  1. As has been mentioned, there is no 'best', just lots of excellent artisans who achieve the end result in different ways.
Other than that, you'll simply get a lot of members here putting forth brands that they themselves own, which is fine, but it's purely subjective.

Short scale Hollowbody Skyline, on left of picture. Modified by previous owner with pan pot. Best short scale I've owned - indeed, quite possible the best bass of any scale length I've had.

I'm jealous, would love a Hollowbody30, or a Decade shortscale (US built only unfortunately).

  3. Hi all,

I have an unbuilt Guma Drive kit with enclosure (https://schalltechnik04.de/en/instructions/guma-drive) that simply isn't going to get built any time soon (largely because of time and I already have a Guma-Antique that is more me).
So if you're confident enough (there's a couple of surface-mount components), I'm going to be selling it. Will list in the Effects Marketplace in a minute, but thoughts I'd heads-up here if anyone is keen. Seems to be sold out on the Schalltechnik_04 website.

Did you find that the strings reduced the output of the bass?

Not significantly, there is probably a bit due to the Nylon tape, but nothing the amp can’t handle. It’s an active bass too, so I might not have noticed it as much compared to my passive basses.

  5. Why not alternate where the rehearsals are (assuming there's a decent place near you), so the travelling is fair between everyone?
I'm also at the age where I pretty much won't 'rehearse' unless it's a writing session or there's a gig coming up. Literally no point in running songs one already knows for no particular reason, paying for the privilege, then going home. And that's for originals only, never rehearse for covers unless it's something particularly in-depth (like I did a large choir gig around Christmas last year). Even if I do a dep gig, it's for the band to supply me with keys, arrangements (preferably in audio form), or at least be confident calling the arrangements on the night.

Great news that they're bringing out a new short scale bag, but it looks like it might be a bit of a sloppy fit. Very wide at the body end and why the diagonal chop at the top left when that's where the tuners stick out? Maybe the short scale version will be a bit more slimline and a snugger fit. Like the Urban bag lol!

Presumably that's just a photo of the guitar bag? Not a photo you've managed to find of the Shortscale bag?
I would put my trust in Fender to actually fit the bag to the basses they make.....if not.....on with my project lol

This what Fender have to say about the new short scale bass gig bag ...

Thank you for getting in touch, 099-1521-106 is the part number you're after, but thats actually a future product

and hasnt been launched yet on our website, if you quote this to the retailer they will be able to place it on order

So theres a new bag on it's way, it looks like this one ...

Interesting, I've seen that range of their bags before, but not the short-scale (makes sense if it isn't launched yet).
The other bags in the range have three feature-based price points, about £25, about £65, and about £95. Which I think are actually spot on!

If you have a support ticket open, could you ask when they plan to drop them? If it's a month, great, if it's a year, I'll continue with my little project.

  8. I don't think he's saying that you still avidly listen to the same stuff you did as a kid, but that the feelings experienced and chemicals released when you do listen to that older stuff, music that moulded your childhood, is significantly different to what happens when you listen to newer music now. It's less cerebral, more linked to emotional memory etc.

And actually, the research seems to support that. That's not to say that there aren't exceptions, but I would struggle to believe that someone who loved a band or artist when they were a teenager, actively dislike that band/artist now.....even if it's a guilty pleasure in the eyes of more snobbish company.

That looks to be the standard bass bag, not the short-scale. The short-scale aspect is called out on other listings, not on this one is all.

Hi Si, did you have any luck finding a gig bag for your Mustang? I need one for my old Hofner 185 which is the same length as a Mustang and can't find anything. The Fender Urban Short Scale Gig Bag was my fall back but I just went to order one only to discover that it's been discontinued! Grrr

Not yet, the best I've found is a Reunion Blues RBX Semi-Hollow guitar bag. Perfect length, but seemingly too much space around the body as it's obviously for a larger bodied guitar. Plus it's about £120.

I'm currently investigating whether I can get a run of bags made to the dimensions we'd need.....if I do, it will likely be a kickstarter to get going.

    Hi,

Shamelessly aiming this at Sibob who I know is/was employee at Focusrite-

I bought a 2i2 ages ago and have only just decided tonight to register it and install some bundled plugins and also managed to get a license for Ableton 9 lite. I notice there is a bundle for some Softube plugins, but on the Softube site it refers back to Focusrite site but page cannot be displayed.

Is this bundle no longer available? I did have to jump through a couple of hoops to get my Ableton licence as they needed proof I owned the device so didn't know if I had to do something similar with them?

    Thanks !

    Greg

    Hi Greg,

That's a little odd, can you PM me your phone number or email address and I'll have the Tech Support team contact you and sort it out.

    Cheers

When is a decibel not a decibel? 😛

Tolerance to loud volumes, well, that’s where the subjective element comes in.

That’s why I said Loudness and not Volume :)

Of course, a decibel is a decibel, but what each of us is capable of hearing, and what we consider appropriate, is different .

  13. There’s a whole story about this bass. The guy pictured with it here sold it to a famous YouTuber (a guitarist), and it was a dead-duck, a pile of poop it seems, so there’s a vid of the guy trashing it lol:

So he had this built by someone proper (reveal at about 1:50):
