I'm wondering this because I'm going to be getting a power distributor/monitor (the Samson PB10Pro) which has 10 kettle lead (or the technical term IEC I think they're called) connections on the back of it but 3 of the units I use have standard in the wall plugs on the end of the cables so I was wondering if it's safe to put a kettle lead end on in stead of the plug and whether it would work or not? CHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERS

No you can't. I do prefer the jazz profile over the precision profile 'cos it just rests in your hand so much easier (IMO before someone hurts me). I haven't played a CV P so I couldn't comment on the frets, only proper P basses I've played are my Steve Harris sig, the Am Standard 2010, a 67 P and a a few Squier ones (but as said, none of the CV range) Thanks dude. Hopefully I can shift it soon

Ah well you see I just remembered I have a rosewood Jazz neck in my room on my un-complete checkerboard P bass (still needs finishing, cba tbh haha) so I'm going to use that. Plus it's got proper '87 Fender tuning pegs on it so that saves me having to buy new ones. I do love the P bass with Jazz neck combo though, when I can afford a custom shop Fender (i got the quote for my designed one at £2.7k) it's going to have a jazz neck with a P body. SOMEONE BUY THIS NECK!

Hi guys I've decided to sell the neck off my Squier VM 77 Jazz bass. I bought the bass only 3 months ago and I'm going to stick a P bass neck on it for the time being as I'm used to playing the P necks. The price is set at £130 and I don't want to take any less than that which is a bloody good price as it'll be coming with all the hardware fitted to it (I'll take off £10 if you don't want the tuning pegs) The neck is in perfect condition with no marks, scratches, dents or dings and I usually clean it every week to keep it looking crystal clean. As mentioned in the title, it's got a maple fretboard with white binding and pearloid block inlays. As well as that, it has the black truss hole protector fitted and the rosewood/mahogany (whatever it is) skunk stripe down the back of the neck. I will include the Squier neck plate with it if needs be as well as 4 neck screws. These necks usually sell on ebay for close to £180 then you have the postage costs on top of that so this is definitely a bargain. I have fitted a Graphtec top nut to the neck (it hasnt been glued down though so there isn't any damage to the neck) but I will be re-fitting the original nut back on the neck. Again, there is no damage to the nut as it was removed slowly and carefully by the luthier at my local guitar shop. I'll package the neck securely in thick bubble wrap with a layer of cardboard round the outside to protect it even more. Pics of the bass are in this topic: Squier VM Jazz Bass Cheers Stevie
Warwick Corvette? I remember one bloke on Talkbass telling a story about how he went to a pawn shop and was looking at a Corvette which was priced up really cheap, so he sat down to play it. When he was playing it, he realised the bass reeked of sh*t and was deeply unpleasant to be around. He pressed the store about it and it turned out the bloke who had owned it had parted with it on bad terms. Whether or not bailiffs took it or he had to begrudingly trade it in, he didn't want to let go of it so he 'soiled' the bass by sticking the top horn up his arse! With the wood being 'open pore' the vile arse miasma soaked into the wood and the shop had tried everything to get rid of the smell without success! As you can imagine, that thread was quite funny.
And this story is absolutely f***ing disgusting! I hope the guy didn't pick it up via the top horn This saddens me... -
Did you by any chance vote 'Frequently' in my poll about drug taking Si? have a strong cup of coffee and you will see that your Jazz and Precision collection is the dogs doodahs! P's, the Zon is fine ... But single-cuts, just no!
I couldn't agree more with you there! Single cuts are disgusting, Precision and Jazzes are the pitbulls plums but that Zon is quite nice. it's just missing a few pieces of metal for me (the frets in case any one gets confused) -
Hi guys I'm selling my 4u rack case as I now have a 20u rack case (f*ck yeah I love being excessive!) So yeah, this case is a 4u case with front and back rack rails, 2 perfectly working butterfly locks and if needed, I should be able to throw in enough rack bolts to attach 4 units in to the case. This case has the bit the bolts screw in to between 2 rack rails (so it's basically 3 layers of rack rails with the middle one being the one the bolts screw in to) I'm not going to say the case is in perfect condition as it's not. There's some scuffing on the bottom of the 4 feet and a couple of scratches over the case but there aren't dents, cracks or anything like that on the case. The doors/lids are both absolutely fine. One lid has the protex logo on it so as you can probably tell, it's made by protex! haha. I don't think £40 including postage is a bad price at all considering they're something like £60 new. SO COME ON, START MESSAGING ME AND BUY IT! YOU NEED THIS IN YOUR LIFE! I don't have any pictures of it at the moment but here's some of it when I had it at a gig? GET IT. NOW!

I've tried sending an earth wire from the casing of the pot as well as trying it on the 6 connector pins coming from it. The pot it's self has been wired exactly as the diagram shows. Do you think it could be a broken pot? Also, the only earth wire going to the blend pot in the diagram seems to be one of the 2 wires coming from the pre amp which is how I've wired it in as said.

Hi guys I've got a problem with my Tobias and it's new pre amp. I've got a Spector tone pump 9v pre amp running in my Tobias now and the tone is a billion times better. I've wired the bass as the diagram from Piotr Michalik told me to but for some reason, the blend pot is making this really loud buzzing noise when I touch it. If I earth the pot to the bridge earth cable, it stops the bass making any sound what so ever so what do you suggest? Please help me! This is my main gigging, recording and EVERYTHING bass so I need it to work. Cheers Stevie edit: here's the diagram I used:

Just go for the Seymour Duncan SPB-1's if you want a really vintage tone or the SPB-3 Quarter Pounders if you want a brighter more modern tone. You really can't fault the Seymour Duncan stuff

Preamps - what should i consider?
StevieD_FenderP2009 replied to electric nate's topic in Amps and Cabs
Well mine worked fine. I was running a passive Precision bass copy with seymour duncan spb-3's in to it then it went from the EQ to the power amp and out to a cabinet. I used that set up for 6 months while I didn't have an actual amp head. It was quite a good tone I got from it too. Just plugged the instrument in to the "input" of the equaliser then took a cable from the "output" of the equaliser into the input of the power amp. -

You need to be aware of the ohm ratings and the wattage to make sure you don't overload whatever you're powering or underpower whatever you're sending in to it as from what I've heard, you can "strain" the equipment and damage it. Also, if you're not really looking for something fancy, why don't you try getting a rack mount equaliser, run your bass into that then send the equaliser to the power amp. That's worked for me before on many occasions. Something like this will do the job. Just shape your EQ on that and your ready for action! That's my two pence... haha -
Yesterday I had a band practise and as my Thunderturd was the only bass I had with me (i'm not staying where all my basses and equipment are a.t.m.), I had to take it with me to use. Now, if you haven't seen before, I had started a thread about how terrible the pick ups in my new Epiphone Thunderbird White and Chrome limited edition bass are. It uses guitar pickups (obviously rejects from the Epiphone Les Paul or SG guitars) that produce no high end what so ever so I was looking for the right pick ups to replace them with and settled on the Seymour Duncan Livewire Classic II humbuckers which produce a lot of high end, barely any mids and average bottom end. So this brings me to the band practise... I got there and they supply you with back line for no added cost (which is cool) and th bass amp there is a Hartke VX2510 combo which isn't the best of amps out there but I managed to get a fairly decent sound from it with the Thunderbird but I always get a quite a good sound from it with my Squier Jazz bass and Tobias Toby Pro 4 but here's the important question... What does this combo have that my cabinets don't? -drum roll- A HIGH FREQUENCY DRIVER! It's settled, the sensible option is to stick a horn and crossover in my cabinet. I have limited money and it was either going to be crossover and horn in my cabinet or pick ups for the thunderbird. If I was to go for the pickups, it would make 1 bass sound better and leave the rest of the stuff sounding as it does. Plus it would set me back £150 where as if I got for the horn and cross over, I can get those for about £80 in all, maybe even less if I hunt eBay and the net but this would make all my basses sound better (to me anyway, it'll add the top end I've been missing out on) so it's the sensible option. I can't be bothered to build a seperate box for the horn or to get a bright box, it's just easier to fit one to the cab, then i have less to carry about and it'll always be there. Now... OFF TO SCOUR THE NET!
I think only piezo one's don't need a crossover. I think this might be more complicated than you imagine to sound right. Definitely a try and get actually suitable cabs sorta thing, Marshall badges are easy to pick up an stick on, much easier than making a crossover.
Okay, cheers for that.
I'm no expert on HF stuff, but as Mr Foxen says, that unit seems to need a crossover. There's no reference to "piezo" in the spec. By the way, it costs a lot more on Ebay than on the sellers own web-site. On the Ebay shop it's £27.93, while on the bluearan web-site it's £23.49! A high-pass crossover will probably will be an additional cost. For example, the Emnence PXB-3K5 is £21. More complications come later as you can't guarantee to match it to the existing speakers exactly how you'd like. Balcro.
Thanks for linking me to that, if I can get hold of the one that they say is "cabinet ready" then I'll have an attempt at building my own bright box or I might even make a replica of the back panel from my Marshall so I can mount the crossover in that but if it doesn't work how i want it to, i've still got the original back panel in perfect condition to put back on. How many tweeters/horns can you run off of the one cross over? The horn I want is 8ohm horn and it says to only mount 8ohm horns to it but i don't know if you can mount multiple horns to it or not.
Maybe you could consider building a bright box (a tweeter in a box) rather than cutting holes in your cab?
As said, I've got 2 options, build a bright box or to build a new back panel for my cab and mount the crossover to that. I'll make my mind up some time haha

So this is the horn I think would be perfect for my cabinet: Eminence APT-80 Would it be alright to just run it off the input on the cab or do I HAVE to put a crossover in there?
