth guyliner multi band night - Not too bad in the end. Even the undead need a little light relief I guess.

Jazz funk fusion 11 piece - Worse than the CSN&Y debacle. A genuinely confused audience who didn't seem to like either band.
