I"m gonna a give a shout out to this guy.  Killer reinterpretations of well known bass parts with a little more elaboration in a gospel style but not overplaying or losing the pocket.   Gouche and Barnes should sit up and take notes because this is how it's done.

Killer playing. Im a fellow Kiwi, born in Napier 1975 vintage.  I presume you are a fellow Kiwi....

  2. No disrespect to an Affinity (I used to have one) but thats an expensive upgrade compared to the cost of the bass itself. Tuners aren't going to make the bass more playable unless it has massive neck dive. (good strap usually does help). Tuners are basic by their nature. As long as the bass stays in tune.?  I have a Gear for Music £120 P bass and the tuners rarely go out of tune..

If your going to upgrade anything on an Affinity I would spend the money on pickups. Or take it to a tech and have a conversation about what what you do and dont like about the instrument.

  3. 90's MIM Jazz with an 80's sprayed pickguard and knobs..  £300 in that condition .  Difficult to tell until you play it.  You need to play it and check it over. If the neck is all good and its set up right put some Aguilar single coils in it then you have a monster jazz bass. If hes your friend I would go £350.

  4. Of course we dont just like bass do we. My favorite musicians are not bass players. A thread for your favourite musicians who dont play bass because we are mature and appreciate music as a whole. Anything from brass, drums, piano, guitar, synth or any stringed instrument. Anything that makes noise well.... Is all good here.

This guy is just a MONSTER. Ive yet to see or witness a guitar player who has this much on the guitar. There is no doubt Norman Brown could probably play anything written down in front of him. Of course its subjective. But his feel and touch. James Ross is his bass player who is also a MONSTER...

    You've never heard Freebird before?

I first heard it maybe 45 years ago? It still amazes and moves me.

You have just had an amazing epihany, I envy you.

No never, I spent too much time listening to George Benson and Steely Dan. But The Allman Brothers blew me away once also.

  6. My sister sent me this... I didnt realise what I was about to hear. Its a wonderful record but good lord that groove at 4,40 mins... that is one of the most satisfying guitar solos (2 part) and groove sections ive ever heard that seems to go on and on, the galloping/ 16th note bass playing, the drumming is just amazing also..... just wow.
