2. This is just nonsense. No disrespect to anybody involved, but if I was looking for a bassist and was skimming through the 'available' ads, the OP's opening couple of lines would have me moving smartly on to the next ad. Don't want to dampen down this feeding frenzy (it's obviously keeping a few people entertained), but I can see merit in both arguments and to have the word 'Professional' bandied about while acting in anything like a professional manner (I'm having to duck the sheer quantity of toys flying around which have originated from the OP's pram) is a bit ironic. Just my opinion, but the OP's 'bassist available' ad is more concerned with getting back at the ex-band, than a serious attempt to advertise one's wares. Completely self-defeating exercise as I'm sure other bands would look at the ad and come to the same conclusion as I have. It's a team game, the OP didn't agree with the training methods, move on, next please. If the band were sneaky advertising for a replacement, then the OP's diatribe against that band and individual members on a public forum is just as questionable. They sound just like my cup of tea, plenty get-togethers and don't care too much about making a filthy profit. Just a pity I'm several hundred miles away.
3.
How much does it weigh all packaged up for those of us trying to price a courier?
Bass + Bag = 10lbs Carton + packing = 8lbs Dimensions = 48" x 23" x 9.5" As a rough guide (via 'Parcel2Go' website), Home Delivery Network quotes £17 for this weight and dimensions (compensation/insurance would be extra). Hope this helps.
4. I can't agree with the OP on this one. I suppose it all depends whether you enjoy 'rehearsing' or not. It beats playing on your own along with an iPod, any day. Even though the band might not be the closest of buddies, it is still great to let rip. It's what I joined a band for (playing with others) so I am happy to 'rehearse' anytime for as long as they want, especially as gigs are a bit thin on the ground at the moment. Of course it helps having a rehearsal space that does not have to be paid for, but the OP seemed to be of the opinion that because he has learned his stuff, everyone else should be as perfect as well and not 'waste' his time. Hmmm.. It's a hobby and it's a team game. A hobby that I would gladly do for nothing (even gigging) as we all have day-jobs. You don't see many golfers demanding payment from the golf club for playing on their course - so why should a pub pay us for having a ball? There are thousands of ski-ers out there with expensive kit and horrendous travel costs, but they do it because they get pleasure from it. If I was in a band but baulked at having to actually play together too often, then I would have to seriously question if I had chosen the correct hobby.
5. Thanks for the PMs so far, but just to re-iterate.... no trades please, straight sale if possible.
6. OK, I've let this languish down on page 57 (and dropping) for long enough (I just don't like all this 'bump' business - so undignified). Quick edit, new price and she's back on the market....
7.
Bloody hell, there's one on the forum now!
You mean this one? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=85829
8. And final update before I package it up... The gig-bag is no longer available (could have sworn it was safely stored away - it was a cheap thin-skinned thing anyway), so it will be loads of bubble-wrap and then placed inside a bass shipping box. Sorry to mess you about.
9. I have updated the description above to point out it has a noisy pot - not horrendously noisy, but worth mentioning.
10.
Where are you based???
Not very near to Berkshire I'm afraid. Just north of Aberdeen. Sorry...
11.
Dang, beat me to it!
Hah Ha.... It's up for sale. I'm not looking to make a killing, just re-coup some dosh. I don't think it's a majorly collectable Ibanez so see what this brings..... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=85829 Many thanks for your replies - great service.
12. Selling this 5 string Ibanez SR705WNF ('Walnut Finish') as I am giving up on this 5-string lark. In excellent condition with only minor buckle-rash (extremely un-noticable on the satin finish) and nothing else to report. Japanese (Fujigen factory) made in April 2003. It is an active bass which is probably the most un-Fender like thing I have played (I'm a Fender man so again, the tone is a bit too 80's/90's for me). If I had ever learned to slap then this would probably be the bass that would have made it sound good. **UPDATE**: Checked the bass out this morning and it has a noisy pot! Not a major, but better mention it..... Any interest at £250? Shipping would be at buyer's expense (probably around £20) and gig bag would be included. **FURTHER UPDATE** - The gig-bag is no longer available (could have sworn it was safely stored away - it was a cheap thin-skinned thing anyway), so it will be loads of bubble-wrap and then placed inside a bass shipping box. Pictures as follows:
13.
See also here: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/expans...=261&now=21
Great stuff, many thanks. That's definitely the one in the catalog. eBay is no good as they all seem to be later models on there, and the design seems to have changed over the years. I will slap it up on the for sale page and see what bites.....
14.
Yes! It is an SR705, as can be seen here. I have one and I love it. I got it off here for a steal, so I'll not comment on its value. I can tell you that it is very, very nice!
Woh, thanks for the speedy reply. That looks like the beast, and I agree, very nice, but I'm not 5-stringing anymore, so need to offload. I will look for 'SR705' on eBay and get an idea of value. Once again, many thanks.
15. I'm clearing out some kit and would appreciate it if any Ibanez experts could shed some light on this. The serial places it at the Fujigen factory in April 2003 (if I've read the serial decoder properly), but I have no idea what the model number is. Any clues?, as I can't really decide on an asking price if I don't know what model it is. Many thanks.
16.
Haha, you know my position!
Yes, and I am just saving you from yourself. You may want it, but you gave me an explicit instruction to not sell it to you (although you could test my breaking point by rattling my inbox with an offer....)
17.
HI I would be interested but not sure if you would i have sunburst precision But not fender I can email pictures of you want [email protected]
PM'd
18. Here is the body in question: Something along these lines but in a P shape would be ideal.
19. This is probably a very long shot, but maybe, just maybe, there is someone out there who has a MIJ/CIJ Fender Precison (sunburst) and loves the Precision neck, but wants to expand their tonal possibilities by having a Jazz body to go with it. I have a CIJ '62 re-issue 3-tone sunburst Jazz (spiral saddles, copper earthing strip, the works), and love it to bits. I also have a fretless P and although I hate the neck, I like how the body sits and feels. I want to keep my Jazz neck but put a P body on it, so does anyone have a MIJ/CIJ P bass (sunburst or natural - not a solid colour) which they fancy putting a Jazz body on? I play mine with the bridge pickup and tone control virtually off, so never really exploit the buzz-saw, grindy possibilities and so it is pointless really having a Jazz body. Here's the deal. For the sake of a few quid in postage, I would happilly do a straight swap. After an agreed period, if EITHER one of us decided that it wasn't for them, then the deal would be off and we would swap back (again for a few quid postage). At the very least, I will have managed to try it out and be able to decide whether to continue looking for a P body or just stick with the Jazz. Obviously in the trial period, the onus would be on both of us to maintain the bodies in the condition they were received in. If on the other hand, we BOTH agreed that we liked the new arrangement, then that would be it, thank you and goodnight. Does this make any sense? Is this workable? Is there anybody out there with a P, dreaming of a Jazz with a P neck?
20. ************* DEAL DONE - NO LONGER AVAILABLE **************** Surplus to requirements, and looking too good to leave hanging on the wall, this is a Fender Japan 'Craft Shop' '62 re-issue Jazz in a walnut matt/satin finish. According to the paperwork this is a 'JB62-73 MWN'. I have been trying to find reference to an exact (or even similar) example of this model on t'interweb, but so far have drawn a blank. There is a similar model available (JB62-WAL) but this has a 'normal' high-gloss finish. The bass here is the only example I have ever seen of a 'MWN' matt/satin finish (unless someone is hoarding a stack of them in a garage in Rotherham). With one exception, the woodwork is immaculate, un-marked, completely blemish and ding-free. There is a nick at the neck-pocket leading into a small surface crack. I have highlighted this in the photos below, and have also taken snaps under different lighting conditions as the colour of the bass seems to change between daylight, tungsten, fluorescent etc etc, but whatever the lighting it looks like it has been dipped in chocolate. This is not only one for those 'matching headstock' fanatics, but anyone who drools at 'same-all-over' finishes. It plays identically to my bog standard CIJ 62 3TS (although the satin neck is a bit of a treat compared to the normal shiny one). One thing it doesn't have is the external earth strip from bridge to pickup, and the saddles are smooth single groove jobs as opposed to the spiral saddles on my 3TS re-issue. Although it may look like it in the pictures, the trimmings aren't quite all black. The pickguard and control plate are black, but the bridge, saddles, strap buttons (including the 3rd button on the back of the headstock) and the neck screw plate are all a kind of swirly greeny kind of gunmetally sort of finish. The tuners - I can't decide...somewhere between black and swirly greeny kind of gunmetally sort of finish. Difficult to tell in different lighting conditions. Now for the eye-candy bit: The following pic highlights the crack at the side of the neck pocket, it looks as if the finish has been applied too thickly here and the tight-fitting neck has 'pushed' the excess back out again. It has been like this since I got the bass last year, and hasn't changed in that time. I think a property surveyor would use the term 'long-standing, not progressive'. I have a few more pictures which I will put in the next post (there's a limit of 10 pics on the site). So, how much.... taking into account the blemish, the current cost of CIJ basses and the increasing difficulty (and cost) of getting Fender Japan gear over here in the first place, and not forgetting that I can't find another example of this one anywhere, so how's about £550 for this rarity? The bad news news is I am north of Aberdeen, so chances for try-before-you-buy or cash-on-collection are limited. I can ship the bass in the (brand new) Fender gig-bag and original overseas packaging that it came in. It came from Japan, so should make it to Rotherham OK. Buyer to arrange and pay for a courier of their choice. More pics coming up....
21.
Second hand from, Ishibashi Japan, looks like new.
This wouldn't be the first time a 'second hand' bass seemed completely brand new. I bought a Jazz from Ishibashi and it arrived virtually factory fresh. They are not allowed to sell new ones and so calling a new one 'used' allows them to sell abroad - probably. Either that or Japanese bassists buy them new and then just don't play them - at all - before handing them back to the shop. When I have emailed them enquiring about the condition of any basses, they always seem to respond with the same answer along the lines of "few scratches, frets about 90%". When one of these actually arrived, it was immaculate - no scratches, no fretwear at all. Wierd.
22. So I have seen many examples of a 'PJ' - i.e. a Precision bass with that extra Jazz pickup near the bridge, but is it common to have a 'JP' - a Jazz bass with the neck pickup replaced with a P pick-up? I love my Jazz, it is just the business (weight, playability etc), but my fretless P has that distinctive 'burp' that just isn't there to the same extent on the Jazz. Can I get closer to that sound with a P pickup in the neck position on a Jazz? Has anyone done the mod of removing the Jazz neck PU, re-routing a bit, and then putting a P split pickup in there? Worth doing, or no appreciable difference? I don't want a new bass as the Jazz is now an 'old friend' and my most gigged bass, so I would rather mod than replace with an already 'JP' bass.
