Where abouts are you based? :-) cheers
Hi mate, Its definitely 35" I'll get some more pix on for you. You can always checkout: www.myspace.com/stufunkybass or www.myspace.com/thebulletthieves Cheers Stu
 3.
So you're fed up that no one appreciates you, wants you to play and doesn't want to pay you when you do? Join the club!! Keep going, don't give up, raise your game and fight back! You need to keep gigging to keep "match fit". Find out where the local "music mafia" hang out and get in with them. In my opinion a combo doesn't cut it. Good luck.
Cheers Chris! I love bass and really love shopping for kit too - so I'll be fine. Thanks again Stu
 4.
Stu - are you looking to sell the Moon & use the money to buy both a bass & a combo? The MM basses are nice but a lot of people don't like the core tone circuit & replace them with a 'Marcus Retro'. By the time you've got a nice MM & fitted a retro for £200 you wouldn't have much left to buy a combo. I've gigged with a combo plenty of times without many problems. Obviously there are massive differences between what's out there (especially with the new breed of class D heads & neo speakers). The two most recent ones I've used were a MarkBass CMD112 which was really nice & a Genz-Benz Shuttle 300 with the 1x10 speaker. The Mark had more depth to it but the GB is brilliant for what I want as it's so tiny & weighs nothing but still has a decent gigging tone. I've only gigged the GB whilst going through the PA though (in quite a large venue) & it needs to be raised as high as possible for the best use as a stage monitor. I bet it would hold its own against most amps out there for pub gigging - unless you plan on playing subsonic reggae If you want to try a really low cost option bass then a lot of people have said very good things about the Squire Classic Vibe Jazz - only £250 brand new!
Hi mate, That's the plan - sell the Moon and spend circa £500 for bass and buy a used bass combo for about £200 - £250. I've owned a SWR basic Black before and know what I'm getting. I've also played through a R100 and really like the tone too. Cheers for your thoughts Stu
 5. Hi all, I have decided to take some time out of gigging. After getting very dis-ilusioned by the lack of work and lack of money I was making from gigs. After owning some very tasty basses and a very nice portable bass rig I have streamlined my equipment down to one bass! The Bass is the Moon 5 string I have up for sale at the moment. Anyway here's the question: One Bass, one bass combo - to fit the bill for the occasional gig (not Wembley!). I love Jazzes and am thinking Marcus Miller Jazz Bass and either Ampeg R100 or SWR Basic Black. Havent got a fortune to spend so it's a new rig on a budget. I have never gigged with just a combo before so would welcome some recommendations. Cheers Guys Stu
 6.
I hate to put a dampener on things but having thought about it for a minute..... I can think of a whole load of absolutely fabulous players that I know personally or have heard around the place. They're all playing in covers bands, on cruise ships, teaching, struggling to get a break, or whatever. Being a 'hero' still seems to come down to the usual vagaries of become famous or, in this case, only semi-famous.
Couldn't agree more mate! A good friend of mine is an amazing player doing lots of good work for aspiring Bass players. Musicians in general dont get the credit they deserve sometimes. My good friend is a guy called Nixon Rosembert (bass player with The Foundations) Also people like guitarist Tony Remy (Annie Lennox and a solo artist in his own right - amazing guitarist with his own style). Appreciate the comment mate - good stuff!! Stu
 7. Hi Guys and Gals, Thought I'd share this with you. Having been influenced heavily during the 90's - A time when there seemed to be a lot of really good session players about! I wanted to know who your "Unsing Bass heroes" would be. For example it would be easy to say some like the genius that is Jaco or someone with amazing technical ability like Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller or Stanley Clarke but I am talking abouth those unsung heroes like session players who never get any notice. There is some amazingly tallented guys out there who dont get any praise Julian Crampton - Played with Incognito, Basia and more recently the lead singer of faithless Check out You Tube! there is an amzing solo on there! Randy Hope Taylor - Played with Incognito as we all know, but also played with Philip Bailey and in recent times with Jeff Beck. Shaun Ward - A very funky white man who was responsible for Simply Red's bottom end during the Stars era. Paul S Denman - Sade's bass man and Sweetback too. An amazing loop player who can also solo really nicely too - Smooth Operator solo - simple but effective. And one more for you - this guy played some very melodic lines and had awesome bass tones (from some very tasty kit!!!) Ewan Vernal - Check out "Your Swaying Arms" on Fellow Hoodlums or Orphans on their debut album - this guy knows what a great bass tone sounds like - Warwick, Ken Smith and Musicman Stingrays were among his arsenal - with his good old 80's Trace Elliot rig! Anyway - let me know who your heroes would be! PS - These guys are just some unsung heroes I am aware of the true greats! RIP Bernard! Cheers Stu
 8.
Musicman Stingray - White, 3 band EQ with maple neck and hard case. Mint condition. Price £850, plus P&P. I've got two of these and am putting this one up for sale to help fund the purchase of a new Status Series 2. I'm based near Newcastle if anyone is interested and wants to collect to save on the P&P. 9.
32"? Are you sure? Id be pretty interested in this one if it was a 35" Where are you based? I may have mis - measured as I ve been told that 32" makes it short scale, which it definitely isnt - I'll check it and come back to you. Cheers Stu
I have just checked it again I did mis measure the scale of the bass is 35" I didnt measure the neck including the 12th fret - Doh! I am in Northampton
 10.
I don't have the album but he seemed pretty sure about how he used it, that's all I'm saying. In any case, I don't think there's any dispute over whether he owned the bass or not. Its clear from the photo I posted that the grain matches and it was used on tour.
Hi mate, Didnt mean to offend - sorry if my comments were mis interpretted. Thanks for the info. Best Regards Stu
 11.
I had a chat to Randy about this bass yesterday and he said he did use it for a little while (and had the mid control fitted) but it wasn't used on the 100 Degrees album unfortunately. He said he would have used a Kiem on 100 degrees (I can't find anything on google about them so wonder whether I have the spelling right) However I did find this photo of him on your bass
Hi, I'm not sure if you have the album, but there is a photo of him on the bass recording with this it. There is also a dvd of Incognito live with him using this. It's cool that you know Randy, I met him and got his autograph at a Guitar show in the 90's he was with Julian Crampton (animal of a player!) Cheers Stu
 12.
If you measure from the nut to the 12th fret and then double it.
hi, 32" Cheers Stu
 13.
Is it heavy? Pretty bass.
Hi, It's not too bad - I've owned a Wal bass before and it's not as heavy as that. Cheers Stu
 14.
It a winner. Whats the scale length?
Hi, I'm not sure what the scale length is? How would I check mate? Cheers Stu
 15.
Great looking bass. What is the string spacing and where are you based ?
Hi, I'll have to get back to you on the spacings but - This was my first 5 string and was looking for something that would give me a 4 string "feel" The neck felt great from the word go!! I am in Northampton - but unfortunately have no amp currently!! - but feel free to come and take a look!! Stu
 16.
Lovely bass, I really like basses that have a funky vibe going on and this one has been tenderized nicely. Amazing price for a hell of a lot of bass.
Cheers Dude! Your "Ricky" looks a bit worse for wear!!! LOL Stu
 17.
It would be ironic if I went for this one given Randy has one of my old Smith basses now. Can I tempt you with a Spector Euro 6? Is this bass being played in the clip streaming from your myspace page or is it the Warwick?
Hi, The clip on myspace is indeed this bass, there are other soundbytes on my old bands website: www.myspace.com/thebulletthieves The Warwick is sadly no longer with me! Beautiful bass that one!! I am looking for a Funky Fender Jazz or similar and I'm without amp at the moment, so maybe an old SWR is on the cards too. Cheers for the comments Stu
 18. Hi all, I have decided to let my Moon bass go. It was purchased back in 2007 from the Gallery in Camden and was the bass that Randy Hope Taylor did mulitiple sessions with in the mid 90's including 100 degrees and rising! I am a massive Randy Hope Taylor fan and consider it to be a real privilege to own one of his basses! However I am not playing very much at all at the moment and am considering going back to basics and getting myself a nice Funky Jazz bass (4 string). THE BASS: - Walnut top over mahogany core. - Ebony finger board - Bartolini soap bar pick ups - 3 band active eq switchable - Active - 34" scale Sound: Back pick up is truely awesome - brilliant for Jaco type lines. Slap bass sounds are also excellent as you can dial in your eq on the bass scooping the mids and boosting bass and treble. A truely amazing bass - one I shall be sorry to see go. More photos available: www.myspace.com/stufunkybass I am looking at £700.00 for the bass. I am based in Northampton if anyone wants to come and give it a try. I am not keen on shipping out of the UK - sorry guys! Any questions drop me a line! I'd be very interested in a trade with a Marcus Miller Jazz bass 4 string. Anyone interested? Cheers Stu
 19. Hi, My bass of choice is a Moon 5 string previously owned by Randy Hope Taylor to record 100 degrees and rising (Incognito). More photos on my myspace page. www.myspace.com/stufunkybass Cheers Stu
