1. Hey everyone, was looking at the groove library and loving that, but it got me thinking if i could get hold of samples like this that have chord changes to practice over! is anyone aware of anything like this i could buy on Cd etc??

2.
I am an old fashioned soul who believes music should have rhythm and melody. If you cant hum it, it is not a tune and if it is not a tune then it becomes a random selection of notes, sometimes played very fast and with great technical ability, but it is not music.
+1 i appreciate his skill, but its very boring to watch.(this is prob because ive seen alot of this type of playing) i find most technical showcases like ultra fast slapping and tapping, double thumbing, on You Tube tiresome and obnoxious. These techniques are to be used sparingly(IMHO). I much prefer to hear a melodic groove(some of the Gospel cats) or an ORIGINAL solo..

This is nothing personal to this guy in particular, as im sure hes got alot up his bass sleeve, but there is just to much, 'look at what i can do' on the net..(IMHO) :)

And Bass Ferret is not living in the past hes believes in the bread and butter that every bass player should base there playing around..The Music!!

Oh what would a pianist do without all there special techniques!!?? i guess they would have to go back to playing melodic structured music!!

3. Hey people, just a quick couple of questions. I am going to replace the Seymor Duncans in my Jazz, for Nordstrand split coils. Can anyone tell me if this an easy thing to do. What wiring is involved? Im quite handy with a soldering iron!!
Secondly im experimenting with different strings and im looking for a string that is little easier to bend, lighter, and not so tight on the bass. Does thy look for different gauges????
i guess im looking for a more supple string..

Thanks in advance...

4. Thanks DMZ.

Well first off the 24 frets are great, the neck really comfortable, with a satin finish. I would say one thing though, having fitted 24 frets into the physical size of a normal jazz(i think) Fender have made the body of the bass a bit shorter, in turn, that shortens the distance of the neck pick up to the start of the neck itself. I found it awkward to rest my thumb on the neck pup as it felt like my hand was too far forward( this maybe just me). I now play soley from the bridge, and use the neck pup for a fatter sound, Another small thing was when slapping there is not much room because of this distance.., but all these things ive gotten used to.

Like i said the Seymore Duncans are noisy, but arent all single coils(im not sure). But that faids away when when you here this thing. WOW.. You can get so many sounds out of this bass, from classic jazz bass to Jaco honk, and everything in between. The three band eq is so versatile, and with the mid scoop switch on its a killer slap sound. I usually play through a Behringer 150 watter, but i recently played it through an Ampeg SVT and it blew me away(got to get me a bigger amp)!!! The bridge is a chunky version of the standard jazz

There are nice touches like the string through body, the silver Fender inlayin the head stock. and the Hipshot hard wear, and the quilt top which when i got it was flawless. Ive heard good and bad about these basses, i think there is a inconsistant quality issue with them, but i guess i got lucky with mine. There is a tiny gap in the neck pocket and the stack knob was alittle wobbly but apart from that..nowt.

Like i said the only thing i would change are MAYBE, the pups. But not knowing alot about pickups im not sure, so if any one could advise, please do. Any way, happy i am. Just got to get me that Ampeg rig!!!

5. Hey people. I recently bought a Fender Jazzbass 24, tis a great bass but one thing is, the pups are NOISY!!
Can u recomend a set to replace these Seymore Duncans. Are pickup easy to swap over??

Also iknow that single coil pups can be noisy until cancelled out by selecting both pups. Are all J pups single coil/??

6. Hi people. Ive been having a bit of difficulty with my wrist on my plucky hand. Ive recently bought a Jazz bass and have my strap quite high. When im playing, my wrist feels very tense and uncomfortable. It doesnt hurt,it just feels under pressure. I try to play with a straighter wrist by lifting my elbow up, but its hard to maintain, and when im concentrating seems to fall back into this bent wrist position. I used to play a smaller bodied bass, and never had this problem and was wondering if the bigger bodied jazz, was the cause of this.??
I dont want to damage my wrist. But dont like the lower bass position..
The bass sits just below my chest by the way...

This is not me, but i spotted this guy and my wrist is very much in that position.
Any thoughts..

7. Hey people, i need a little advice. I have been used to a smallish amp size...90--150w ...Im wanting to buy a head and cab, but am a little confused as to what power i need. I will hopefully soon be playing live so need something that can cope. I have roughly 500 (but would spend a little more). I wont be playing huge venues so nothing too big. Also if i got a decent size head could i go into the PA. Please explain. Me lost when it comes to serious bass amplification!!!?? :)

Thanks girls/guys..

8. I just bought one of these and its fantastic. I can dial in so many tones on this Jazz. Ive heard some bad things about patchy quality but i guess i was lucky. all i had to do is tweek the truss rod. I have played a few Jazz basses from various makers and this is one of the most versatile.
String through body, Hipshot tuners, Seymore Duncan pups, 24 frets... Fantastic for the money(which was just under £600.00 by the way). I highly recommend this bass....although im Now Gassing for a Moon Jazz . Grass i always greener hey!!! :)

PS Outtoplayjazz is right, try before you buy...You wouldnt buy a suit without trying it on..

9. I think she has had a few problems playing at concerts of late, because she has epilepsy. People being unaware of this and taking alot of flash photography. Tis a good album that Roy Hargrove. Pino Palladino is great on it too!!

Yes her lyrical themes can be strong and out there but thats what makes her interesting IMHO.. :)

10. Yeah Bittersweat, what a song! very uplifting..As for the Lyrics on PBP, some are Political some Religous, some personal(Make me wanna holler) I dont think the album as a whole makes one statement, maybe several!...

The key to Meshells bass playing is her simplicity,IMHO. The new one is not what i had hoped for, but good in respect of a different musical direction and i think musicians should push themselves into new territory..
Your prob aware of this but check out www.freemyheart.com it has all the session albums she has played on.

I want to see her work with Prince,(which i believe she wants to do) now that would be funky!!! :)

11. I just bought a Fender Jazz 24 and i have a small 90 watt Beringer amp as well as a Peavey 115( so not amazing amps) and im amazed of the tones i can get. Everything from THAT jazz bass sound to a dub sound and everything in between! Great Seymore Duncan electronics, and sturdy Hipshot hardwear...And it looks stunning aswell.

A decent bass is your missing link not the amp, IMHO...
