1.
I've always used copper shielding tape / foil. It does quieten things down a little.
I did my 80s P-bass with this. One issue can be rust. The bridge of my P-bass was so rusty underneath that it wouldn't conduct properly. A good clean up all around and it made a difference. It's worth remembering (for anyone new to basses) that you get a certain amount of hum with Fender style basses anyway. My P-bass is now fine. I think the rust came from my old punk days when I used to rest my hand on the bridge. Those were some sweaty gigs and that must of been years of heavy gigging and old bad habits

  2. The web seems to credit Madam Cholet with the bass playing credit but we all know it was Tomsk that rocked the low end!

Here he is in action with an awesome tele bass. Note that wicked right hand action around the neck pickup - what a player!

And again with a different bass playing back towards the bridge this time with a pick. The strength of his playing is clearly in his diversity. Respect

  3. Got to say they come across as a really nice bunch of guys. The cover is quite good but I've heard better versions in pubs. Perhaps others will disagree but just my view. Still, it must be awesome to play it in Abbey Road. Fair play to them

  4.
dare i say................ its a gretsch 6string
I love Gretsch guitars, next to teles they are my favourite. Never understood the anti-guitar comments on this or any bass forum - My view is that I like guitar music so why be negative? :) I think we must have similar tastes

  5.
no doubt it will get slagged off by the ashdown bashers :)
I guess everything comes down to your own experience. For what it's worth everything I have tried by Ashdown has been of really good quality. I'm a big fan of these mini rig set ups and there is a lot to be said for saving your back! I had my head running through a 4x12 Ashdown cab yesterday and it sounded awesome. I've never owned any Ashdown stuff but the last couple of rehearsal studios I've used have stocked them and with good reason it would appear.

  6. I played on TV in the early to mid 90s and that was a strange but excellent experience.

I now routinely film gigs on a camcorder and it's an interesting way to iron out mistakes and improve performance. Are you using your footage for anything special?

  7. I played a Jag bass through an Ashdown 4x12 cab yesterday (but via my 1978 Bassman head though) and it was one of the best tones I've ever had. I have an Ampeg cab at home and this was just the rehearsal studio set up. A lot of tone! I'm interested in those 4x10 Ampeg cabs. Out of curiosity, what's the instrument in the background?

  8. I remember holidays as a kid where I'd select 5 or 10 cassette albums and take those away. Probably around halfway through the car journey there I'd immediately realise I'd left an album I wished I'd taken. The Ipod really is a fantastic invention. I miss studying the sleeve and knowing who the studio engineer was (even though I didn't know what that actually meant at the time) but the freedom of going out now with 8,000 tunes taking up less space then 5 audio tapes far outweighs any slight changes in listening habits.
