Congratulations to @Doctor J on his September win , that puts him on a double , he has thus supplied the following image for your inspiration. Usual rules apply. You know the drill: ✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and written/recorded this month. ❌ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ❌ Bagpipes. please no bagpipes, summer equinox truce now Expired. panpipes only if you have too. ❌ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you. A line or two offering an insight to your inspiration will be good as well , it works nicely on the voting thread. Deadline wise , we will go for midnight on 'United Nations day ' 👍, and yes, yet again, again you probably have till about 19.00 on the 25th, ( the clue given here is that 'United Nations day' is the 24th). Good Luck and Happy Composing

Well done doc , an excellent composition and very deserved of making a ‘double’ I'm looking forward to your next picture choice already 👍

Voting thread is go go go

Well , 'twould appear the nights are drawing in and we have limped through to just past the autumn equinox and that means just one thing ... its the September Composition Challenge voting thread The compositions are based on this picture , chosen by last months winner @Doctor J The entries are as follows 1 @Dad3353 I'm in a sombre mood, and it reflects in the result. A bit dark; more 'black' than 'white', I'm afraid. Despite this, no kittens were hurt in the making of this piece. 2 @Nicko Pigeons. Dirty, Dirty things. I hate them. The death of Lee Scratch Perry was in my mind when I started this, so you'll be pleased or not to discover an attempt at Dub Poetry in the comp. 3 @Leonard Smalls Pigeons? They're Funky! So here's a bit of Old Skool rap/rock to reflect this 4 Lurksalot I googled the photo and found all the fodder I needed , of course this is Alain Delon , this led to a veritable mine of information, which I mostly ignored and took liberties ! 5 @Doctor J I have no specific ill will toward pigeons, unlike some of the other lads here, though I'd never fully trust one. From the perspective of the young gentleman looking through the lens, that pigeon would seem quite large. I thought of a conversation between Ted and Dougal about some cows. 6 @Nail Soup The image bought to mind the saying that kids at school used to say if they thought someone was looking at them - "do you want a picture?". As I was falling asleep the musical idea came. I decided to do something different - and recorded real drums, including my home-made suitcase bass-drum. 7 @upside downer I struggled to get a handle on this one. I went with a pop rock tune for a busy bunch of black and white birds and a bemused bloke. I for one really enjoyed listening through those , the production is getting better and better and I reckon some of those toons are worth real money ! Anyway if you just want to listen, rank them and offer 3 ticks in the appropriate boxes, I am sure it will be reward enough. the votes will close at midnight on 30th September Good luck and enjoy the toons

I didn’t want to start sending puns flying around but I guess it will come home to roost !

Or Sue Peckins 🤦♂️

That ‘young lady’ is Alain Delon 😉 you don’t fight Delon ‘cause Delon will win 😂
-
took a while to find the time for this , and even then it probably wasn't anywhere near enough I googled the photo and found all the fodder I needed , of course this is Alain Delon , this led to a veritable mine of information, which I mostly ignored and took liberties ! Techy EZ drummer played the most accurate parts , I hacked along with an Ibby 6 string through a Waves gtr3 patch and my (phineas and Ferb inspired) Bass-inator again through a waves gtr 3 amp setting . The vocals were done late, on a bad weather night, when the neighbours were wrapped up tight with their windows shut , best way I find !

I’ll bet a Cadbury’s cream egg that a headstock takes out one of the lights before too long 😉

I was only thinking the other day in town that the Dawson’s seemed to be keeping odd hours , it was closed on the weekend but then open in the week . As they are keeping the Chester store, I guess they had some stuff to sort out. Without trying to sound clever , I do buy anything (new) music related from the store if I can.

Congratulations to @Doctor J on his splendid win last month, and as is customary, he has supplied the following image for your inspiration and delight. This picture, I think, lens itself to some interesting ideas , but stay focused .... Deadline wise , we will give a thumbs up to midnight on 'International day of sign languages ' 👍, and yes, yet again, again you probably have till about 19.00 on the 24th, ( the clue given here is that 'International day of sign languages 'is the 23rd). As the challenge is starting on national letter writing day..... Dear sir/madam Please take this as a green light to get busy for this month's challenge Yours incredibly Lurks ( I'm still probably getting these days off a U.S. site , sorry )

Most excellent , congratulations , if you drop me a PM with a picture, I’ll get a thread up for September 👍 -
Not to worry Andy , post it up and I’ll try and add it to the voting thread later today when I’m back in , it will still get a few listens but I’m not sure if I can edit the poll at this stage.

Certainly a cleaner remix and decent toon as well 👍

Ladies and gents its time to have a listen to these lovely tunes to decide on your favourite 3 Dont be shy , ask questions if you want to, but have a listen and place your 'x' in the appropriate boxes the picture was chosen by me and is in fact the toilet door of a pub/restaurant in the border town of Knighton The entries are as follows 1 Lurksalot I had a great idea about the door and what it could represent which is the initial point of the opening lyric , but as I based the rest of the tune around that I got a bit stuck , the main lyric will give you the gist of that! 2 @Leonard Smalls My "piece" (I hesitate to call it a song!!!) is an impression of who is in the mirror, and what happens when he's summoned. 3 @Nail Soup At first I thought the door was in a mirrored wall... so I based the lyrics around seeing a mirror Vs door as a metaphor similar to glass half empty or full. Also went for a more reflective feel in the music. 4 @Dad3353 There is a school of Science claiming the existence of an infinite number of Universes, in which, not only are all things possible, but all things must exist, somewhere or other. This is an illustration of this, whereby, in this Universe, The Monolith is, in fact, The Doordis, an invention of the wise Doctor Hugh, travelling through multi-dimensions in this strange craft. One might be fooled by its apparently slim profile, but, once ajar, one may see the inside, which resembles very much Windsor Great Park (yes, along with deer...). The apparition of this 'vehicle' in this humble bar is likely to provoke a reaction from the autochtones; they will throw bones in the air and emit whooping noises (just like every football night, really...). 5 @Doctor J I saw this as a doorway to the darker side of restaurant eating, where items not fit for any printed menu wait within for the more adventurous gastronaut. You takes your unlabelled grey meat and go where it takes you, with more than just the taste of regret in your mouth. 6 @Nicko This song is about those people that you meet that show you a false front - and you never know what is behind the facade. I wanted to get a grungy feel - not sure if I quite got there. 7 @upside downer All this talk of mirrors and toilet doors is a mile away from where my befuddled brain has led me. My take on the picture is that the door is a portal to a fantasy dining experience with a famous face from the afterlife. I join @Nicko in eschewing all that autotune malarkey so you'll just have to deal with my somewhat odd attempt at an Ian Dury style vocal which veers into Danny Dyer territory at some points. There we have it , great fun in these, quality inspiration from a toilet door! the voting will close midnight on 31st August good luck all
-
Last shout guys and gals , I am travelling back from holiday today, so I’ll do the vote thread this evening , Mrs Lurks wanted a few more days but I had to remind her that 14000 Basschat members were desperate to cast their votes!
-
That’s the thing isn’t it , a lovely, rounded, beautiful in tune voice will carry a tune on its own , I never judge a challenge entry on the singing , well , I couldn’t really could I 😂
-
I tell you , its bloody scary if this is what inspires you when you see a picture of your local's toilet door but when I put it like that , whatever possessed me to offer a picture of a toilet door for inspiration edited to avoid @Dad3353 's flying car
-
yep its the toilet door in @Leonard Smalls local, it totally confused me when I turned the corner and it genuinely looked like a random door in the middle of the room . I had to photograph it 😂
-
I’m with Douglas on this , I had a zoom multi which I mainly bypassed and used as a tuner , when I got the Rh750 it had everything I needed to dial the sound to suit a room , travelled light with that. I think it looks very tempting to go chasing sounds and tones but it’s a road to pecking my own head, so I don’t 😁
