Being without a band again (sigh) I'm thinking to downsize my investment in gear.   I've been tinkered with the idea of flogging my Phil Jones cabs and buying a cheap Ashdown to go with my MAG300 head. But then a cheap cab will likely be heavy, an impediment if I do ever get in another band. So then I thought about flogging my 4x7" Phil Jones cab and keeping the 2x7" to go with my Markbass Nano.  Super small, super light rig... but would it be powerful enough for a small pub gig with drums and guitars? The Nano's rated at 300w, the Cab 27 at 200w. With the single 8 ohm cab the Nano will be doing around, what: 150-180w? In your experience and/or opinion will that be enough, do you think?  After all, people run the Elf through single 10" and 2x8" cabs. Yes, I know I could simply try out to see, but like I say I no longer have a band - or any mates (sniff).

Im using 2 PJB C4 lightweight with [this week] aBlackstar Unity 700 amp. Very light and portable

Reheasal with a drummer playing normally, 1 cab, plenty loud enough. Gig with 2 cabs pretty loud as long as you dont want an 8x10

  2. I have a Line 6 G10 which I use at home, its a bit flimsy and i certainly wouldnt use it on stage, but its ok for practise.

What I love about it is that if you forget to take the transmitter out it turns itself off after a few minutes, so when you pick up the bass a few hours later its still charged and you dont have a delay while you recharge it.

What I dont like is as the battery deteriorates, you cant get a spare,so you have to buy a new transmitter, nearly £100, apart from the cost its not eco friendly to have an item with a finite and relatively short life which cant be repaired,

I also have been using a stageclix wireless for some years, its tough as old boots, never let me down, and will recharge its transmitter when not in use.

Its digital, works on 5.8thingumis, apparently latency is 1.5  and never had any sign of interference. It was about £350 I think.

I changed the battery, cost me about £15

Thank, yes you have to get the ‘add on’ footswitch to get the mute button. I think it  would wind me up if I didn’t get it!

Mmm I hate clutter round my feet and the only thing it would give me is a mute switch and tuner.

I’Build quality seems great although the mini switches might be a worry for some.

Yes the mini swiches look a bit flimsy but the same type of switch is on the Mesa D800 and two PJB  amps I have had. Hopefully they should last.

To get that, they'll need something a bit more substantial than some combos and a Class D head - they need big, solid, tour-ready gear that plays on the same level as their guitar stuff. Or at least one big, traditional "halo" bass amp.

Im not sure if it is a class d head. I dont recall seing anything in the blurb. I could  easily be wrong

  6. Ive got one its great. Theres a unity combo in a rehearsal room that ive used and I was impressed with that and I needed a head so I compared it to the Fender Rumble and I much preferred the blackstar. Get some nice tones. No blasted mute switch which is a pain but otherwise ok. Sounds nice and full.

  7. Phil Jones BP 800 bought from Mark at Bass direct  in August 2020 and for obvious reasons it hasnt been used much. It is pristine, looks as if its just out of the box..

All the techincal blurb is here. https://www.pjbworld.com/cms/index.php/product-bp-800/

This is a great amp very powerfull with all the usual PJB quality.

This is one of the few class Ds that doesnt have a gig bag so I had one custom made with 50mm foam padding which cost £67 which I will include.
